There was no movement from the large lion as he tracked his prey with piercing red eyes, and only the quiver of his muscles from his excitement could betray him to the trained eye. He had followed his quarry for days now, anxious to finally complete his mission. The girls were waiting for him back home, and he could only imagine how excited Sylvia would be as he brought home their meal. Yet for some reason, she and Kelsha didn't excite him much anymore. He knew almost ever spot on their bodies, though he wished he knew more.
Such thoughts were lost to the heavens as he rushed, quickly and violently, out of his hiding place to pounce on the Gnu calf. But that wasn't his target. As soon as he made his attack, the mother swerved towards him, straight into his claws. He clung to her neck as he swung his hindquarters under her, slashing at her underbelly with his sickle claw, smirking as he felt her innards begin to gush out.
The attack didn't take long, and he felt satisfaction at the now-orphand calf's bleating. It wouldn't live long, and Hades felt he had just done some lion a great service. There was now an easy picking. He looked over his kill once, the poor creature still struggling for breath as her intestines lay strung out all over the ground. He would wait, let her suffer as he cleaned himself.

Some lion, indeed. Who could have realized what chain of events such a simple act might have wrought? It was a simple matter of convenience. He'd simply been traveling, same as he always did. No real rhyme or reason. Really. What was that? Aldebaran had been hungry, he'd admit it. But it was on a lucky day that he caught something on his first shot; wasn't all his fault. Though he'd grown into a sizable lion, there'd never been anyone to sit down and teach him all the in's and out's of hunting. The fact that he managed at all, kept his flesh from stretching too thinly over his ribs was miraculous enough.

So who would have expected that one of the first things he'd heard would be the distressed bleats of a baby gnu? Just like that! Aldebaran perked up, his ears forward - then quickly sunk back down again. Right. Careful. Cautious. He could do this. C'mon, Baran. Wouldn't have to go on an empty stomach if he could nail this one.

He was so busy keeping tabs on his meal-to-be, his mind so one-tracked on an easy meal that it didn't even dawn on him. The scent of blood, of another lion; the fact that he really wasn't alone at all. He didn't notice. Not as he crept closer. Not as he lunged from the bushes with a low growl, a lost patch of stars in the midst of the day. Not even as he closed his jaws around his prey's throat; it was over. Just that easy.

Aldebaran released it once he was sure it was dead, a wide smile spreading over his face as he licked his licked. Perfect; he'd actually done it. He'd nailed it and - and that's when he saw him. The other male with his prey, still half-alive even as its innards laced the ground. And all Aldebaran could do was stare with mis-matched eyes, his mouth forming a silent 'o'.

... uh-oh.

The distress calls stopped, but Hades took no notice. He was too busy burying his head into the body, scarfing down the heart and liver. The parts he loved the most. He would have started wolfing down the rest had he not toned down his instincts and remembered his girls. His girls. He snarled happily as he withdrew his head and shredded the lifeless body. IT would be much easier for him to carry it if it was...less there. Besides, He'd learned his girls disliked innards so he-

He stopped as he finally noticed the silence. The breathing that was nearby. He turned his head first, then his body, to look and see if the stupid calf had run off.

No.

Indeed it hadn't.

It had fallen prey, as he had expected. But he hadn't expected one so young and tender to have felled it. from his throat bubbled up a purr...a reptilian purr that should not exist in the world anymore.

"Greetings..."

It didn't take too much to put Aldebaran at ease. Really, it didn't. The lion didn't look mad. That was the important thing, right? He let out a soft sigh of relief, licking his lips again as he nodded to the other male. That was the polite thing to do, right? He didn't really know; he just kind of guessed at what he saw. "Hi there... " His voice was deep, but surprisingly soft. Or maybe not so surprising at all. It was what you might expect if the stars could sing.

If he'd really thought about it, it might have dawned on him. Just how unique this lion was. How out of place he seemed. But that's just the thing. He didn't think about it. At all. "I guess I should say thanks?, " he offered. "For the meal, I mean." He even ventured to offer a small smile; at least the gnu seemed dead now. It was hard to be too intimidated by a corpse... they all killed to eat, right?

He licked his lips as the other did, but more than likely for extremely different reasons. Here was something...different.

