"I want to see where the sirens sing Hear how the wolves howl Sail the dead calm waters of the Pacific
Dance in the fields of coral Be blinded by the white Discover the deepest jungle
I want to find The Secret Path A bird delivered into my heart, so
It's not the end Not the kingdom come It is the journey that matters, the distant wanderer Call of the wild In me forever and ever and ever forever Wanderlust.."
The midday sun shone down, warmth starting to return to the earth after a long harsh winter. Laures trotted happily, for once foregoing a chance to stretch his wings and fly to his destination, instead taking the time to feel the earth beneath his hooves, to feel the wind when it blew comb through his mane and caress his body. All in all it was a good day to be alive.
Heading to the forest which was as close to a home as he would accept, he knew he wouldn't stay long as it was merely a starting point for a new journey, he burst forth in joyous song.
His clear, haunting voice rang out shattering the silence of the afternoon. The birds had yet to return, and it was yet too cold for insects to brave and fill the day with their droning, so he sought to fill the silence with his voice.
The song was appropriate for the day, for his feelings, so he didn't care if he should encounter an audience who did not appreciate the music- even if it seemed unlikely that he should meet someone. It just didn't seem a day for strangers to encounter and become if not friends or enemies, aquaintances at least.

The mare trotted happily through the plains, enjoying the warmth of the sunshine upon her back. Days like these were infrequent, especially during the frigid winter months! It was too glorious a day to pass up staying holed up within her parents territory so today Zara planned to take advantage of said warmth. Oh, winter was far from over, but this moment of spring was a great refresher of what would soon come. No more frost, no more snow, and no more dreadful cold! The sun felt good upon her back and the mare was only too happy to enjoy the day while it lasted.
Her hooves delicately pranced through the fields, but it was a voice that caused her ears to p***k with intrigue. Not just any voice, but a song! Now who on earth could be singing? It certainly wasn't anything like her sister, Rupali, and it was definitely that of a male. Still, it wasn't sung poorly which further amused the mare; how long had it been since she met another singer that wasn't part of the family?
Honestly this would be a first.
Pushing her way through the land and over a hill, the source was soon spotted. Green, blue and black seemed to make up the predominant hues of the male, but what surprised Zara even more than his song were the great wings that sprouted form his back. They lacked feathers and leather and looked as delicate as morning dew. Surely this had to be a legend right out of the story books! Her mother, a wandering gypsy, had spoken of such creatures but never would the unicorn have thought she might meet one. Yes, the winged stallion could only be an elusive flutter, and Zara took just a moment to watch.
He held a pleasant voice, and the mare's eyes lit with delight. She listened, memorizing the beat and getting a feeling of the tune. It wasn't too difficult to remember, so without hesitation she allowed her own voice to cry out in song with her own verse.
"I want to love by the Blue Lagoon Kiss under the waning moon Straying, claiming my place in this mortal coil Riding the dolphins Asking the mountains Dreaming Alaska The Earth can have but Earth
I want to find The Secret Path A bird delivered into my heart, So it´s not the end Not the kingdom come It is the journey that matters, the distant wanderer
Call of the wild
In me forever and ever and ever forever Wanderlust Drown into my eyes and see the wanderer See the mirrors of a wolf behold the pathfinder."
Letting her voice die out, the mare stood there, eyes alit with good humor as she watched the flutter. She was a good singer, but was nothing compared to her sister Rupali. Still, her family wouldn't have allowed her to suffer anything but a pleasant voice. Her true love was dancing, rhythm, movement, but for now she'd dabble in song.
With luck she wouldn't scare the stranger away.
((Oooh - Nightwish, good choice! Figured I should finish the song. . . ;3 Sorry luffie, hope you don't mind. *grins* ))

The stallion trotted along oblivious to his surroundings until he heard it. The lilting, dulcet tones of a female voice raised to complete the song he had started. The voice was quite pleasant, and he tilted his head a moment in interest and turned to look in the direction the voice seemed to be coming from.
Standing to the side on a rise in the meadow, he spotted her. A beautiful young-looking unicorn mare. The light lilac of her coat and the even brighter blue of her mane were rather eye-catching.
He was slightly hesitant, after all he had only met one unicorn, and that a foal, so he was still leery of the sharp horn that nature had seen fit to bestow upon them as a natural weapon. But, a combination of his natural geniality and a longing for company, if only for a short while, led him to approach the mare. Though only after the last strains of the song died away.
"A fine day this is, is it not?" Laures fluttered his wings gently.

