Prompt
Biology, one of those fundamental classes you just have to take, and either you like it, or you don’t. Today, however, you have been assigned to dissect a frog. Yes, a frog. Did you manage to make it through the entire dissection

Dissecting. Now, Scyeth with never admit it, but he actually found the entire thing rather...disgusting. There were frog juices. Yeah, he had gloves and a lab coat, but that was all that was necessary for this kind of thing. Scyeth would have been much happier with a pair of goggles, or something. Full body coverage.

Poking at the dead creature, Scyeth winced as it squelched. He glanced down at his instruction sheet and sighed. He was going to have to sketch body part. So gross. The blond shivered to himself and looked up towards the door. Now would be a really, really good time for a partner, or something. They could do all the slice and dice, he could sketch. It would be perfect.

Almost like an answer to Scyeth's prayers the door to the biology room opened a figure poked their head in, blond hair sitting in a messy bun atop a face that looked flushed yet slightly curious. The hair belong to Micajah, the not at all Science student, and as he poked his head in a little further as if he were looking around the blush slowly faded from his cheeks and the teen sighed something akin to relief.

He was about to turn back out and go when it seemed for the first time he noticed Scyeth, and a smile appeared on his face.

"Oh, hey Scyeth. I didn't think anyone was here in the Science building today."

The youth stepped more inward now as he greeted his long time friend, taking care to move away from the door lest his coat be caught in it somehow and he get injured.

Scyeth blinked as the door opened; he hadn't expected his wishes to be answered that quickly. And by none other than his partner in crime, Micajah Ackhart. "Long time no see, blondie," Scyeth hummed, even though his birthday hadn't been that long ago. Clearly, one of them needed to get out more often. "Nice uniform." Ah, well. Another one of his friends in the Magic Division. At least he was here now.

Scyeth looked down at the dead frog and gave it another experimental prod. "Hey, uh, you any good at this kinda stuff?" he murmured, shifting away from the pan. Damn, the whole room reeked of formaldehyde, too. "Because I'm not. And I need to be getting really good grades." That was one of the problems having the Headmaster as one's father. He knew just about everything Scyeth did, and unlike a certain black-haired man in Scyeth's past, this one actually gave a damn about Scyeth's grades.

"It hasn't been long enough if you're still going to greet me with a nickname instead of my proper one, Sparky. And thanks, I think green's my color."

Micajah's response was in good humor, considering he popped a nickname of his own into it, and he slowly made his way over to the table and to the frog that his friend had presented. He'd never done a dissection before to save his life (generally one had to be in school to do that), but he'd seen enough videos and read enough books on them to know basically every step that would be required.

Sure, Micajah could do a dissection.

"Why not? Cutting and sewing up a body is no different then cutting and sewing up a shirt, only a shirt doesn't bleed, scream, or die if you mess up. Are you wanting me to give you a hand or something with the cutting while you write down the notes? I do think it'll go faster with two people and since I don't have anywhere to be...sure. Okay."

It was almost like he couldn't refuse a favor to the other blond no matter what was asked of him - be it trying out stupid black magic spells (unprepared) or basically doing their lab work for them.

"Do you have gloves or anything I can use? I may need a mask too, you should wear one as well, as sometimes these things can get a little...juicy."

"Looks good. Say hi to Sasha for me, ne?"

Scyeth slid over as Mica came close to investigate his specimen, more than happy to hand over the reins and let the other blond have it it. "Well, it's a frog. And it's dead. So I don't think we have to worrying about the dying part, and if this thing bleeds or screams, I say we get out of here as soon as possible." It sounded a little silly, but Scyeth wasn't putting anything past the school these days. A cursed frog really wasn't that far-fetched.

The youth grunted softly and pointed Mica to the back of the classroom; the corner housed a box of latex gloves and lab coats. The coats were so white, Scyeth kind of felt like he shouldn't be making them dirty, but whatever. They were provided. While Mica got himself ready, Scy traded his scalpel for his pen and lab book, flipping the page open and writing down the necessary items. Name, date. The usual.

"Thanks, man." Scyeth flashed Mica a toothy grin. He could count of his friend for anything, it seemed. Even if past adventures didn't work out so hot for them. Mica might even be a real friend. A best friend, even. "You ready to get dirty?"

"You're welcome, but I am going to want payback for this. You can thank me later by getting me something to eat from the mall, or that new notebook I've been wanting. My services are good and thorough, but they're not cheap."

The magic student returned to the dissecting area mall prepared to assist, his robe having been taken off and set on a chair. He'd rolled his sleeves up to get them out of the way, even pulled his hair back a little more, and as he adjusted the gloves on his hands and the lab coat around his body (sleeves rolled up too) he reached for the carving knife.

"Alright, first we'll cut the chest and abdomen open in a Y incision, so we can get the skin open easier. Do you want me to actually skin the frog too, or just stick to the basics?"

