If you've been asked to, or just feel like playing a villain (pre-made or otherwise), feel free to choose one from this list if you don't have the time or gumption to come up with another character. I hate to use the word villain...I prefer antagonist since each villain is still the hero in their own story. They're not all malicious or wicked...many are simply misguided or feel they have no other means to achieve their goals apart from selfishness and brutality. These characters are all here for the taking. None are designed specifically to further the plot in any way apart from doing what antagonists do best; causing problems for the PCs. smile

Since Impossibles is de-regulated, I find it easier to allow those with enough role-playing experience (and prior approval) to play exceptionally powerful villains; after all, antagonists should be more powerful than the main characters to provide a suitable challenge (because if Magneto was a puss, it would be no big thing for the X-men to kick his a** every time he showed up). Therefore, some of these characters are quite powerful.

If you pick one of the following characters, it will be noted in this section. If you prefer to create your own origina villain, please post their profile in the Character Profiles section.

Players who wish to play as antagonists may create their own or pick from any of the pre-fabricated villains listed here. You can even create plot-specific villains if you and I work something out. I'm all for letting this RP be more player driven than the others are. So with that...happy villainizing. smile

User ImageName: "Rook"
Age: Unknown. Guessed to be in his mid-thirties.
Height: 6'4
Weight: 155
Hair: Dirty blond
Eyes: Red
Ethnicity: East European
Occupation: Criminal, thug for hire

Powers: Durability: Rook is exceptionally durable and can take vast amounts of punishment before falling. While not truly invulnerable, he can take far more damage than other post-humans, even those in peak physical condition. He has been known to get up after being run over by a semi-truck, walk after suffering multiple stab and gunshot wounds, and has even survived in the heart of an explosion.

Adaptation: Paired with his great stamina and capacity to take one on the chin, Rook's power of Adaptation allows him a limited form of invulnerability. Simply put, the same trick will never work on him twice. Once Rook has been exposed to a certain type of damage (a fist to the face, for instance), he becomes invulnerable to that specific stimulus...those who would engage him must vary their tactics with each attack if they hold any hopes of besting him. And given his great durability, such a task is imposing even for the most creative tacticians.

Origin of Powers: Rook is a mutant by birth and damn proud of it. He takes every opportunity to lord the origin of his powers over any "lesser" post-humans he encounters

Skills/Talents: Having lived his entire life on the streets, Rook is extremely streetwise, talented in the art of misdirection, fast-talking, and using subterfuge to get his way. When all else fails, he's certainly not above intimidation. In fact, he's quite fond of it. Rook is skilled with a lock-pick, can steal in plain sight, and has a strong knowledge of who's who among criminals.

Weakness: Though Rook makes himself out to be invincible, he can only hold a limited number of invulnerabilities at one time. Once he has reached this limit, he can either achieve no more invulnerabilities or must give up the least recent one he acquired. His invulnerabilities also leave him each time he sleeps, forcing him to start each day fresh.

On top of that, he has a temper, a predilection towards rash, violent action, and a problem with authority which has landed him in hot water with more than one employer and made him quite a few enemies in the process.

Background: The criminal known as Rook doesn't talk about his upbringing with anyone. He grew up on the streets, running away from the orphanage that his mother gave him up to almost as soon as he was able to walk. He once worked for the mob, rising in the ranks as he grew into adolescence from pick pocket to messenger to drug runner to low-ranking enforcer. When his powers manifested, he gave up the thug life to start an empire of his own. Unfortunately, his lack of business talent and his short-sighted nature caused this endeavor to fail from panning out. From there he went mercenary, hiring himself out to the highest bidder. Among super-human law enforcement agencies, he is a well-known offender, though he is not currently on any "most wanted" list due to his slippery talents for exploiting the limitations of the legal system.

Name: "Sync"
Age: 18
Height: 5'2
Weight: 118
Hair: Black with white streaks
Eyes: Brown
Ethnicity: Caucasian
Occupation: Tracker

Powers: Power Mimicry: Sync has the ability to imitate the powers of any superhuman in the nearby vicinity (within 1 mile), perfectly replicating every nuance of their powers for as long as she remains near to them.