"You are more than welcome." he rumbled lowly, starting his examination of the young male. Obviously not the kind that had been taught how to survive well, judging from the way he looked, but that was of no importance. Hades had his own priorities.

"I had not expected it to be felled so soon, and i had also not expected it to be felled by someone so...tempting." he hissed walking towards him slowly. "It seems that at the moment, we shall be dining together. What would your name be?" he asked as he started to circle, wide and slow.

Aldebaran's smile brightened. Wow. What a nice lion. Most would get kind of mad to have someone strange so close to their kill (he'd learned that one the hard way). But this guy didn't seem too upset about it at all. Though his choice of words had him sort of... "Tempting?, " he echoed curiously, flicking his mane out of his eyes with a light toss of his head. His 'stars' shimmered with even that tiny movement. What did he mean by that? Was it a compliment? It didn't sound like an insult... but tempting how?

Oh well. He shrugged it off with another grin. "I suppose so. I hope you don't mind... it's nice to have some company for a change, " he admitted, chuckling softly to himself. Utterly unawares of the way the lion was beginning to circle, slowly. Tightening the noose. "My name is Aldebaran. I know it's kind of a mouthful, so if you want to call me 'Baran' or something it's fine, " he offered. "And your name?"

He liked them innocent. Naivety was a delight to play with as he had learned long ago. He was the hunter and everything else was his prey. Everything. But it would be best to restrain himself until he and this male were better acquainted; He really disliked when he had to use force. He continued circling, admiring his ‘catch’. Thing was, would he be able to keep it?

“I do not mind at all, Baran. As a matter of fact, I quite enjoy having company at mealtimes. I get awfully lonely. Someone as handsome as you is a welcome change.” He tightened his circling and began to run his tailfeather slowly across Aldebaran’s body. “As for my name…I am known by many titles; Error, Failure, and most used, INGEN.EXP.XXX-0000XX-X.” The last was said with a rather robotic tone, seeing as all that ‘name’ was was simply a filename. “But to not cause headaches…You may call me Hades as everyone else does.”

That was a relief. It seemed like Hades was in the same boat as him. Though he blinked, a bit taken aback by the compliment. Handsome? Had he just called him handsome? He had to have been. He was talking to him, and there certainly wasn't anyone else there. But he hadn't been around many lions, period - much less any who said things like that. Did he mean it?

If that had caught him off-guard, the tail feather running over him was enough to earn a soft gasp of surprise. He wasn't used to contact like that either. Aldebaran squirmed lightly. It was weird. It sort of tickled. But it also felt sort of... nice. He almost wanted him to do it again. It didn't explain why his face was getting so warm beneath the fur.

His mismatched eyes blinked furiously again at he heard the lion's names. "Wow... and here I thought my name was the mouthful." He chuckled softly, offering the male another warm smile. "Hades... I like it." Aldebaran frowned faintly. "Much better than 'Failure'. Why would anyone call you that?"

He loved the smile. He loved it like he loved the feel of Aldebaran's fur against his as he circled close enough to rub his body against the young male's.

"Your name is certainly one of the best i have heard." As he spoke, he flicked his tongue in and out quickly. A habit, nothing more. "And i am certainly pleased that you like my name. As for why i am called failure...That will be a story for another time..." He stopped circling to stand beside Aldebaran, running his tail down his back slowly. "In the meantime, would you care to accompany back to my territory? We are not that far and you will be...fairly safer there than here..."

Subconsciously, he leaned in towards the older male as Hades circled close enough, eyes flitting shut for mere seconds as his scent invaded his senses. Overpowering. Not in a bad way. His cheeks were still burning, even more so at his praise. "It's not really anything... special... , " he said softly, his gaze trailing to Hades' tongue as it flicked out. Even something as small as that further reminded him he wasn't dealing with a typical lion here. Baran was glad; typical lions had left him to fend for himself from the start. Or worse. But not this one.

The feather-tail touch to his shining fur was still something he wasn't used to; but he couldn't bite back a tiny purr at the sensation. It wasn't unwelcome. Not at all. He blinked again, a hint of surprise in his expressive eyes at the offer. "Really? ... you wouldn't mind me there?"
