Ever since Somalia hit the news, I've been mulling over the possibility of trying to turn it into a Libertarian State. Somalia has been described as a "failed state" in which the Govt has little to no control. In short, it is in anarchy, which is FAR closer to the Libertarian ideal than most places around the world which are becoming more and more socialist. It would be one case where Libertarians want MORE government, not less. Not too much more, of course, just enough to stabilize things.
Unfortunately, the pendulum often swings way too far in the other direction. If their country is going through anarchy and chaos, they are going to overwhelmingly support someone who promises an end to it, even if it means giving them unlimited power to do so. The most successful tyrants (in terms of gaining popular support) have been the ones that played to their subjects' fear of chaos and anarchy.
