For a time only silence emerged from the predominately earth-toned mare. Her eyes were shut, head raised towards the fierce sun above. Mid-day had caught her in a rare time away from her father, unusual for her considering it was really only early morning and late evening when she would take her temporary leave of his presence. But the dark stallion had things to attend to elsewhere in their family's small territory, telling her something or other drew him out to the beach south of their home. Perhaps the strange two-legger who resided there? He'd begun to go there often, and most likely stood there along side her staring into the fire and smoke just as the half-blind hume did.
Or so his daughter would assume, given the once or twice times she accompanied her father in his trips down south.
Today she'd instead opted to remain in the general area around home, slinking further up the river whilst remaining mostly in the forested area of the western bank. In theory, she could keep following the river, go see the two-leggers' village. Rarely did she go amongst them, but now and then curiosity got the better of her - and often rewarded her with apples or other treats if she was bold enough to take them from their hands.
Not now though. No... no, being around two-leggers just wasn't as interesting or captivating in the restless mood she was in that day. The chill of winter had broken, if only for a spell of a few days, and the unusual heat was welcomed and loved. Not as dark as her father or brother, but her coat still sucked up the rays like plants would water. Her body glistened slightly, the sweat from racing through the underbrush evaporating and leaving the mare cooled and comfortable. This was the kind of weather she preferred - cold enough to keep her from fainting when running blindly wherever her legs could take her, but warm enough to keep her happy when her body finally committed mutiny and she was forced to stop somewhere to rest.
So here she was, breathing slightly rushed as her pulse thundered in her veins, form slowly losing its work-out shine. Though she looked almost half asleep, her ears were still lazily tuned into the outside world, cautious though never had she heard of one of the villains from her foalhood stories -Kalona, Skinwalkers, and other various depictions of evil and violence- actually coming to live in this general region. Why fear creatures you'd never even seen before in your life? It was pointless worries in her book.
And pointless worries wasted valuable energy that could otherwise be used for mindless racing and exploring.

A rock star on the move, was Tokidoki. He had no one really special in his life.. Not even family. He didn't know any of his family. As he was abandoned at birth. But that wasn't something he could have prevented. No one can really prevent abandonment. It's inevitable, especially if you can't do anything about it. But he has put that all in his past now. He doesn't worry about that anymore. He just worries about what he's doing now, rather then what he was doing then. But, Tokidoki was always on the move. Not staying in one place for to long. He liked to travel, see new things, and places. Sure, sometimes he way run into some company to keep him around for a little longer. But he'd surely be gone by the night. Which gave him the advantage of flying through the starry night sky. One thing he absolutely adored. But he would never share that with anyone.. Well, pretty much no one. But who didn't like the stars.. Really? Plus, one could only imagine he would. With stars covering his body, and the night sky reflecting off his wings. What a sight. However, he didn't roam the sky this mid-day. He roamed the grounds, heading towards the river. It was a nice day, might as well take advantage of it with a little walk. His wings stayed close to his body, as not to get caught in trees and such. His long tail dragged on the floor carelessly. While his shades partially hid his face, and protected his eyes from the random bursts of sunlight. Not paying much attention to the crackling noises he might've been making. He was fearless, he didn't have to worry about anyone coming by. Plus, he was pretty fast on his feet. If he needed to get away from someone, he'd be good. But before he knew it, he was at the river. Letting his wings stretch out now. They glistened in the bit of sun that hit them. With the stars on his sides letting off somewhat of a shine as well. He didn't need a drink at the moment. He just wanted to feel the fresh water under his hooves for a moment. So, he began to walk down the river, not a care in the world. And not expecting to meet anyone either. But surprises are always fun~

Her ears twitched, eyes slipping open as her mind registered the sounds of another body moving through the underbrush. A larger body, if her hearing was correct - she at least never made that much noise when walking through the woods, light and small as she was.
Surely the mare was her father's daughter, ever a seeker of truth and a slave to her curiosity. It's what had her picking up her hooves, had her muscles pushing her forward and towards the sounds as if the other being was magnetized. Around her the trees thinned slightly, the gurglings of water over rocks informing her of the river before her eyes picked up on the truth of the statement. It was then she saw the finish line to her short wandering.
Pale green irises shrank slightly within the surrounding white, eyes widening in foal-like wonder. Wings. This stranger had wings. Bird wings, like her grandmother and aunt according to her father. Never had Amaris actually seen the two mares in question for herself, but she could recall a colt from her childhood with avian wings of his own.
Yet... these were different. They sparkled like stars, a theme continued over his body it seemed. Even his coloring was foreign to her eyes, looking more like a cut-out of the early sunrise or late sunset. Looking rather out of place, really.
Her earthy tones had her blending into the ground and forest, but he stuck out immensely against the scenery. Did he even care? For few reasons she could understand she found herself smiling at this.
"I've never seen someone like you anywhere near these parts before," she called out lightly, stepping away from the trees in which she kept herself and into the sunlight. Her eyes danced with awe and questions, head bowing slightly in a formal greeting she's acquired from her father. She paused for a moment, wondering if it would even be worth the breath to inform him these lands were occupied - it wasn't like her parents cared, or anyone else in their haphazard "herd" so long as "trespassers" weren't of the violent variety.
Looking at him now, she wasn't fully sure if he followed that route, though as close as she was to the tree line along with her confidence in her speed made her unafraid of any possible threat he might pose. Even with wings it would be difficult to chase her through the denser wood she would pass through to reach her home.
Not to mention waiting there by now was most likely the stallion of Kalona blood that doubled as both father and protector to the young mare.