Power Tracking: Because of her power, Sync is also able to track down nearby superhumans. She cannot pin-point their location, but she can get a general sense of where they may be; this aspect of her powers works much like one's sense of smell. She gets impressions and faing "scents" which get stronger the closer she draws to the source. This aspect of her power also allows her to determine exactly what the target's powers are, their limitations, and how powerful they can potentially become.

Origin of Powers: Like all of Omni's followers, Sync is a post-human by right of birth.

Skills/Talents: Sync doesn't have much in the way of utility skills and for this, she feels inferior to other members of her team. She is, however, a creative individual and spends much of her free time painting landscapes or still-life portraits. She has basic knowledge of French and secretly dreams of moving to Paris to become an artist.

Weakness Sync can only assume the abilities of one post-human at a time and when she does, it's not guaranteed that she'll be able to control this person's abilities. Each superhuman is different and though she has learned to accurately control the powers she assumes from her close team members, she is not so adept at improvising control over the powers of strangers unless theirs are similar to abilities she's used to having. She cannot mimic technology based powers or hope to best a non-powered individual with more combat training by herself.

She is also very insecure and rarely voices her opinions, instead opting to "go with the flow". She lacks courage and confidence, dislikes Eden and disagrees with Omni but would never let on even a hint that she felt this way; the only reason she stays is because of her brother, Zanzibar, and the fact that she doesn't feel like she fits in anywhere else in the world. She is shy and rarely speaks unless spoken to.

Background: Sync and Zanzibar were born Megan and James Howell. Their parents were outspoken mutant rights activists who were accidentally killed in a protest some time before the 7 Day War. The children were sent off to live with their aunt, an abusive woman who exploited the children for her own gain. After his powers manifested, James took his sister and ran away from home...it was only a few days later before Megan discovered she had the same abilities as James (or so she thought). The two returned to their old home in Empire City and sought out some of their parent's old pro-mutant friends who turned out to be post-humans themselves. They informed the children that an inevitable war was coming in which post-humans would rise up and create a peaceful world. They spoke of a great superman named Omni who had shared his ideals with them and from that point on the two have counted themselves among the Choosen.

User ImageName: "Zanzibar"
Age: 20
Height: 6'0
Weight: 165
Hair: Black (white)
Eyes: Brown
Ethnicity: Caucasian
Occupation: Soldier

Powers: Density Control: Zanzibar has complete control over the density of his own body; and not just his body as a whole, but specific body parts down to the very tips of his fingers. By increasing his density, he becomes an immovable object, capable of smashing through walls, crushing the ground like a canonball, or resisting great quantities of damage. By decreasing his density, he can pass through solid matter and become weightless enough to simulate levitation.

Origin of Powers: Like the rest of the Choosen, Zanzibar was born a mutant.

Skills/Talents: Zanzibar is physically fit, naturally athletic, and possesses a wide array of combat skills such as grappling and hand-to-hand combat. His natural charisma makes him a born leader, though he lacks the tactical genius to be truly brilliant.

Weakness: Altering the density of multiple points on his body at once requires a great degree of concentration, an art which Zanzibar has yet to truly master. He is very self-assured, to the point of great arrogance and often pushes himself beyond his capacity, believing his powers to be greater than they actually are. He has aspirations to be a leader in Eden's community some day but is not one to bow and stoop to his superiors. What he lacks in tact, however, he more than makes up for in charisma and his popularity has, unfortunately, made him more than a few enemies within Eden.

Background: Sync and Zanzibar were born Megan and James Howell. Their parents were outspoken mutant rights activists who were accidentally killed in a protest some time before the 7 Day War. The children were sent off to live with their aunt, an abusive woman who exploited the children for her own gain. User Image
Name: "Boom" (aka "Boomer", "Boo")
Age: 18
Height: 5'7
Weight: 121
Hair: Blonde (dyed)
Eyes: Brown
Ethnicity: Asian
Occupation: Demolitionist

Powers: Molecular Excitation: Boom lives up to her name very well. Her power enables her to excite the molecules of inorganic material, working them into an unstable frenzy where they either explode when struck with enough force, or after a certain amount of time has passed. The strength of the explosion is based entirely on the size of the object, though in most cases shrapnel is much more deadly than the force of the explosion itself.

