The day had started off typical enough. Nikolai had awoken, had a little morning chat with his father and then took off for his daily wanderings. Determined to go a little further than he had before on his previous walks.
These little trips were what satiated his roaming spirit. He did not have the wander lust like his mother and Taigi. Even Lex seemed to disappear for days at a time. But the young stallion just felt better knowing that he could return home to where his father would be waiting for him. And on the brief occasion his grand father would be there as well.
A small path through the forest, one that he had never walked upon before but it seemed well beaten, opened up before him. Gray eyes peered this way and that as he started off for a bit of exploration. Nikolai always loved looking at the world. Even if some corners seemed a bit darker than others, there was always something new and beautiful to see.
Today was indeed a pretty average day.

Astraaelyn galloped out of the cliff-side-cave she lived in, snapping her wings out and soaring above her captor's heads. She wasn't sure why she had picked a spot so near her 'parents' home when she was finally big enough to be on her own. The only thing she could think of was that she wanted to be in the same place so her prince charming would know where to find and rescue her. Sighing she flapped her wings gaining a bit of altitude before she glided, searching the forest with her lilac eyes for a place to touch down and eat. As much as the mare hated to be grounded she had to eat.
It didn't take her too long to find a small clearing, it wasn't the most ideal being close to what looked like another horse's home but it would have to do. She could hear her stomach grumbling for food. Pulling her wings in she began her descent towards the clearing. In her haste for food she miss timed her dive and had to come to a running stop in the middle of the clearing, rearing back on her hind legs and whinnying loudly in surprise, her wings flared out on either side of her to try and help her balance. Her lilac eyes were wide as she brought all four hooves back down to the ground with a snort, breathing hard and looking about to see if anyone saw her less than graceful landing. She hoped not, she usually landed so prettily she would hate for someone to witness this landing.

The sudden appearance of the winged mare, to say the least, had startled Nikolai just a bit. He hadn't really expected anyone to just drop out of the sky like that. Though maybe it should have been expected. Its not like Soquili with wings were rare in the first place.
His ears swiveled forward as he finally caught a good glimpse of her. And to say the lease she was indeed quite an attractive mare. Niko hadn't had much exposure to mares anyway, so he was kind of going on a first seen basis. There might of been more extravagant mares prancing about, but the young stallion seemed more inclined to those with more subtle beauty than anything else. Even her wings hadn't really caught his attention at first.
But what had were the butterfly markings on her chest and leg. The way her body moved seemed to cause them to come alive. As if they were living, breathing creatures upon her pelt. And as for her not so graceful decent, well. Nikolai didn't really see much wrong with it. He did not have wings of his own so how could he really judge?
Giving a drawn out flick of his long tail, the stallion came to the conclusion that perhaps just standing there staring at her wouldn't really get anywhere. And--if she saw him she might of gotten upset or something. He didn't like making others upset. Their disposition and emotions tended to bleed onto his own.
Empathy was what his father called it.
Clearing his throat, Nikolai made a casual approach. Stopping short a few yards of the mare. Even though his experiences with mares were pretty much zero except for the occasional female family member, that wouldn't stop him from at least approaching her and perhaps striking up a casual conversation. He liked meeting new people.
Nikolai lowered his head lightly, a small, sweet smile coming to his dark lips as he tried his best to show in his body language that he meant no harm to her. Everyone was different. And you needed to at least approach everyone with a bit of neutrality. Unkempt bangs fell over those gray eyes as a nicker rumbled from within his chest. "Hello there." Well it was a start. "Lovely day isn't it?"

At first Astra thought she was mercifully alone with no one to witness her less than graceful act. She sighed relaxing but then was stopped by the sound of a nicker. The mare turned towards the sound and paused staring. It was a stallion, and he was handsome. Astra made a quick check of herself, twitching her braided tail until it hung nicely and giving her head a toss the settle her likewise braided mane. Satisfied she looked into his eyes with a smile on her muzzle, she had meant to say something but she was entranced by his eyes; they were the colour of liquid silver and seemed to see into her soul. Or maybe that feeling came from the fact that she was very much entranced with him, being one of the first males she'd seen.
Blinking out of her trance she remembered what she was going to say and stepped towards him, neighing softly. "Yes, it's quite nice, so...what are you doing in the middle of the forest?" So it wasn't the most artistic or creative thing to say but the winged mare was trying to figure out how she would know if he was her rescuer. As much as she had daydreamed about it happening she had never thought of what she would actually do, other then runaway with him.

Nikolai chuckled internally as he watched her trying to make herself presentable. Mares were weird sometimes, but trying to wrap your mind around how they thought could end up giving you a head ache. At least that's what he had heard from his grandfather. Still, she didn't really need to do that. He thought she was pretty anyway.
His chuckle this time was outward. Well, at least she was straight and to the point of her questioning. At least she wasn't p***y footing around it. He wasn't too sure how he'd deal with someone who perhaps wasn't quite assertive in a conversation. His tail flicked casually before he spoke. "Wandering. I suppose you could say adventuring, searching, whatever name you'd like to give it."
Taking a few more steps towards her, the pleasant smile still on his lips. "And what are you doing out here in the middle of the forest?"