Tokidoki could only hear the sounds of the water now. A gentle sound of water flowing in the direction it desired. A few rocks blocked some of the waters way. But it would only roar, then pass the rock as if it wasn't there. Water would sometimes intrigue him, to the sense that he could watch it for hours. It was so peaceful, and made his mind calm. But it would also, sometimes, make his mind wonder. Wonder through past memories he wish he could forget. But he knew he would, and he had excepted it. Keeping his eyes to the water, he didn't notice a mare come into sight. Until she began to speak, and his attention was brought to her.
Most of her was a neutral colors of brown. But there was also a pale blue color that swam around her hooves. And red, like him, that took over half her mane and tail. But her eyes, were green. A very cool, bright green. Very fitting for a mare with surrounded by earth tones. He just looked at her for a minute. She was quite the sight. And for some reason, she seemed rather interested in his 'odd' features. But comparing the two, and their surroundings at the moment. He stuck out like a sore thumb. But he didn't mind that. Sticking out was part of his rock star nature.. I guess..
"That's probably because I've never been around here before." He smiled.
Tokidoki never wanted to come off as dangerous or hostile. He wasn't anywhere near that sort of personality. So, he always liked to give a smile with his first words of interaction. To lessen the tension, if they were feeling around or uncomfortable. He was a good rock star.. Well.. When it came to being nice to others.

Amaris inclined her head at his words in silent acceptance. It was a simple enough explenation, one that it was reasonably impossible to not believe. Besides, he seemed neither hostile or the type to scheme, so why be mistrusting?
"If I may then, what brings you here?"
Often she was told to have a cat's curiosity, but it was a complement to her ears. Felines seemed to be quite versed in the world from what she'd seen. Why take offense to a statement she wished were true?
Steadily she stepped further towards him, pace easy and simple enough to stop should it seem unwise or he disliked even a respectful distance. "Visitors seem to have taken to avoiding this place, so to be honest I'm shocked to see anyone in these parts, unless they're somehow related to or friends of my family." She paused then, head cocked to the side as she took in yet again the bloody tints of the other. Was not her grandmother of similar tones? Her great grandfather was colored various reds if she recalled her father's quick descriptions correctly. Perhaps he was related, yet she felt no pull of blood she usually felt when near kin.
Coincidence then, a random traveler brought here by whatever passing means or mind. A welcomed change if that was the case. For the moment Amaris blessed the fact the brooding, hostile mare her father called herdmate was traveling on her own for the time being. If she had to guess, that was the cause of so few strangers stopping by as of late.
Leave it to an adult to ruin all the fun.
"Oh, pardon," she started with a jolt, blinking in blunt shock as a folly came to mind. "I haven't introduced myself, have I? I'm sorry, I'm Amaris." Of course she'd be the one to go off asking personal questions before introductions were even made.

Toki listened to the mares remarks. He didn't know it was odd for others to visit the area. He was only wondering, traveling, like a rock star would. He didn't know what places other Soq were unwelcome. He just let the wind guide him. About to answer her question, he saw her move closer to him. He raised a brow as she slowly made her way to him a bit more. Curious, wasn't she? However, he didn't know anyone of this particular land. Or that he could remember anyway.
Shaking his head no, he answered. "I don't know anyone around here.. The wind just guided me here."
He looked the mare up and down, walking slightly closer to her. He didn't know what to made of his new company. He hadn't been expecting to meet anyone. Then again, he also didn't know others lived in the area. But I suppose as long as she was here. Might as well get to know someone. Right?
"Nice to meet you. I'm Tokidoki." He gave a light bow of the head.

