Who: Wit, Zul & Alex
When: Early afternoon
Where: Sports Co, a sporting goods shop
Weather: Warm-ish

"I'm sorry."

"I know. Don't worry about it."

The conversation had gone something like that for the past three hours. Alex would smile at her charge, gently ruffle the spikey hair in an attempt to impart some comfort. The Raevan would give her the worst set of puppy-dog eyes she'd seen since Sevilin, look a spot hopeful and pleased at the touch, and fall into a somber silence to consider why they were heading towards the specialty business. Minutes would pass, and he would apologize again, the cycle continuing.

She understood that he was a growing Frei, a child of sorts, and as any child he was often curious about certain things. One of the more prevailing curiosities he hadn't yet sated was his own limitations, the powers he could wield. They weren't great or in abundance, but with concentrated effort, Zul had discovered he could melt just about anything, and similarly freeze things over. It was during one of his experiments in melting that he had gotten a hold of Alex's cliff-scaling gear, something she had often told him had to be strong enough to support her weight, and turned it into molten scraps.

Initially, she'd been angry. That stuff wasn't cheap, and it had been fitted to her specifically - there weren't many women of her height and build on the planet, which may have been a blessing in disguise - and thus replacing it would be both difficult and expensive. The anger had dissolved quickly at the sudden understanding of wrong doing on his face, the absence of his smile that left her somewhat guilty of her own anger. She wasn't sure how she felt guilty that he destroyed her items, but that was how it had happened.

Then the awe had set in. He was truly a powerful being, an entity of untapped potential that she had come to adore. Alex settled into a feeling of numb surprise after the initial explosion of reactions, content to soothe her charge when he stirred, otherwise tapping her fingers over the wheel of her truck as she thought about the heap of melted vinyl, metal and plastic that was left on her patio.

It was how the two found themselves in Sports Co, standing in front of the halter gear, the lean Italian slipping them on and off. It should have been embarrassing for her, trying to fit the straps and buckles over her ample chest and strong abdomen, but it was business and therefore she did her task with a calculating, serious expression. The buckles snapped beneath her bosom, and she sighed, "Why do all these companies assume that the only women who are into sports are the size of my pinky? Damn."

"Damn?" the Frei floating near by repeated, bright blue eyes watching his woman with mild interest. It was curious to see her growl and wheeze with the different restraints, watching how each of the contraptions made satisfying clicking and zipping sounds. He rather liked that. Zul inched closer, reaching out a gloved hand to tug at one of the straps on her shoulder, frowning his disapproval as he tried out the strange word again. "Too damn tight."

She would have flailed if she wasn't struggling to pop the clasp. "Don't say that," she muttered, loosening one of the straps. "It's a bad word."

"You say it." The Raevan lookd over Alex curiously. "If it's bad, why do you say it?"

"Oh for f-...uh, goodness sake." Alex huffed, a little flushed in the cheeks. "It's a negative expression." She knew she couldn't tell him not to say it when she slipped so often, so a compromise was necessary. "Don't say it in public honey, it's not polite."

Ah, not polite. Zul could appreciate that, as he often strived to be polite in the very least. It always garnered such interesting responses out of people. "Okay," he agreed, withdrawing his hand to idly tug at his opposite glove.

"...sorry."

"I know."

Wit had yet again escaped his doting 'babysitter'. Dweian was a lovely individual, and meant all the good in the world by looking after his best friend and sometime employer...a fellow who was, as the Cheshire Cat might put it 'not all there'. There wasn't really anything wrong with Wit Fluteriousllae, mind, he was simply very content with himself, and the way he lived life, and if a childlike mindset kept the darker parts of memory behind bars, then all the better.

Now, Dweian had made the very large mistake of attempting to get Wit involved in some sort of hobby, not only encouraging it, but coaxing the other to do some researching into the world of sports. And that, was when the blond fae halfbreed had discovered 'paintball'. Not only did it appeal to his competitive nature, but also to his sense of creativity. There was now two whole rooms in the House Fluterious devoted to Wit's new sport. One was nothing but white walls and various colors of violently splattered paint, the other was a veritable maze of boxes, fake greenery, and dim lighting, all so that Wit could have his own private war. Usually at Dweian's expense.

