The sun beat down on her side as she rolled on from her side to her back and then to her side again. Kicking her legs caused the snow surrounding her to fly into the air and cloak her in a fresh coat of fluffy snow. It was true she hated this cold, wet stuff, but to have it float around her lightened her mood. The thick blanket that coated the ground glisened so brightly she couldn't stare at it long without closing her eyes.

Melanie stuck her muzzle straight into a small mound of snow and huffed into it causing and a small explosion of white puffy flakes. She smiled at her own antics and shook her head. She was lonely these days and little things to entertain herself like this was usually how she spent her time, which was better than thinking. She hated it because it was all she could do. Dwell on a past that she couldn't change and was stubborn and bullheaded to make up for. She sighed heavily and rolled onto her stomach, pulling her legs under her incase she wanted to stand quickly.

It was times like these where she wished she took along travel companions. At least then she could laugh at them instead of talking to herself day in and day out. She sighed again, this time a soft and quiet one that was barely audible. Her ears perked up and she squinted to something she saw in the distance. From here, she couldn't make out what the figure was, but could tell it was bright against white snow.

Xavier had always preferred to stay near the beach, but during winter with snow on the ground, he found himself traveling farther away. The water was too cold to enjoy, and his body took more similarities to his father than his mother. He did not have fins or scales like his brothers' did, but a thick mane and tail with fur covering his body. At least it helped him stay a little warmer in the winter, anyway -- and he could always enjoy the water in the spring and summer time. In the winter and most of the fall, Xavier took to wandering away from his family to explore elsewhere.

He left cloven hoof prints in the powdery snow as he walked, listening as the snow crunched beneath his feet with each step. In the distance, he could hear the sounds of another creature nearby, ears pricked forward to listen -- his father had taught him to always be alert, and so Xavier approached with caution, but unafraid. The sight that greeted him, however, did not seem threatening at all; he could tell, at least, it was another soquili, who seemed to be playing in the snow. He stood where he was, watching her for a moment until the other soquili noticed him, too.

Knowing it was rude to stare, he closed the distance between them to greet the mare properly, catching sight of blue eyes that reminded him of the sea. "Hello," he said, speaking with a gentle voice, smiling at her. "I was just passing by, and I couldn't help noticing you out here by yourself. I'm not intruding, am I?" Xavier asked, but only out of courtesy. It was how he was raised, after all.

The greenish figure slowly came in veiw and from where she was laying the figure appeared to be floating towards her. That can't be right.. She tilted her head a bit and tried to get a better look at it. Drat!

As the figure got closer she realized the stallions white legs and smiled to herself. "Of course.." She knew that the figure wasn't really floating to begin with but in her dazed and playful state she hadn't put together that his legs simply matched the snow. Perhaps the temperature was getting to her.

Her ears twitched at the sound of his voice, gentle and smooth. She couldn't help the smile that spread across her features at his formality. "No.. Of course not. I'm just trying to enjoy what I can of the latest snowfall, though I usually don't like much. How about yourself?" The brightness of her eyes increased slightly with her excitement that someone had come across her. It was really no fun at all rolling around in the snow by ones self. But with someone... That was completely different. Especially someone as stunning as he. And with a mane like his, so full, she bury her muzzle in it. "I'm Melanie and you are?" she asked rolling back on her side.