"The wind?" she echoed his words, a frown of question and wonder coming to her then. Again she looked to his wings, mind fading to images of another winged boy in her youth. She'd come across him after following a hawk as she'd run. Even now she could remember the mystery and splendor the avians held over her, something that faded little as she grew.
Birds were one thing to see take wing... but such large creatures like them? How could he, so much bigger than Amaris herself, soar through the open skies with nothing but the air to keep him safe? It was a mystery she would never understand.
She'd since stopped her approach, listening to his name and giving a bow of her own with an accompanying smile. The smile only grew when she realized the rhythm and rhyme within the syllables, how similar they were to "oki-doki" as she used to say. "I've never heard of a name like that before, I like it," she laughed, honest in her joy and words. She meant no disrespect, personally she had a preference for that which brought back childish natures, but a question from before hung over her like a heavy cloud.
"You said... you said the wind brought you here though... I wonder... well," Amaris paused, cheerful expression falling as she struggled with her terming. "Well, obviously I can't fly," she shrugged her wingless shoulders, "but I see the birds, and even the few of our kind that pass through the skies, and... well... what's it like, to fly..?" Did her question even make sense? Could he even explain it, if he was so inclined to answer? Or was that again asking too much of the stranger to thrust her curiosity on him like this?

Toki nodded as she seem to slightly question his wind comment. He loved to let the wind take him where it wanted him to go. His human was very encouraging of it. As you never know where you're going to end up. It was an adventure, that could never really end. That is, if you didn't let it. At any moment it could turn the trail, or even stop. It was something he did quite frequently.
He was pleased when he saw the smile on her face grow. It was always nice to make others smile, even with your name. Toki liked his name. He knew it was weird, odd, uncommon.. It was unique, no doubt about it. And he only laughed as she laughed. Nodding, as she mentioned she liked his name.
As she began to say something else, he listened closely. She seemed to have a bit of trouble asking her question. But as soon as she mention how she couldn't fly.. He knew where it was leading. What is flying like? Well, some might say it was unexplainable. But to him, it was. To him, it was like being free. On the ground, you could come across many set backs. A crowded forest, bodies of water, other Soq you don't feel like interacting with. But while flying, it's rare to run into others. It's just free roaming space. Only problem were the clouds, but that was not that big of a deal.
"Well, to me.. It's like being completely free.. From everything." He continued to smile at her. No one asked him that before, and he was glad he could share it with someone~

It was a relief how he neither laughed nor scolded her for her questions, and while she had little experience in the latter, the former was still just as flustering and embarrassing. Instead he seemed happy to answer, his smile pushing one back onto her face.
Ah, and a bonus, a reference she could relate to. Semi-sort of, anyways.
She could only be so "free," after all, tied not only to the ground but her own family. They were bonds she did not fight however, did not hold grudge against. Sure she often wished she could see how the lands looked from the sky, or could be as free as he or the birds, but what was the point of longing for something that could never be? She had her own methods of being happy and liberated, they just required a bit more of an imagination was all.
"I envy you, and yet, I can relate - sort of," she amended, again thinking to her previous train of thought. "When I run, I don't feel connected to anything around me, so I think I can understand what you mean." Amaris bowed her head, smile cheerful yet slightly apologetic. "Thank you for sharing that with me though, I apologize if my questions are a bother."

Toki wouldn't have laughed at such a question. There was much reason to why someone would ask it. It would be like him asking a Mer what it's like to live in water. He admired the waters as well. But he would much rather stay in the sky. He had grown accustom to it, and wouldn't, probably, be the same if he couldn't. Then again, he would probably think the same about the water if he were a Mer.
He listened to her as she replied to his answer. It was nice to know that others could feel the same freedom he did. Even if they didn't have wings. At least they had something to get away from everything. If someone couldn't get away, they would probably eventually go mad. The world was cruel and beautiful. But if you had no way to get away from it, either way you saw it. It would only get to you. I suppose that was what dreaming and imagination is really for. Escape.
He shook his head. "No need to be sorry. I don't mind at alls." He smiled.

The proper aura around her began to dissolve slightly, the space filling instead with happy warmth at acceptance. How lucky she was indeed, that her father would have chosen today to leave and give her the time to race off on her own. To think - that's all it would have taken for her to miss a meeting like this! Tragic, really.
And kind of pathetic.
Amaris' smile grew at his, laughing, "I wish most were like you then. Not everyone is so relaxed if asked personal questions like that." She shook her head with a sigh mixed in longing and disappointment. It'd make her life so much easier if people would just open up. Not that she could deny them their privacy of course, but still... curling up in a dark ball of doom doesn't do them any good either.
Tail swishing, ears twitching, she took a slight step back with the happy expression returning. "If you don't have to leave right away, there's a clearing near here with sweet grass and herbs." She paused as she took in his wings again. "Unless you rather areas where you can reach by wing?" Where winged ones like birds? Unable to walk properly on ground while grace was all they were in the air?