However, a terrible tragedy had occurred today. Wit had run out of ammunition. Not that he was going to tell Dwee, oh no, he would let the other skulk around the house in an attempt to avoid being sniped betwixt bookshelves, while Wit himself was on a merry outing to remedy his deficit in the private arms race.

There weren't a great many places in the area in which he could buy paintballing equipment, especially in large quantities, and Wit never did anything halfway. So here he was, dressed casually today, for Wit at least, in jeans, a slightly loose black tank top, and a sleeveless long coat in a rather preposterous shade of magenta. The ever-present top hat was still in place, leaning dangerously to the left as though it might topple at any moment, but naturally, it never did.

Distraction, however, was not only a part of Wit's life, but a welcomed tidbit created to spice up the daily routine (it could be argued that it WAS his daily routine) and so, the quest for artistic ammo had been momentarily discarded by an array of adorably shaped, squishable creatures lauded as 'stress reducers'.

The blond was more interested in the way that their eyes popped out if you squeezed them hard enough.

Humming softly to himself, he then chucked one at the top boxful of them, only to have half of them come tumbling down at him. Quite unprepared for the barrage, he made a most undignified yelping sound, nearly tripping over three or four of them in his attempt to escape, and grabbing onto the shelving for dear life. Which...only made more of them come hurtling down.

Oh wonderful. He really hoped he wouldn't have to buy them, Dweian was already unimpressed with the teddy bear collection.

The harness was secure, that was for damn sure. She sighed, taking a moment to stretch her cramped fingers when the aisle in front of them seemed to collapse.

Alex was moving before anything hit the ground, running down the hiking and spelunking gear area, hand extending to catch the side of the shelf to spin her around. Feet skid into the next aisle, catching the brief sight of blonde hair before it a fresh wave stress relievers and other little novelties cascaded down. At least the shelf hadn't fallen. Yet. The woman reached out to gently take the gentleman's bare elbow, both to support him and tug him out of the avalanche.

It wasn't a danger, thank goodness, and perhaps because of that the woman wore a wide grin. The irony of being buried under stress relievers had not been lost on her, and she had to keep from giggling. "Wow, ah, are you...you okay?"

A lot less ruffled by the noises and the prospect of danger, the Raevan floated curiously after his woman, long fingers drawing along the shelves and item there with mild disinterest. He rounded the corner in time to watch the female pull the... Zul blinked. Was that female or male? It was tall and long light colored hair like a lady, but something about the lanky frame seemed to indicate it wasn't a woman.

Was it even human? He warmed instantly at the sight of the markings over the man's eyes and the elongated ears, absently touching the inverted pentagram on his own brow. Not human? Baby blue eyes flicked over the covered legs. Not Raevan? Zul followed his woman's inquiry with an innocent one of his own. "What are you?"

Moments before he thought he would have to succumb to the wave of evil (as they were no longer so very cute) little squish-balls and go hurtling to the floor in a sign of defeat, he felt a hand on his arm, and steadied, he plucked one of the stress relievers from the rim of his top hat, and squeezed the caricatured puppy until it made a wheezing sound. Yes you better holler uncle you sorry little bugger.

Bright green eyes flicked to the woman and her charge, and he managed to look mildly mortified before his usual brilliant smile eclipsed any embarrassment he might have been feeling. "Indeedlie. This one is to be being just fine, dearie-dee, if a mite inclined-like to declare war on thises and it's squishy-ish brethren." Another vengeful squeeze of the puppy, the eyes and tongue now out so very far it looked like they were going to pop off at any given moment.

Taking a moment to focus on the second of his two 'rescuers', his interest quite instantly piqued upon taking in Zul's rather exotic appearance. Well well well, so she had one of them too. Oooh right, the question. "This one is a halfbreed. Vampiric fae, is what it is to be being turning out to be." Raevans were, from what he understood, somewhat childlike, at least the ones that he'd observed, even if only from a distance.

Surrounded as he was by small round enemies, he tipped his hat to the both of them, instead of giving a more formal bow, as was his norm. "Pardons being, this one is Wit. Wit Fluteriousllae. A pleasure to be meeting ye and thy Raevan." Though his speech was convoluted and almost childish at times, his voice was almost musically lilting, refined. He'd been a real puzzle at court.

This really was a spot of luck, bumping into someone with a Raevan in her charge. He'd just have to behave himself. She likely wouldn't appreciate being peppered with questions by an absolute stranger.