The mare was pleased that her song captured the stallions attention. And why wouldn't it? She had inherited many fine trats from her parents, and though Rupali had the voice of an angel, Zara could at least sing well.
Her bright eyes studied the stallion, having never seen a flutter so close. Where he had looked intriguing from a distance, seeing him near was incredible. His wings were of the prettiest shade of blue, and they looked incredibly delicate. Part of the mare wondered how they managed to fly but, then again, feathers were just as fragile and winds weren't inhibited to the ground. Perhaps flight fascinated the mare because she had no wings of her own; and though she never wanted wings or felt as if she lacked without them, the idea of flying through the clouds and over the landscape amazed her.
It was one thing to run. . . . but to fly?
Amazing.
Other than the vibrant wings, Zara was pleased that the stallion looked normal in every other sense of the word. Her sisters would absolutely love to hear about this rare meeting, though she wasn't so sure Baldev would be pleased. He never seemed too happy to hear her tales of adventure. . . . but what did he expect? She was a young mare, finally out and on her own - surely he couldn't expect to keep her within the family territory all the time, did he?
Apparently so.
Ah, but Baldev was a million miles away as far as Zara were concerned. She wasn't goign to waste any more time thinking about him; not when there was a new one to meet! Smiling pleasantly, she dipped her head in a cordial bow. No need for her to forget her manners, after all. . .she was a lady. "It is indeed a lovely day. A shame I'm most certain it won't last." Her features crinkled ever so slightly in a mock-pout, glancing up at the sky. "Spring is teasing us, I fear. Winter will be back before you know it!"

Up close, Laures was able to observe that when in the distance, the mare was striking, but closer she was even more so with a light blue and silvery pattern. He openly admired the swirls and delicate pattern. After all, beauty was to be admired in all forms, and it was in no way a hardship to admire her.
She was the first adult unicorn he'd seen, and what would be a small spike on a foal was a lethal weapon on a adult. But instead of seeming frightening which had been his first impression, the spiral just seemed right. And so it seemed he would have to reconsider his views, but right now, as a gentleman, he would need to be respectful of the lady as he had initiated this meeting.
He returned her bow and considered her words. Yes, this lovely weather would likely not last, being the mid of winter, but that didn't mean one couldn't enjoy it while it lasted, and he opened his mouth to say something to that affect.
"The lady is correct. This is rather unseasonable weather, but that doesn't mean one shouldn't just enjoy it while it lasts."

Zara's ears pricked and she felt herself stand just a little taller at his words. The young filly within her was prancing delightedly at the words of the male and she wished that her sisters might have been present to witness. He had referred to her as Lady. And, of course, that was indeed what she was and trying her best to become but. . . . While some might have looked upon her as young, it seemed the flutter before her saw truth; she was very much a lady.
The unicorn mare hadn't had much exposure to stallions. Oh, she'd bumped in to a few now and then as a young filly, and had witnessed many of her friends sprout in to the sort. . . but now that she'd grown it seemed as if her father tried even harder to keep her at home. Safe, he had said, for stallions often weren't up to much good. But the green haired flutter before her seemed perfectly amicable; even more, he acted much like a gentleman of the court!
Surely her father couldn't fault her for conversing with such a classy stallion, could he? So long as he didn't turn vulger or rude, there was no reason she couldn't be amicable at all! Grinning wider, unable to resist from displaying her infectious smile, she allowed her tail to sweep back and forth behind her in pleasure. "Though threat of winter lurks behind every cloud, you are surely correct, my fine sir. Today is a day to be cherished and I shall do my best to enjoy myself." And that was that.
Zara allowed a silence to fall, feeling a little awkward by the lack of introduction. He'd heard her sing, and they'd passed along a snippet of conversation; surely she deserved to learn his name. "Might I humbly request the name of my melodious companion?" She finally encouraged, good humor dancing in her gaze. She wasn't teasing him, Zara had been impressed and delighted to meet a fellow singer.

