North Riverside | Den Site:
User Image

An obvious foundation abandoned many decades back by the two-legged creatures. A large dwelling lay carved out from two large rock formations, quite possibly a former gathering place for the two-legged creatures now serves as the main den site for the wolves of the area. The rooms are large enough to host a large number of wolves, protected from the elements, and protected by the river. It's an ideal area for raising young pups or weathering out storms. Nearby an old worn-down bridge still stands. A large chunk of the center boards are missing but a careful wolf could cross it by moving around the sides easily enough. The third rock formation might have been a watch point or a location to pray to whomever the odd two-legged creatures worshiped, now it serves as a watching point for the wolves and a roost for the crow. The top of the formation stands close enough to the den's roof so an adolescent wolf would have no problem moving from one formation to the next.

They picked up early, with the heat of the rising sun on their backs, and headed for densite. They were still on the packlands, safe, but it was a good run to the den site. 'Eeza was still feeling strange as she had the night before, and the night before that.

They had been on the trail for a while, though the day was still early. Naf was tired and hungry. Most of all, she was eager to get back because she knew Keefe was waiting to talk to Fea, their alpha.

Keefe hadn't gotten much sleep the last night. As usual, something was worrying him, hopefully, Fea could clear his mind. He was starving, hadn't eaten since before he set out to find Nafeeza, but he pushed his needs aside, all that mattered now was finding Feanaro and finding an answer. It felt good to be back on the packlands, the mountain looked especially beautiful during the winter. Keefe took a deep breath of the familiar scent of his home and smiled lightly to himself.

With a sigh, Keefe nuzzled Nafeeze lightly before pausing midstep and raising his head to let out a howl. It was a loud howl this time, one for Feanaro, letting him know what his two betas were home and that they needed his guidance.

Feanaro helped himself to another mouthful of the young doe's belly, throwing his head back to swallow the chunk nearly whole. Licking his bloody maw clean of he blood he watched as his carrion birds feasted on the less desireable bits of the doe's insides. They were perfectally content with the meat- so long as their bellies were full. Khalaria never did enjoy red meat... she had grown up to be much smaller than an average female because of her all-fish diet and it concerned the masked wolf slightly... so long as she was eating he supposed.

A sudden howl disrupted the large murder, scattering the more skittish ones from their meal. The wolf paused, canting his head to the side to listen to the incoming message. "Ahh... they're returned." He turned from his kill and took in a deep breath, letting out his haunting but powerful howl to announce where he was. A few more of the crows scattered with a burst of caws and the frantic clapping of dark wings. It seemed his howl always came with such sounds recently.

Though 'Eeza trusted her alpha, she had never been completely comfortable around him. He was and always had been Keefe's friend. She knew how much Feanaro's opinion mattered to her mate. So, taking the opportunity to step away now that they were home, 'Eeza decided she would make herself useful.

"Keefe, I'll let you talk to Fea. I'll go see if I can find some food."

She smiled and nuzzled Keefe beforing turning and heading off into the woods. She called over her shoulder to him "I'll be careful!" She knew he'd worry anyway.

Keefe's dark ears perked to the familiar howl, Fea was close. As he began to move, Nafeeza went the other direction. His heart was torn, over such a small thing even, he wanted to be with her, but he needed to talk to Feanaro. With a weary sigh, the male nodded. She'd be safe here, the packlands belongs to the pack alone.

With that thought, Keefe took off in the direction of Feanaro's howl and within a few minutes, he had reached him, a murder of crows, and a carcass of a deer. His turned to look over his shoulder to where Nafeeza had just gone, there was food here... But no matter, he couldn't go chase after her now. With a wag in his tail and a light bow to his head, Keefe greeting his alpha,

"Cheif, we're home, I found her..."

Khalaria also heard the distant howl from where she'd been lounging in the sunlight atop the main den. Her belly facing the sun and her paws curled contently into her chest, the young female couldn't be more pleased with the world. In winter, the valley saw little to no snow- the air was still cold but not nearly as cold and bitter as the weather through the mountain or out in the freelands would be. The sheltered valley was perfect for year-round fish which more than pleased the female alpha. She's never fully been able to quite belly the concept of eating red meat... it just seemed too brutish.