Alex blinked. There was precious little else she could do in the face of someone who spoke like they walked out of an Alice in Wonderland book. Before she could stop herself, she felt her lips pulling into another high grin, somewhere between amazed and entertained. "That's...that's good...I think," she added the last part quietly, shoulders trembling with mirth.

The demonic Frei floated a little closer as the man explained what he was and gave a name; Zul was fairly certain the language used wasn't entirely English. Tilting his head, the Raevan smile broadly, eyes blue enough to rival the sky taking in the visage and appearance of the merry man. "A vampiric fae named Wit," he repeated slowly. "Zul," he pressed his gloved palm to his partial-chest, returning the bow as best as he could with his ribbon impeding the whole 'bending' process. His attention moved briefly to his woman. "What is?"

The smile had frozen and deteriorated, but not in a bad way; the Italian found herself warring not to inspect this strange new creature with fascination that she could barely keep contained. Somehow, she wasn't surprised that the enigmatic man was familiar with Raevans, nor could she fault Zul for his apparent intruige in the other.

Her green eyes flicked between Wit and her charge, "A vampire is an immortal being who requires an essence of life to live themself. Faes are a race of magical beings, if I'm not mistaken. I can't say I've ever met one, nor would I have imagined the honor of both. Alex Vizcatti, a pleasure to meet such a valiant soldier against the softer species." She inclined her head in greeting, and while she would have tried to bow to keep with formalities, the harness was making sure to afford her no such luxury.

Zul turned immediately back to Wit with his new-found knowledge. A non-human! Certainly, he had an unquenchable curiosity for humans themselves, but this one looked human while looking similar to himself. "Your last name?" he inquired, wanting to hear it again. He wouldn't even try to recall it, other than it sounded like something between a butterfly and an exotic instrument.

Well that, naturally, would make sense, as Wit was nothing if not an avid fan of Through the Looking Glass, and in some of his peculiarity, had naturally adopted a few things into his eccentricities that he had liked, straight from the books and into everyday life. In his current frame of mind, after all, he could really care less what one's everyday passer-by thought of him. Shame on them for not getting to know him.

Dipping in a bow and dipping hat again to the Raevan solely this time, fangs flashed in his smile, genuinely and obviously overjoyed to be making the Frei's acquaintance. "Zul...a fitting nameses it is to be being. A proper naming, important it be." It was hard to catch the interest of both Raevan and guardian, and the blond was secretly basking in it. If he didn't adore attention, he most certainly would not be so wondrously flamboyant.

"Quite happy, Miss Alex, this one is. Would not have thoughtses to be having the fortune to meet with such as you two so very soon either, though this one has been desiring suchly for some timeses now."
Another polite dip, "And a valiant soldier I is." A wink of a cat-like green eye. "This one, quite obviously, conformses muchly less to the vampiric profiles, yesly so. Blood is to be being a luxury, not a requirement for the Wit."

Wrinkling his nose at the Raevan's final question, he laughed softly, a low, almost melodic sound, a fragment of his heritage on his mother's side. "Fluteriousllae, a denotation of House Fluterious. Wit be the last scion of it." Somehow he didn't sound particularly depressed about that otherwise sober fact, but yet, neither was he proud.

"May the Wit ask what the both of ye are doing at this wondrous place?"

The woman could not help the fit of giggles that escaped her. She could hear Wit clear as day, but she had to rearrange some words and think on others before she could really understand him - and yet, he made perfect sense. How one could speak like that so fluently was beyond her. His comment on names made Alex smile just a little, if not only for the impression his own name left.

Zul, on the other hand, was in all his glory of compliments and intruige. Bone-framed wings spread and rest upon his back anxiously, betraying his curiosity of the fae-man. "You would be good," he informed Wit on his interest of being a Guardian, "you're..." The demonic Frei bit his bottom lip, blue eyes ticking side to side as he searched for an adequate word. "...cool."

Alex was a little relieved her charge missed most of the implications, but she knew the male Raevan was entirely too fascinated to draw a line between the object of interest and something ill or dangerous. "That's remarkable," she commented softly to the man, fingers lifting to dig into the harness below her bosom to unhitch the clasp. The last question made her chuckle, indicating the black straps on her tank top, "My old cliff-scaling equipment met a grisly end, so we're trying to replace it until I can get a new set made."

