The forest was quiet today. As much time as he spent wandering through the trees, Serio could tell that winter was definitely here to stay at this point. Very few birds fluttered through the trees, many of which were void of leaves, and there wasn't a single funny little squirrel to be found. The silence of it all served as a sad reminder of just how alone and bored he really was. How unfortunate. Lifting his horned head, the male stared into the dull looking sky, fully visible in the wide clearing he'd just fumbled into. The snow was thicker here, the ground not as protected by branches and foliage. Not that he minded much. With a laugh, he flopped into the powder, sending it flying this way and that with reckless abandon. It's not like there was anything else to do. Snow was cold, but it was the most exciting playmate he had.

The soft crunch of snow beneath her paws played through the silence, an empty note. Meiyo sighed gently, almost inaudibly. How barren this forest was. Void of almost all life. No thriving plants. No animals. No fellow Ulaya. She continued on pondering the depth of the forest. Could there really be no one else here? A faint laugh broke the silence, followed by a pounding crunch. She saw a flurry of motion, a white blur, in the corner of her eye. Was somebody there? She quickly but carefully made her way over to the area. As she neared there came into view a clearing and an orange and black Moto'undil lying at its center, small mounds of disturbed snow at his sides. Curiousity piqued she slowly walked foward. "Erm...hello."

That was really all that was needed. In a flash, the male's head was up and searching, ears attentive. As intelligent as he was and as many times as his mind had yelled at him to STOP being so jumpy and excitable and annoying, he couldn't help himself. The idea of a potential new friend was too much for his internal happy-kid-self. Finally spotting his caller, he rose with a quickness, shortening the distance between them as his slender tail swayed wildly. "Hello, beauti-" STOP being so forward, he told himself. "Hello, miss." he chose next, smiling gently and trying to reveal that he really wasn't such a bad guy. "I'm Seriozha. It's a pleasure to meet you." And it most certainly was. He just hoped he hadn't already scared her off. There were only a few he could remember that stayed with him after his outbursts.

Meiyo took a small step back, startled by the male's speed. Having regained her composure, a small smile tugged at the corners of her mouth. He had almost said "Hello beautiful" before switching to a more tactful greeting. She wouldn't have minded. It wasn't very often that others complimented her so easily. As a matter of fact she hardly received them at all. Seriozha huh? He didn't seem so bad, in fact she rather liked him. He seems like a really nice guy. She cocked her head and regarded him for a moment. "Likewise Seriozha. My name is Meiyo!" She grinned, glad to have found someone to talk to.

Well, this was a definite surprise. Of course, it was quite delightful at the same time. The gentle smile widened into a happy grin. She hadn't asked him to step back or stop being so loud (although surprisingly, he still got along quite well with the only Ulaya who'd ever asked him to lower his voice) and she seemed willing to stay and chat. He'd been looking for someone to talk to for a while. He always had a lot to say and no one to say it to. "It's a nice day, isn't it? A little cold, but not bad." He lifted his head once more, examining the sky with a mostly thoughtful expression. "Do you live around here?" he asked, actually pretty good at idle conversation, despite the fact that many didn't give him a chance.

She sat down beside him and turned her gaze upwards as well. "Sure is. Turns out it was a great day for walking, though I prefer the fall." She closed her eyes enjoying the feeling of the calm breeze rippling her fur "I don't live around here...I don't really live anywhere. I just sort of drift along, following the path of wind you could say." She opened her eyes and glanced over at him. "Do you?"

When she moved to his side, Serio's full attention returned to her, even if his gaze didn't. Nodding a bit in agreement, he laughed. "The fall's nice, too. Especially all the leaves on the ground." They were as entertaining as the snow, he thought. When he could feel her eyes on him now, he too looked away from the sky. "Me? Naw, I don't either..." The more he really thought about it, that made them a couple of unfortunates, didn't it? Sometimes it was nice to be able to wander this way and that without feeling tied down. Other times, he couldn't help but wish for a place to call his own. A place he could return to and feel completely comfortable. Blinking, a sheepish expression lit his features. "Living in one place is overrated, right?" he joked.

She thought of that lingering feeling of a muzzle resting on her forehead, of the parents, the family, she never had, and then of all the beautiful places she has seen, all of her wonderful memories, of meeting Seriozha today. She laughed, "Yeah. Who wants to be tied down anyway when there's so much to see in the world and so many people to meet." She threw herself into the snow on her back, still looking up at him. "The world is ours to explore, why waste that? Right?" She waited pensively for his answer. Could he be like me, a wanderer?

Surprisingly, her words struck a familiar chord within him. It was true, he did feel some sort of internal need to wander. Most of it, he thought, was the want for friends. The further across the world he traveled, the more likely he was to meet some who wouldn't look at him funny or call him rude or weird. Perhaps he was just unlucky, but it seemed rather hard for him to make good friends most of the time. "I definitely wouldn't want to waste it!" he agreed with a firm, almost exaggerated and silly nod. "One day I'd like to explore the entire land. I know I've got a lot done already, but it seems like no matter how far I walk, I come across new things and new faces." He almost looked a bit nostalgic. "It's fun to try and find places I've never been."

She smiled at his answer. "That's the beauty of the world. It is our gift from the gods. New places, new people, new things, and most importantly new friends. They're all here for us. It keeps things interesting if we know that there can always be a suprise around the corner. Keeps us on our toes." Meiyo rolled over onto her stomach before standing. She gave a quick shake to dislodge the snow flakes that clung to her fur. "Hey Seriozha, follow me kay? I want to show you something." She dashed a way and in a flash was at the edge of the clearing. She new he was fast from earlier but she was too. This would be fun. "Ready Seriozha! Keep up if you can!"She grinned and looked back at him expectantly, waiting for him to make a move.

For a moment, the excitable male stopped to watch the snow as she shook it from her fur. It was then he realized how cold and wet his paws were. Good thing he was too happy at this point to care much. Ears perked with his curiosity next. "Show me what?" he questioned, but she'd zoomed off before he could even finish the thought. A grin split his maw at that. Oh, she was on! Serio didn't back down from a challenge! Winding up, back legs pushed harshly against the snow covered ground. At first, he could feel himself slipping up a bit, but once he caught his balance, the speedy male's paws were pounding after her. "I hope you're ready!" he called up, eager to begin the game.

She giggled at his clumsy start then bounded off into the forest laughing wildly with the thrill of a challenge. Together her laugh and his eager call mingled in the air: a pleasant echo in the forest punctuated with the patter of footfalls in the snow. It wasn't long before she could feel him at her back, hot in pursuit. Heh, I'll have to kick it into gear if I'm to stay ahead. ...Oh wait I'm supposed to be leading. Ha, that's right I forgot. How silly of me. Serio's challenge has pumped me so full of adrenaline I've forgotten myself. I wonder if he has too. Ha, I'll bet he has! Meiyo took a deep steadying breath and pulled further ahead. She weaved through the maze of trees with seemingly effortless grace. A calm river ran beside her and she was seized by a thoroughly entertaining idea. Her muscles tensed as she ran, energy building. Then instantaneously the energy was released and her sprint became a single clean leap over the river. She landed lightly but slipped and toppled to the side. She felt something give in her right leg and struggled to lift herself. Darn! I got carried away and I landed wrong. I'll just have to ask Serio to help me get to that spot.