Pleased that the mare wasn't truly a sour puss, or really one who was willing to ruin this fine day by reminding him that it was still winter and the weather could easily turn, well, he was far more inclined, if it was possible, to stay and chat with the mare who seemed like she would be pleasant enough company. Especially since he had been alone on his travels for quite some time now. Having not encountered anyone to really chat with since that inquisitive colt.... Taigi he thought the foal's name had been. He allowed a simple thought, wondering whatever had happened to the colt, to cross his mind before he noticed the awkward silence.
Laures blushed, a little embaressed that he had once again neglected the most common of social niceities. One of these days he would remember that in order to have a conversation and make friends with others he would need to remember to introduce himself. He ducked his head and pawed the ground just slightly. " My most sincere apologies, Lady, I have been far too long without company that I have forgotten the basic structures of polite society. I pray that you will forgive me this slip in manners," he bowed just slightly as he continued, "My name would be Laures, and if I might be so bold as to ask the Lady what I might call her?"
He smiled slightly, noticing the good-humor in her gaze, but until he had conformation from her lips, that his faux pas was not too horrible, he refrained from returning her smile wholeheartedly. He waited with bated breath for her judgment, shifting his weight from hoof to hoof, wings quivering with anticipation. Ready to leave at once if it were her will, but also prepared to stay.

Though the unicorn had been raised under the firm hoof of her father and mother, she found herself much more breezy than the pair. Though she harbored a great lineage and beauty (both of which she was reminded of daily) the young mare had yet to succumb to extreme vanity and conceit. She had remained rigid in her defense of the 'lessers' around her and was only too pleased to meet strangers of every walks of life. Perhaps it was teenage rebellion but if her parents frowned upon it, Zara found herself wrapped up in it and meeting Laures was no exception. His coat was so different than hers; furthermore, though he harbored no horn or feline tail, he was in possession of two of the prettiest wings she'd ever seen! Mind, he was the first flutter she'd ever come across in the kawani lands, but that didn't make the pattern and bright colour splashed upon him any less endearing.
Being dashed in pink, blue and silver herself, the young unicorn couldn't help but be pleased with her company. The worst thing that could happen with the stranger was walking away with a new story to tell her sisters . . .and wouldn't they be jealous! Her pink eyes were bright with mischief as Laures bowed and apologized; she took note to remember his name and knew she most certainly wouldn't forget his face. "No apologies necessary, my fine sir," she assured gently, offering a bow herself while a broad smile crossed her features. "I promise I won't speak of your err to any - it shall stay strictly between the two of us," she chuckled, tossing him a good natured wink. Perhaps not the most lady-like behavior, but Zara had only recently grown and had yet to truly embrace formality.
"I'm frequently called beautiful, but you may call me Zara," she grinned, making it painfully obvious that her forward conceit held little weight behind the playful jest. "And it truly is a pleasure to meet you, sir Laures. Sadly, I've had the companionship solely of my sisters and parents lately; and though I do enjoy them and their 'polite' society, I am quite pleased to meet a new face in these lands. I pray you're in no rush?" She quirked a delicate brow, her tail dancing idly behind her as well as hoping she wasn't sound too forward. Truly though, a spot of companionship would do her well and to have someone to share the glorious day with sounded fabulous to the mare. With luck, Laures might not find her company too shallow.

After a long and rather strange journey as his had so far been, with company being few and far between, he was grateful that his blunder did not seem too off-putting. And he would be allowed to spend more time with an engaging companion. While aware he was considered to be a little unusual with the company he had met- apparently flutters were not very common- as well as attractive, he truly did not think his appearance to be worthy of comment. Most of his aquaintances were, in his mind far more attractive than he, this mare possibly among the most beautiful in his mind.
Blushing at the mare's words, he shook his head vehemently as he hurried to gently correct her misconception. " Not Sir. No. Just plain, simple Laures."
He laughed slightly at her playful tones. He had not met any mare, or stallion really, who was willing to poke fun at themselves.
"Lady Zara, then. I have just come to the end of a long journey, and find myself not yet ready to move on just yet, so if my company might relieve your boredom for even a short while, I am at M'lady's service."
Truly he was tired from his long journey, of never finding any place worth staying for any period of time, he was happy to find somewhere or rather someone worth staying in a place for a time. His voice echoed with his fatigue - mental rather than physical- as he accepted her gracious invitation.