With a yawn she rolled herself to her side and looked about, blinking the sleep from her eyes.

Feanaro licked up his maw a bit more, trying to make himself as presentable as possible as his general approached. He lifted his head up a bit as Keefe approached, the releaf and pride could not be hidden from his features. "Aaah.... very good, I had prayed for the both of you to return safely."

A releaf indeed... he had feared something had happened to the young female alone out there in the wild lands. His pack was not one looked favorably upon by the inferior packs... monsterious barbarians the most of them. Already one had attacked his adopted son- that would be paid back in time.

"Come... the pass is wearing on a wolf's body. Eat your fill." He nodded towards the corpse.

Honestly, 'Eeza couldn't get away fast enough. Not simply because she was hungry, though. But she was in the woods now, and free to forget all about that. She had seen and smelled a kill when they had gone to the den, so she knew she didn't need to worry about feeding Keefe and or her alphas. She would bring him back a snack, just in case.

For now, she was looking for prey. She'd had a rabbit the night before. Was that on the menu for breakfast?

A wide smile spread on Keefe's maw as he came even nearer Feanaro. That deer was looking mighty tasty to the starved wolf, but being the frank animal that he was, he had to get to the bottom of Nafeeza's problem before indulging himself. With a sigh, the male moved over to the deer and looked down for a while before looking to his leader,

"There's something wrong with Nafeeza, and I don't know what to do. She's different, smell much different, I-I can't put a paw on it... Says being close to me isn't enough" Keefe narrowed his eyes in thought, trying to remember if he had left anything out, "Can you help her? I'm at a loss..."

Feanaro's brow creased slightly as he listened, moving himself to lay himself down a bit behind Keefe, allowing the beta his space to the kill. "What... seems to be the trouble?" He remembered a time when he had felt unwell, smelt differently, behaved differently. It was an illness that had driven him wildly mad. He had longed for wolf flesh, and in those weeks he had gained the reputation that still filled the freelands with hatred for him and any associated with him.

"This worries me... I will do everything I can, but I must know all you know first..."

Keefe sighed in a troubled way, he wasn't sure how he should put it. Perhaps Feanaro didn't know? The dark male quickly dismissed that thought, his alpha knew everything. Once again, the purple wolf collected his thoughts,

"She's awful clingy, and the new scent, it's not a bad one... It drives me crazy, I don't know how to describe it... I love her Cheif, and I told her, she was so happy..."

Keefe stared out into space, his words fading slowly. He was once again, at a loss for words. The male huffed, wishing he could word his feelings more properly.

"Aaahhh...", the wolf sighed in releaf, chuckling a bit, "Well my boy it sounds as though the young pup has become a young wolf... and she seeks the more... intimate touch of a male... if you can understand what I mean." He got to his feet, moving over beside Keefe, leaning his shoulder against that of the dark male, "It is nearing the season to produce young... a female's body is more in sync with this time of year than ours is. When her body tells her that it is time to be a mother, she becomes more needing of her mate."

Keefe's ears pressed back and his jaw dropped open a little as Feanaro spoke. He was in a light state of disbelief. He blinked a few times, closing his mouth and looking to Feanaro next to him,

"Ho-Wha--Wow... I wouldn't've guessed..." or maybe he would've, his hormones would have gotten to the best of him, "Good thing she's ok though... I was starting to think something was wrong"

All of the sudden Keefe got rather nervous, he didn't know what to do with himself. He'd have to go find Naf and tell her, but first, the bleeding deer before him was too much of a temptation to turn down. With a lick of his chops, Keefe's pace of mind went from the female he so loved to the hunk of raw meat before him, forgetting much of everything as a carnivorous trance took over. He had been quite hungry, it was a relief to eat again.

Feanaro smiled as re-assuringly as he could, stepping back to his spot in the pine needles to lay himself down. "I think, Keefe, that she has an eye for you..." The young wolf was strong, loyal, and brave... she truely couldn't have picked a better mate of all the woods. Poor thing... he hadn't eaten in quite a while judging by his mad hunger for the doe. It was winter afterall, the valley was fortunate to have a way for keeping the good warmth and prey within its trecherous walls.

The wolf sighed in releaf, waiting quietly for his beta to finish his meal.
