I've been rolling the idea of becoming a piercer around in my head for a while. It has always greatly intrigued me. What kind of schooling does it require? How long to you usually have to go for? What are some good piercing schools?

First, I'm moving this to the Chatterbox, please remember to use the appropriate sub forum when posting a new topic! :3
Second, there is no such thing as an actual 'Piercing School'. Mostly, they are done as an apprenticeship. A professional and certified piercer will take on a 'student' and show them how it's done. The process takes time, anywhere from 6 months to a year depending on how much time the piercer can allow to train their student. The training generally involves implement and equipment knowledge {showing you everything that is required, how to use it, how to sterilize it, what to throw out, where to dispose of it, etc}, as well as studying the piercer as s/he does piercings on customers. You will probably be asked to gather a list of friends and family members who will allow you to practice on them once the time is right. You may even be asked to practice on yourself, though with most things, doing it on other people is not the same as doing it yourself.
You will also be required to take a Blood Borne Pathogens test and pass it. You will then receive a certificate saying you're certified and have knowledge about them. Though this next bit isn't a requirement, it's a handy and useful class to take - CPR and First Aid. You just never know when it'll come in handy, and some future employers will see it as an added bonus in your resume.
Also realize that a piercing apprenticeship in most cases is not free. Prices vary, so ask around for quotes. So if this is something you seem interested in still, just go to various reputable shops and ask to speak to their piercers and talk to them about apprenticeships that their store can offer.
I hope that helps!

I wasn't quite sure where to put this, but I know now.
That was very informative. I imagined that there was an apprenticeship involved, but I wasn't sure if there were some kind of classes also. There are plenty of places near where I live that I could check into. The time frame was much less than I was thinking(about 2yrs).