Zara was pleased with her new found company. Though she had made a few friends and acquaintances outside of her family, Laures was perhaps the first gentleman she had met. He spoke eloquently and certainly seemed to know how to treat a mare, even a stranger such as she! It was, to say the least, strangely refreshing. . . . Oh, she was around such style with her family but all of her friends had been casual. The fact that this stallion had manners similar to her own was comforting. . . . Zara could easily be herself without upsetting her father with 'lowly' and informal manners.
Mind, according her father she would be interacting to one beneath herself; unicorns were the best of the best, according to Baldev, and his daughters ought to always remember their place. She came from a proud family, one that had pure blood running through its veins. It was a bit of a shame she had been raised with such rules; naturally the young mare had felt she needed to break out of her cage and escape, but it wasn't easy, and always harbored consequence.
But Baldev wasn't here, was he, and Zara was a grown mare (albeit young). She would speak to whomever she pleased and today it was going to be this handsome and quite intriguing and polite flutter! "Laures it is," she repeated his name with a little chuckle, her long tails swishing delicately behind her.
"And though I will be the first to admit I come from a proud family, Lady Zara just sounds too formal even for me!" She almost flushed, wanting terribly to be looked upon AS a lady but too young for it to sound natural. "Furthermore," she added, dropping her voice to a soft whisper, "now that you say it it makes me sound old." Her mother could pull off Lady Jaslyn; but Lady Zara? no . . . . she wasn't ready to grow up quite that fast.
Dipping her head a cordial bow, the mare grinned. "A spot of company would do me well this winter day. It's been far too long since I've met any outside my family. . . furthermore, it's been even longer since I've spoke to one who isn't of unicorn descent. Your company shall be a special treat today," she admitted with a grin.

Laures fluttered his wings gently. Until she spoke thus, he had not realized just how young the mare was. Not that he really had much to say, for while he wasn't just out of foalhood, he was still a fairly young stallion. He was often mistaken for much older then he was because of his maturity and mannerisms.
He smiled,"Zara, there is no chance that you might ever be construed as old." He tilted his head as his tail swept behind him. " I must admit that I have not spent much time with those not grounded or of regular blood."
Standing still, Laures started to feel the call of wanderlust in his blood. As enchanting as the mare's company was, he needed to to move, to perform some action, to be. His muscles quivered with this need. His eyes darted to the sky briefly.
"I mean not to be rude, but does the La... excuse me, does Zara have any activities that she enjoys on lovely days such as this?"

The mare chuckled, pawing at the earth as she cast her gaze at the stallion. He too had a seemingly good-natured personality and sense of humor. It delighted her to find such good company. . . and one that tolerated her humor so appropriately! Zara had learned that one must never be a pest upon those they meet; she had to make sure she was humorous and intelligent so she could properly host those traveling near her lands. Honestly, being a bit of a gypsy princess wasn't as fun as it might seem - a lot went in to the title and to be a proper Lady meant she had to be perfect on many layers and levels.
Striving for perfection and actually achieving such a thing were two different tasks all together!
The mare gave her tail a little swish as he spoke, ever cautious of her ridiculously long, curled tail tip. It seemed she had inherited her fathers ridiculously long and fast-growing mane. The curls made it almost impossible to properly tie back like her sisters, and there was no way she could properly keep it from dragging on the ground. She tried, truly, but the world seemed to mock her. No matter how tall she stood or how proud she held her head, her hair cascaded around her feet and ankles. Drinking from a stream was an absolute nightmare and, to make matters worse, she continuously had to be aware of her tail tip! Too often that too dragged and by the end of the day she looked nothing more than a ragamuffin.
It truly was a sad state of affairs.
Her ears pricked as Laures questioned her afternoon activities. Smiling brightly, her eyes glowing with delight, it seemed he touched upon a favored subject. "Actually," she began, giving her a little toss, "this day is the most perfect day to dance." Oh, he probably thought her silly, but he had yet to witness her skills. "It may sound a bit . . silly . . but my whole family is chalk full of talent. My mother can do it all, really, and taught us girls her art. My sister, Miki, can weave words and stories so well you'd honestly think they were true. My other sister can sing beautifully, something I dare say you'd appreciate but I was gifted with the art of movement." Was she proud of this fact? Incredibly so, and why shouldn't she be?
"Would you like to be off, my fine sir? A spot of exploration, a good run over the hills? What is it you like to do?"

