"Great, fabulous. So you're saying you actually want me to take this little thing outside?"

Rit spoke into the phone cradled against her ear as the figure inside her arms slowly squirmed to get a better view of the land around them. The little tyke was still so very new and Rit didn't want to take him anywhere, but she had no choice.

So now they were outside and just walking along one of the main roads.

"Behave, okay?"

Milton needed sustenance again, so he was on his way into the city. There was only so much he could carry one place to another by his means of transportation, and he didn't have the ability to grow or create his own food. So the trip was just inevitable, since he didn't plan on starving.

He was walking down one of the main roads, thick bearskin rug rolled up beneath his arm and a wooden rod in the other. He was wearing blue robes today with silver lining, nothing too fancy. He didn't plan on being too noticeable, despite the bear head slapping against his hip.

Secretly, the wizard didn't mind people. He actually didn't care for them one way or another. He just couldn't live near them.

Rit probably would have never even given a second thought to looking at this strange dressed man that was strolling near her (magic wasn't really her thing at all), but something had seemed to catch the eye of the child in her arms so when he made what sounded like a grunt of protest (or interest) she stopped to see what exactly he was pointing at.

"Oh, you're looking at the guy with the weird clothing? You shouldn't point Vox, you'll get your fingers cut off."

Once again the figure in her arms seemed to grunt, this time jerking Rit a little out and closer to the advancing man.

You'll get your fingers cut off. What a thing to say to a child! He was able to catch the tail end of the statement as he drew closer. He was interested.

The child's ferocity to see him made him a little uneasy, however, not at all experienced with children. His mustache twitched as his lips curled slightly inward. "How charming, madam. Luckily, I collect children's eyes, not fingers."

"Eh, oh really?"

Rit's face turned slightly red as she realized this man had heard her little scolding to Vox (a family scolding, her mother used to say that to her too), and she slowly moved her grasp on the child so he could see the man more, as well be seen by the man more.

"He's got pretty eyes then, if you're interested in them. The likes I've never seen before."

Almost at the prompting the small boy in Rit's arms looked up at the mustached man and blinked a few times, his eyes fully coming into view. They were pure black, almost like looking into empty holes, save for a white spiral that probably acted like his iris and pupil all in one.

" . . . man."

The wizard stopped his walking at a comfortable distance from the two, setting his staff down upon the road. It stood straight up by his side even with its pointed end as he took his hand away. Milton stroked his short beard with his now-free hand, his chin tilted somewhat up so he could start down his nose at the boy.

"Indeed," He conceded. He'd never seen the likes either, which might have been saying something seeing as he had little better to do with his time than research. Little did Rit know, the strangeness did pique his scientific curiosity more than he showed.

"What do you call his like?"

Vox squirmed more in Rit's arms as the man actually came closer to them, though he seemed disappointed when he stopped away from the pair and started to make sounded protests of wanting to be let down. Rit obliged but quickly grabbed his hand, trying to prevent him from running off.

"Hm, I'm not too sure. The kiddo came from a cabbage that my brother ordered a long time ago and left with me, so I don't honestly know what it is that he is. My sister has a hunch on what he may be, though it sounds a little ridiculous to be honest."

Her arm swayed back and forth as Vox protested a bit on her grip, wanting to get closer, and for a moment she thought about relenting when the child did manage to slip from her grasp. She called his name quickly but he merely tottered over the to side of the strange man, causing the young woman to fret slightly.

"Vox, get back over here now. You know you're not allowed to be near others."

". . . no."

Milton watched with wary eyes as the child was set down, doing his best to listen to the woman in the meantime. "So it's not yours."

A cabbage. Well, that could mean any number of things or nothing at all. So far as he could tell, there weren't really any limitations to a cabbage's creation powers. Perhaps this kid was some sort of new concoction. "Do tell..."

And now it was wobbling its stubby, strange little form toward him. The man side-stepped slowly as it came closer, frowning distinctly as he made to pull his robe out of the way. His attention was turned down to the little creature. "Well? What do you want?"

He really was not all that experienced with children. Rats, yes. Books, yes. Magic, somewhat. Kids, hell no.

The little child continued to stare at the man with his strange eyes and was about to reach up and touch for him when Rit suddenly came out of no where and grabbed the small hand. It quickly stuck fast to her own, causing Vox to make a grunt of displeasure, but he didn't try to pull it free.

"...I wasn't going to do anything."

He cast his eyes downward and even seemed to scowl, his arm swinging inside Rit's grasp. Around him small little dark spots on the ground seemed to form, their appearance mimicking what would look like water droplets. It wasn't raining, so where had it come from?

"Not doing anything my foot. You're not allowed to go near others, I've told you this."

Well that little statement certainly didn't do anything for his opinions on children. Blue-green eyes narrowed with wariness at Vox, and the wizard dared curl the corners of his lips into a nasty little smile. More like the baring of teeth, really. "Are you a troublemaker, boy?"

The piece of wood beside him seemed to tremble ever so slightly, and Milton became distracted for a second as he glanced over. His fingers once again wrapped around it and his eyes almost immediately fell to the dark spots. His lip twitched.

"No, I'm a man-eater. I don't make trouble."

Vox stared at the man's fingers, as if his mind were working on something heavy in debate, though it looked like common sense won out over whatever else there was when he stopped his gaze.

The dark spots increased to a small ring around the child along, and Rit shook her arm for a moment and relaxed her hand, only to find that Vox's stayed attached and his fingers were not gripping either. It was as if there was nothing to hold them together, but they stuck.

"I don't mean to cause trouble, it just occurs when I get hungry."

Milton didn't know how to blanch like a normal person. Instead it just looked like he sniffed something particularly nasty when the little boy confessed cannibalism. He was torn between intrigue and common sense, the chance to learn something new and will for self-preservation.

"But children, they're so much more tender," He replied in kind, his tone decidedly musing, "And so much more easy to cook at one time. But I digress."

The redhead had never eaten a child in his lifetime, though he was somehow unaffected when the thought passed through his mind. Still, if the little scamp was trying to be suggestive he could play the game too. His gaze was leveled at Rit, clearly expecting something from her, particularly moving the child away from his path. She couldn't feed the kid a goddamn lollipop? Or whatever else they ate...

"No, children don't have enough muscle. It's only in a well-developed adult can you find enough to eat that would properly sustain you."

Vox slowly moved so he was facing Rit, and after a second or two he lifted his arms up like he wanted to be held. For as intelligent as he had been sounding while he spoke, he was still very much a young child and was getting tired of standing. He was also feeling wet and cold, and he wanted Rit to warm him up.

Rit, clearly confused, obliged him by lifting him up and rubbing his head gently.

"I'd ignore half ofd what this kid says. We don't know what's gotten in to him, really."