Origin of Powers: Boo is a mutant, though she's told others (in jest) a variety of other half-baked stories which some have been gullible enough to believe.

Skills/Talents: Her father wanted her to be a doctor. She even went to med school for a time. As a result, she has a working knowlege of human anatomy, first aid, illness, and a smattering of knowledge from other fields which, in a pinch, sometimes makes her the field medic. Her real talent, however, is for destruction. Because of her powers and line of work in Eden, she has great knowledge of construction environments; load-bearing structures, blast containment, and how to safely demolish a structure. Needless to say, these skills come in quite handy when used in tandem with her powers.

Weakness: She's a total spaz. A hyper-active, ADD spaz. While this trait can be endearing to some (especially her peers), the more serious-minded residents of Eden find her completely insufferable. Her powers are, by nature, very dangerous and can result in a lot of collateral damage. When paired with her wreckless nature, this can make her a liability to her teammates. Her hyperactive nature is a desperate plea for the attention and approval she was denied growing up. She is, unbeknownst to her conscious mind, suicidal; each wanton, wreckless use of her abilities is a suicide attempt.

Background: The youngest of 12 (yes, twelve) children, Boom comes from a religious polygamist background. She has repressed most of her childhood, but what she remembers of it was stepped in subtle abuse and brainwashing. She came under the custody of child protective services at 14 and not too soon afterwards, her powers manifested dramatically in the demolition of the entire foster home, killing everyone but her. She blames herself for these deaths and is unconsciously suicidal with guilt. After the destruction of the foster home, she was found by a dispatch of Omni's trackers and recruited to join the Choosen.

In Eden she works as a demolition technician...however, she also has accompanied a number of strike teams on covert terrorist operations, destroying landmarks, buildings, and otherwise acted (alongside the Choosen) in assistance to a number of mutant terrorist groups worldwide.

User ImageName: "Icarus"
Age: 21
Height: 5'6
Weight: 120
Hair: Blonde
Eyes: Brown
Ethnicity: Caucasian
Occupation: Inventor, hacker, technology specialist

Powers: Technological Integration: Icarus mentally controls several strands of unbreakable fiber which come from inside his body (originating from somewhere within his spine). These strands can break down existing machines within seconds, reintegrating them onto his body as armor, weapons, or useful gadgets. This, of course, destroys the original source item though, if Icarus wished to do so, he could dismantle his new modifications and use the pieces to reassemble the broken items in question. He keeps a number of useful devices integrated onto his body at all times, including an artificial arm with a miniature super-computer built into it.

Technopathy: Icarus may also use his strands to delve into a technological device, operating it in any way he sees fit so long as his strands remain connected to the machine. He may extract data from computers, upload viruses, and destroy or restore an entire network as he wishes.

Origin of Powers: Though he lies about being a mutant and is able to manipulate gene tests to verify his claims, Icarus' powers are completely based on nano-technology. His genes are as mundane as the next human beings.

Skills/Talents: Icarus is a certified genius with an IQ of 195 and an unsurpassed grasp of electrical, mechanical, and computer engineering. He can reason through complex equasions in seconds and uses his keen mind to guide his technological tendrils towards building complex devices from raw materials in seconds. Even without his powers, Icarus would be a formidable mind able to invent new devices and push the limits of existing technology.

Weakness Like many geniuses, Icarus is a complete a*****e with reprehensible social skills. He is arrogant and a hostage of his own mind which refuses to find joy or goodness in anything, citing that such emotions are without logical base and reserved for "lesser" beings. He lost his right arm, leg, and lung in the accident which gave him his powers and if his abilities were somehow neutralized, he would become quite helpless apart from his astondingly brilliant mind.