"Sorry," Zul replied immediately, some of his mirth fading...but only for seconds, as he was again enthralled by the name of the fae-man and his most odd manner of speech. "Flor-tear..." he murmured to himself, trying to recall the name and remember it. And sigh-on? What the heck was that? He hadn't met someone who had posed so many questions since...since he met his woman, really. It was a good line to draw for him, tapping his fingers with each syllable to memorize the last name in favor of forgetting their purpose.

"And you?" the Italian asked politely, restraining her laughter at Zul's deep concentration. "Or were the squishy ones your goal?" She gave the harness an irrate glance, and it seemed enough to unhook the first strap, allowing her some breathing room. If she ever met the idiots that designed these things, she'd pop them in the nose for all of humanity.

A happy little thrum of pleasure ran through the halfbreed when Zul praised him. No matter that the Raevan was still a 'youngster' of sorts, if he thought that Wit would make a good guardian for one of his kind, then perhaps his own Raevan would think he was 'cool'. "Thankee, Zul, this one is terribly happies youses are of suchly an opinion!" And in truth, he found the frei's mannerisms quite endearing, adorable even.

Gaze flitting then to examine the equipment that currently was entangled about the woman's frame. "Oh dears...accident, there was to be being?" He trilled, his eyes darting from the Raevan to Alex. "Happenses in youth, they say..." A smile tugged at the edges of his lips, obviously somewhat bemused by what he was assuming had occured. Raevans had powers, of that he was aware, and Zul's particular area of expertise seemed not over-hard to at least surmise upon.

The frei's attempt at repeating his name catching his ears, he grinned widely, "Fluteriousllae. Think thus - Flute, tear, the last half of serious, and the rest is easylike!" He purred in glee, childishly amused by the other's fascination. Goodness but this entire meeting was proving to be utterly wondrous, better than he might have asked for, his curiosity awakened only further by this lovely lady and her Raevan charge.

Mind deterred for a moment at mention of the squishies, he nudged one of them gingerly with a toe. "No indeedlie! This one was here to be acquiring ammunition for this one's grand paintballingnessness. Is new hobby." He gave a finger-waggle for emphasis, seeming pleased with himself now that his mind had tracked all the way back around to the real reason he'd come to this place.

Alex knew damn well the man had said much more, but once he said 'paintballingnessness,' the Italian dissolved into giggles, completely unable to stop herself. He was so serious and yet nonsensical at the same time! It was no wonder Kyou had entrusted this enigma to be a Guardian, although the woman had to admit a grand scope of curiosity when it came to the man-vampire-faerie himself. The stories he could tell...!

"I," she took a quivering breath, grin broad and threatening to spill into laughter again, her mirth trickling through in small sounds in her voice, "I see! That's...wow, that's one heck of a hobby. I never was very interested in-" The zoologist's shoulders shook merrily before she could utter the final word. "-paintballing." Green eyes were vivid with her glee, momentarily forgetting the harness in favor of the odd but delightful meeting. "Forgive me for saying, Wit, but you don't strike me as the type to go on such excursions. You must be fearsome in battle."

She'd try to imagine him in paintball gear, but she was afraid she'd start crying with laughter.

The smile the demonic Frei wore was wide and as warm as the smoldering scrap of halter left at his Guardian's home. "Happy to say it," he borrowed Alex's retort for compliments, bone wings spreading and rubbing together behind his head in a pleased manner. At the askance of an accident, the Raevan nodded with a deep, solemn expression, but managed to keep from spilling another 'sorry' from his lips, instead glancing side-long at his grinning Guardian. If she could forget it, even with that contraption around her chest, then maybe he could too.

"Flutes, tears, serious back halves and easy like restages..." Zul muttered softly, either completely serious or trying to pick up on the man's pattern of speech. "Alix, why isn't your name so..." Fingerless gloved hands rose into the air, fingers curling after his palm as if seeking the word in a near flailing manner.

"Elaborate?" she offered, to which she was rewarded with a knowing nod. "I'm not part Fae Zul, but perhaps Wit would be kind enough to offer a name for you if you're so interested." Even if Wit chose not to humor her eager charge, she knew she'd be laughing over this encounter with great fondness for weeks to come.

The dark-skinned male turned back to Wit, and were it possible, his eyes grew large and his smile turned into something hopeful and near pathetic; the demon gave his best puppy-dog look, only distantly aware that Alex had burst into another round of laughter and was covering her face.