The stallion listened in wonder. To be a part of a family that was so gifted... He having heard her sing, was surprised at her saying that there were even more gifted in her family at song. His talents, meagre as they are, tend towards the art of storytelling and at times laughter, though the occasions to practice were few and far between.
He lowered his eyes modestly as he answered. "I've no real talents myself... I enjoy telling stories, and for myself I like to amuse myself on long journeys by singing, though I can only claim to sing passibly. You are blessed to have such talent. Perhaps..." The idea of someone dancing was not something he had ever had the privilege of witnessing in his travels." Perhaps, I might see you dance sometime?"
He shifted from his larger form to butterfly size. He was far too easy to read when he was average soquili size. And by asking this, well, it embaressed him to no end. He caught a chance opening when she asked if he might like to be off. Yes, that sounded rather appealing at this moment in time.
"A bit of exploration does sound rather good right now. Do you know any interesting places around here?"

The mare listened as the flutter before her, surprised by his modest response. It surprised her that he claimed to posses no true abilities, and though the mare understood some weren't quite as gifted as her lines, surely there was something he could do. His voice had been more than passable, albeit perhaps not quite trained or so her ears had told her. With a little work there was no reason he couldn't fancy himself a great singer.
Still, the young mare couldn't help but smile, her eyes lighting brightly. "You contradict yourself then, my fine sir," she chuckled, taking out any bite one might find within her words. "My sister is a story teller, and I have heard you sing with my own ears. Though you may not feel yourself a talented individual, I dare say you're mistaken with such judgment."
As far as the mare were concerned, she was right, he was wrong and there would be no further argument. As Laures mentioned dancing the mares expression brightened immediately.
Unlike her sister, Rupali, Zara harbored no objections when it came to performing in front of others. She was confident within her moves, and knew that she could walk with the grace of angels. All right, so maybe she was a little over confident with herself but one could hardly blame her. Her family had taught her time and time again how good they were, how pure they were, and how they must always be the best. Such praise wasn't mere lip service, there were grains of truth with in such talk; Zara had worked long and hard, under strict supervision and ever cautious of her fathers disapproval to become a fabulous dancer. . . .
She couldn't afford to be anything other than wonderful.
"I would love to dance for you," she agreed, giving her tail a little wag in pleasure. Mind, the mare was still learning how to deal with her waves of hair. . . even after dealing with it for so long, she had found that the long locks would seemingly always misbehave. "Just tell me when and where and it shall be done." Dipping herself in to a courtly bow, Zara couldn't help but laugh.
Such formality. . . . but such was the way she'd been raised.
It amazed the mare that a soquili could shrink and she had never witnessed such a display. It was . . . . rather fascinating, really, but Zara did have enough tact not to stare. Turning her head, she neatly tucked a few misplaced strands of hair before peeking around for the rather small flutter. "Well, I know of a nearby lake that might be melted enough to drink from; or if you prefer to go on a longer journey there are a few frozen waterfalls and possible ice caves. . . . Though," she added with a little grin, "I'm unsure just how 'frozen' anything might be this day."

The flutter was grateful that his coloring was as dark as it was and he hoped that the mare wouldn't notice. But now that he was shifted to his far more comfortable size, he could likely hide his emotions from her. He was not used to such praise from anyone, though there were some vague feelings attached to his forgotten memories which suggested that this wasn't quite accurate, and that at one point in time he was highly praised for something.
He watched her face brighten and couldn't help but smile at her enthusiasm. She was truly passionate about dancing, so his impertinance in asking to see her must not have been offensive. He sighed internally, he hated to offend anyone for any reason. And while he longed to see her dance as it was something new to him, he felt that as a stranger it would be beyond improper to ask her to indulge him just yet. He was, after all, raised to be beyond impropriety, to be a gentleman in every sense of the word. He answered her courtly bow with a rather graceful (if he did say so himself) aerial flip as it was next to impossible to bow while remaining in the air.
"With regret, perhaps not this day, but someday I would love to see you dance."
When she mentioned the frozen waterfalls and ice caves as being close enough for her to journey with him, he couldn't help but be interested. Here were two more sights he'd not yet encountered. The ennui he had started to feel while travelling, all places and things starting to appear the same, disappeared. How many other new sights and ideas might he be introduced to by this engaging mare he'd chanced to encounter this day when he'd held no expectations of anything of the sort.
" Ice caves ? I've never seen one before. That sounds like something to see..."