He nodded in agreeing about others opening up. Sometimes it did make things easier. However, it did depend on how personal the question got. If Toki were asked about his past, it is more then likely he wouldn't have wanted to respond to him. He despised his younger days, never wanting to think about it. He was happy with his life now, and never wanted to think about it. However, he was sure one day he would get close enough to someone.. Where it would all just come out. He knew it would happen, and he was waiting. Maybe then he would feel so much more refreshed..
He smiled, about to answer Amaris. "I wouldn't mind going at all. And I have no problem walking." He stretched out his wings, before folding them to his side.
Toki did adore flying, he loved it! But sometimes, he just felt like exploring the ground. Looking for new things, he couldn't really see or get to from his wings. Today, was one of those days. He had been walking around all day, and hadn't found anything to interesting to leave his day with. But lucky for him, he met Amaris. She knew this area, and was now taking him some place he wouldn't have gotten to by air. It was a good day.

Amaris grinned, glad to see they wouldn't have to part ways so soon just because of a minor technicality should he dislikes - or worse case scenario, be unable to - walking. "Wonderful! There's no briers this way, so at least you won't need to worry about them catching on your hair or wings." She'd seen it happen to a bird once when they'd snagged its wings, and even now found it difficult to suppress the shivers that arose as she recalled the avian's screams of pain.
Ever the polite mask, she motioned for him to follow as she turned and began her way back into the forest. Into the cool darkness of the wood she went, picking her way carefully through the underbrush and round trees. Usually she was much more light hoofed than this, barely watching the ground as she went, but now she was acting as a guide, and last thing she needed was to risk him perhaps being too cocky, not watch where he was going, and snag his hoof or something on a root or whatever and get himself hurt.
After a moment she paused, looking back to him over her shoulder as she continued on. The light was slowly returning through the thinning leaves, the clearing in question coming into view through the foliage. "Where exactly are you from, if you don't mind me asking? Have you traveled far to get here?"

Toki smiled, it was nice of Amaris to worry about briers sticking to him. But those small things never really bothered him. Most the time he didn't even feel them sticking to him. It was just something that didn't really phase him much..
"Oh, you don't have to worry about briers. They don't bother me.. I barely even fell them. And they just eventually off." He nodded.
As she began to lead the way, he followed. Wondering through the forest, he only did this now an then. He'd much rather wonder around in open plains, or mountains.. Or even a valley. Small, or even large crowed places were just not for him. However, he wasn't going to decline an invitation. He did like to get to know knew Soquili as well. So, it was all good.
As they traveled longer light began to shine through the trees. Letting his markings and wings shine through the darkness as it hit him. Something he had always admired in others, and himself. With that thought he brought his attention back to Amaris, as she began with her questions again. Not that he minded.
"The mountains.. But nothings ever really that far when you have wings on your back." He continued to smile as he watched where he stepped.

It was nice to have such a relaxing conversation with a stranger. He didn't mind her questions - what a change! - and seemed quite friendly himself. Usually meeting others included her father or Beatrice, with both elder equines making it their business to stand as a noted guard "just in case." Of course her father was much more lax, Trice often being a good reason for others to take their leave earlier than Amaris would like, so this... was much more to her liking.
"Your wings aren't that sensitive then? Sorry, I guess I was being overly cautious then." She gave an embarrassed chuckle, shaking her head at her own foolishness. He wasn't as small as those poor little birds, she should have known better than to assume...
Taking the last few well rehearsed steps over roots and briers, she stepped into the sun once more, turning her head to the warmth for a moment. The shade was nice, but something about the sun always made her so happy. Perhaps it was the blessing of her mother's coat rather than her father's jet black - he tend to become too overheated far too quickly for her taste, though she was used to giggling at his sighing retreat into the cool cave they called home or the relaxing shade of one of the various trees. The light brown she kept drew in just the right amount of heat to keep her comfortable, yet also was quick to lose the heat if she rested in the cooler shadows for a moment.
Another embarrassed laugh - she really was being rather ridiculous today, wasn't she? "The mountains are beautiful - I was there once when I was a foal. I'd met another foal there who was winged as well, though his weren't quite like yours." She paused, turning back to look at the limbs in question. The sight of the sunlight against his markings and feathers though made her stop, taken aback by the shine and glow.
"For one thing, they didn't look like they were made of stars in the sunlight." This one really was full of oddities, wasn't he? Were all those who hail from the mountains so... unique?