(( Sorry this took so long, I've been busy lately x_x ))
Searching. Her eyes lit up and she moved even closer to him, now very much in his personal space. She fluffed her wings nervously before she spoke. "Searching? For what?" Please say for me, She just knew that he was her rescuer, the one that would take her away from her captors. There was no one else he could be! Her thoughts were flying through her head at a hundred miles a minute which made it difficult for her to figure out what to do next. She wanted to make a good impression but she was so nervous.
The poor mare was so nervous that she almost missed his last question. "Oh...oh, I was just coming down here to graze. I live in a cave, there's not much grass inside of it..." 'There's not much grass inside of it' it's a cave of course there's no grass inside it, he's gonna think you're really smart. Astra gave herself a mental shake before sending a charming smile at the stallion, hopefully that would distract him from her not-so-intelligent words.

((Totally cool. XD I've been pretty busy myself lately. Lol. ))
Silver eyes blinked as she got pretty close, pretty quickly. It took him by surprise a bit, a single ear flicking in a simultaneous fashion with his long white tail. She seemed to have a wistful and almost pleading look in her eyes, which Nikolai didn't really understand. It seemed a bit strange to him but merely shrugged mentally. "That's one thing that the spirits keep hidden from me. I don't know exactly what. But I'm sure I'll find it wherever my hooves decide to take me."
Nikolai could sense the nervousness about her. And her response to his question made him smile while a little chuckle passed through his lips. "This does seem like a pretty good spot to come and graze." His eyes swept over the area before glancing back at her. A small breeze catching the feather behind his ear. Causing it to flutter gently against his neck. "Hm, a cave? Seems kinda dreary to me. I'd rather live in a nice, open space. With lots of grass and sunshine. No boundaries to where I go."
Well, he did kind of live that kind of lifestyle. He never really stuck to one place. Sure he still visited his father from time to time, but he wasn't a foal anymore. So there was no real reason for him to just stick around bothering his family all the time with his constant presence. Even though Nikolai was sure he wouldn't be bothering them, and they'd say so for sure. He just figured it was best to stick it out on his own. No real reason to be so dependent.

She was a bit disappointed in his answer, she was sure he would be searching for her. For a moment she frowned but then just as quick she was smiling again. He probably was searching for her, he just didn't know it yet! The mare's pelt rippled in excitement, well she'd just have to stick around until he figured it out. That wouldn't be too hard, after all, she had wings and he didn't- it'd be easy to follow him.
She nodded at his words, happy that he didn't seem to think her stupid or simple. "Yes, I usually go deeper into the forest but I saw this place and decided to stop." Not to mention I'm starving As if to remind her she felt her stomach gurgle, but she ignored it- finding her knight in shining armor was more important than food. Her eyes caught sight of the feather tucked behind his ear and she watched it transfixed for a moment. She wondered how his feather stayed, the feathers she wore were braided in to her mane and tail. His words brought her out of her musing and she nodded again. Yes, her cave was pretty dreary but she didn't really have a choice about living there, she was waiting to be rescued after all. "That sounds nice, my cave's alright, it keeps me close to Tavarii and Carmine so I'm easily found." That used to be her biggest fear, that her knight in shining armor wouldn't be able to find her. But now it seemed as if it didn't matter because she had found him! A little backwards but she didn't mind.

Nikolai caught the brief frown and sudden change in the air around her, but as quickly as it came it departed. And the suddenness of it all left him mildly bewildered. But her smile which quickly re-appeared pushed those thoughts of confusion out of his mind all together.
She did have a pretty smile after all.
The stallions eyes glanced towards the forest. So many Soquili tended to wander there. Even more so the less desirable ones. "Hopefully you don't go too deep into the forest. There are some nasty characters that tend to lurk amongst the shadows of the trees." From a very young age, Nikolai had been told of what beings you could just as easily run into by just turning the corner in the forest. So usually he kept more towards the edge of the tree line. Just enough to give him enough room to flee in case something did occur. Which never seemed to really happen, but why chance it? Not that he was scared. He'd just rather not be running for his life and get turned around amongst the thick gaggle of forest. Better safe than sorry, he supposed.
Ears pricked forward as she mentioned to names. "Tavarii and Carmine? Are they your friends?" His head tilted slightly. Hair sliding gently against the side of his neck and the back of his ears. But then a sudden though came to mind. He hadn't quite introduced himself, nor did he even know the name of this pretty mare he had been speaking with. "I hope you'll forgive me. I've been rude and not asked for your name or even give you my own name." Niko lowered his head lightly, which was mainly for pleasantries really. There were a few Soquili that would probably put a bit more flare into their greetings, but he wasn't all that into flare. "My name is Nikolai. And yours?"