He spoke as he actually acted, Micajah's eyes suddenly serious the moment the knife touched flesh. His movements were precious, nothing wasted, but what was to be expected of a boy who spent his time cutting and sewing shirts and other things? The Y cut was made quickly and he didn't waste time in pulling back the skin and muscles enough that Scyeth could see.

"Okay, get what you need from this before I break the ribcage and start moving around organs. If there's a procedure we need to follow I'll need to know that as well, or else I'll do it my way."

Scyeth couldn't help but chuckle. "I see. Good thing I just came into a large sum of money, I suppose," he replied, slightly surprised how easy it was becoming to joke about the haunting matter. But honestly, lunch or a notebook was no problem at all.

A swallow. The blond frowned and tipped his head. "Sticking to the basics is fine." Scyeth just wanted his A and that was all. Micajah might enjoy dissecting slimy little beasties as a fun past time, but Scyeth most certainly did not. He was a soldier, but it didn't mean he enjoyed blood and guts. (Okay, maybe to an extent. Only when he was playing his video games, because unlike this frog here, those weren't real. And they didn't smell, either.)

Scyeth was just as business-like as Mica, making quick sketches as his friend exposed muscles and organs. He'd have to label them, but he could do that later when he was done with the frog and he had a text book in front of him. (Much easier than a guess and check.) "Alright. You can go on." Scyeth pushed over his notebook. "This is how I'm supposed to do it."

"I was joking, you know, about being paid. A guy can actually do things to help a friend out without any rewards you know."

Micajah's voice was calm and flat as he peered over at the notes that were slid before him, and as browsed them over several times he nodded before he cracked the ribs of the frog, opening up more for Scyeth to sketch and draw and design.

The smell wasn't bothering him at all, the work wasn't bothering him at all. Doing things by the book was the way he lived most of his life, the whole 'in theory' process, so this was a good experience. Micajah would probably never have dissected a frog in his life if he hadn't stopped by here, so in a way he was thankful towards his lazy demon companion.

"So I haven't seen you since before I was promoted...I think it was back at your birthday party? How have you been?"

Making small talk when he cut open the frog helped it go smoother, he thought.

Micjah was right. Making small talk made it much easier to ignore the squelches and other strange noises the frog was making go away. "Yeah, my party. I have been well. Hopefully I will get promoted again soon," Scyeth sighed, giving the frog a disgusted look.

"Oh! Speaking of my party, what is up with you and Canaan, hmm?" Scyeth and Cane had become good friends, bonding over things like sports and physical training class. They were very different boys, but for some reason, they had just clicked. It had seemed, from the Aussie's keen observation on his solstice party, that Mica and Cane had seemed quite fond of each other.

The blond raised his eyebrows before looking back down at the frog, now slice open. Scyeth made a quick sketch and stuck out his tongue. "Okay. Now we have to remove the intestines and stuff."

"Another promotion? You're climbing those ranks rather fast."

At the mention of Cane the blond youth nearly sliced his finger with the scalpel, his motions getting sloppy as his heart skipped a beat inside his chest.

"Nothing really. I help him with his studies like I'm doing for you, so we've gotten pretty close. He helped me out when I moved into my new dorm room too, so I guess you could say he's the muscle and I'm the brains of our friendship?"

There was no way in Hell Micajah wanted Scyeth to know that he had a boyfriend - and that Cane was it. It could be the start of something bad, something good, or nothing at all...but Micajah didn't want to risk it. Scyeth was one of his very few friends that he could turn to - and he wanted it to stay that way.

"Removing them is not a problem. Do you want me to get their contents out as well, or shall we leave that to your imagination?"

His tone was teasing now, the subject thankfully (and hopefully) moved on.

"That's the point. I'm ready to be a soldier," Scyeth said proudly, tossing his head a little.

The blond frowned as Mica started to spew out explanations (and nearly cut off his finger, don't think the demon didn't notice) before he suddenly changed the topic. He blinked, heartily confused. He thought they were friends! Weren't they supposed to tell each other stuff? (Hell, he told Micajah everything.)

"...is Cane bullying you, or something?"

There were a few problems with that statement, but Scyeth would think of anything else. (The fact the Scyeth was probably the closest thing the school had to a bully didn't really cross his mind.) "Oh, uh, what? No. No, no, no. You leave those contents in there." Scyeth wrinkled his nose when intestine contents registered with him. "Moving right along, Mica, remove some more organs, please."

Micajah looked up from here he'd been squeezing the frog's intestines anyway, not really listening to Scyeth, and his face turned two shades of red at the mention of Cane and the action of bullying.

"Bullying? No, no - far from it. He's really nice to me, so that's really all there is. Really."

He didn't like lying, it was becoming hard to do so if the conversation stayed this way, and Micajah tried to press on and keep things focused to the stupid frog he was cutting up in the manner one would carve a turkey. Why he was thinking of food, the teen was unsure, but he did want to get something to eat after this.

"Okay then, moving along. This is the stomach, the kidneys. If we break the ribcage -"

He stopped and reached up to push the already broken pieces further apart.

" -we can see the lungs. I'll stop here so you can catch up."
