Appearance: Cassius is of average height and average build, although fairly fit from training as a Recruit. Even the contrast between his pale hair and dark skin is rarely enough to draw attention. Having had an early growth spurt, he habitually slouches, although he is no longer the tallest among his peers.
Personality: Cassius likes to please. He works hard. He neither joins in with rule-breaking nor speaks out about it. He’s happy to lie if necessary, but more likely just to omit parts of the truth. As the type of person who will listen to anyone, and be a shoulder to cry on if necessary, but who rarely opens up to anyone himself, he has few real friends. That’s not to say that he’s a loner; he is always friendly, always making an effort to be social, and others are for the most part friendly back. He’s just not the type to make a big impact on anyone else’s life, and that’s the way he likes it.
History: Both of Cassius’ parents were Wolfriders, but he was brought up by his mother’s sister, who was a cook at the Academy and lived in the City. She never married or had children of her own, and alternated between enforcing strict rules and spoiling her ward. His parents took only intermittent interest in Cassius, but he never seemed to mind, and he was not greatly affected by their deaths, both before he reached the age of ten. His aunt, who had always been sickly, died a few years later. Rather than being taken in by a more distant relative or attempting to find a job – since he was only thirteen – Cassius applied to the Academy, and was accepted.
He’s been there four years now, and knows pretty much all there is to know about being a Wolfrider. Although he originally joined because of a sense of duty to his parents, and will even now say that he doesn’t like the Academy, Cassius has a hidden passion for wolves and the life of a Wolfrider, and can’t wait to reach eighteen. Just so long as he doesn’t have to wait four more years to bond!