Background: Dr. Algus Holstein was one of the world's top scientists in the field of nanotechnology and his laboratory was responsible for a number of breakthroughs in nano-applications. The doctor was obsessed with creating nanotech which was artificially intelligent; a field of robotic research which has always been taboo at best. While working on a strain of nano-bots far more advanced than any previous model, there was an accident; instead of retaining the synthetic intelligence (a much more tame version of AI) they had been programmed with, the machines became self aware and attacked the lab, disintegrating the staff, equipment, and the entire building in a matter of minutes.

Legion (a name the entity gave itself), however, left Dr. Holstein's young son Algus II, who was only 4 at the time and living on the laboratory campus with his father, alive. Algus II was the doctor's genetic twin; a clone he had created of himself and enhanced in utero with gene treatments to stimulate the boy's mental facilities. For whatever reason, Legion took the boy's arm, leg, and lung as payment for a lifetime of service and the two became one. Algus cast off his father's name, taking up the mantle of Icarus, a mythical figure he had always been fascinated by, and set out on his own.

After the 7 Day War, the young lad pledge himself to Omni's service, throwing in his lot with the dictator under the belief that he was joining with the future of mankind. He used his technology altering abilities to forge gene test results verifying his claims of being a true mutant and now lives on Eden, serving the community as a scientist and inventor of many of the advanced technological marvels the island nation lords over the rest of creation.

User Image
Name: "Mane"
Age: 24
Height: 5'6
Weight: 120
Hair: Varies
Eyes: Blue
Ethnicity: Caucasian
Occupation: Stylist

Powers: Prehensile Hair: Mane has complete control over her hair; a power that may sound ridiculous until the full scope of her power is revealed. She can control its length, stretching up to 50 yards away, its color, its shape, movements, texture, and hardness. Her hair is nearly unbreakable and pulling on it does not pain her in the slightest. She may use it to fashion weapons, coccoon herself in armor, climb buildings, entangle foes, or manipulate objects from a distance. She can even control a single hair at a time if she wishes, allowing her access through any door, window, or vent so long as there is a crack at least the size of a hair to slip through.

Origin of Powers: Mane is a mutant, born with a full head of writhing hair.

Skills/Talents: Though her powers aren't particularly useful in her field of expertise, Mane has a passion for style and fashion and owns her own salon in Eden (every girl knows that you get your hair cut by the girl who herself has the best hair cut). She is very much aware of current trends, culture, and fashion in both the culture of Eden and the culture of the rest of the world (a hobby which is likely to land her in trouble some day).

Weakness: Her hair, while it can become exceedingly durable, is by no means unbreakable. Pressure greater than several tons can cause it to tear and will sever if cut by an exceedingly strong metal such as amaranthine.

When alone, she talks to herself...well, to her hair actually. As an only child and a well-known mutant in her community, she was ostracized by everyone she ever encountered and so, made up friends to play with, using her hair to embody them. To this day, she talks to her hair, treating it as though it were a living entity; a sister, almost. She's aware of how bizarre this is, but can't seem to shake the habit.

Mane has a serious crush on fellow team member Zanzibar and would do anything for him. He is aware of this and uses her feelings to manipulate her. She is very protective of him, to the point of putting herself and the mission in danger to protect him.

Background: Jessica Schmidt was born to eagerly expectant parents one fine autumn day with a full head of hair writhing like a snake as the child screamed. The once eager young couple was earnestly horrified by their daughter's mutation and instead of raising her like the little girl they had always wanted, they neglected her. Not physically; they cared for all her needs without fail. But emotionally, they were absent, silent, and cold towards her. Her upbringing was strange...on the outside, they were good parents who looked out for her, put a roof over her head, and food in her mouth...but deep down, the relationship she had with them was non-existant. Her entire growing up, the only friend she ever had were make-believe friends that she would manipulate her hair to embody and to this day, she treats her hair as though it were a sister. When her parents asked her to leave home at 18, she moved directly to Eden without a second thought, knowing that among her own kind she would not suffer the same lonliness she had amongst humanity....right?
