Okay, so, I have a question or two.
First: Do corsets really help with posture?
I ask because, I've been crazy over them for years, lots of my school notes and such are doodled with corsets or laces and such, and when I did start to actually look into them and do a bit of research, I've heard conflicting stuff. I really would like to get one, but a) I'm only sixteen, seventeen in March, though I'd be buying it myself, I haven't grown in at least a year or more (I'm 6'0. If I get any taller, I swear, I will freak out) b) I'd have to get mom's permission to buy one for myself because I want to go and actually get it fitted, make sure it's proper, and I love the corsets they do at this shop. Unfortunately, the place is on the mainland, so I'd need some sort of mom-consent. And c) my posture is atrocious and it makes me look absolutely repulsive. I can't not slouch, my posture is that bad. I consciously correct my posture, then get distracted doing something else, then next thing I notice I'm slouched again. I have frequent back pain, too. Not too too often, but just mildly and often enough that it's irritating. And even now, as I type this, I slouch. I sit up straight, then if I don't focus on it for too long, I'm bent over the keyboard again.
I think that if they would help me improve my posture, it'd be a good point for the reasons why I should be able to buy myself a corset, no?
Egh, hate having to ask consent for anything. I'm worried of my mom judging me most of all. XP
Or, I could wait until I'm eighteen and done with high school. Two of the universities I'm considering going to after this have corset shops located within the cities. Then, I wouldn't have to ask. XP
But that is not ideal for me. I really, really want one, I've wanted one for years.

Hmm. Can't think of any other questions. Which is strange, because usually I come up with them as I type. XD

OH. Here we go. XP
For a first-timer, would you suggest an overbust or an underbust? Haven't decided on which one I'd like to buy; I'd love to get them both, but I'm pretty sure only one is realistic with my funds XD
This is the overbust I want
and this is the underbust

And also: have any of you gorgeous corset-wearers been met with some friction from those who are not corset-wearers? I know that when I told (err, more like they read) my friends that I wanted to get a corset, they were like, "Omglol, why? Bondage-much?" They just don't get it D:
Anyone else have these kinds of issues?

First of all, let me say GOOD that you're gettin one that's made for you! And not a confectional one. Especially for your first, they are 10x as comfortable if they're made after your measurements. And in that aspect i don't think it really matters if it's an underbust or Overbust.
However, if you want it to be a bit more discrete the Underbust is better, though the overbust might be better for your posture since it rises higher in the back.

I've gotten many looks when I'm wearing my corset, but no one has ever said anything stupid. Most people think it's cool. ^^ The girls at school all came up and wanted to feel. xD It was fun.
@ If they would say anything stupid, too bad for them if they can't appreciate the beauty of a corset. It's their loss. wink

I've been told that they have been used to correct posture. So yes, I'm sure it would help a lot. Goodluck!

Haha, thanks you guys :3

@ Zetsuki:: I don't think I'm going to get one that's made for me right yet... But I know that the lady who runs the shop I plan to buy from designed all the patterns she sells, if not makes them, and I've been in correspondance with her, asking what size I'd need and whatnot. She seems very knowledgeable. The whole reason I want to go in and try it on is to make sure it fits right and is reasonably comfortable XD
Although, she did show me this underbust custom corset that she makes that rises up in the back for more support O:
Kinda' want it, but not sure I can fork out that much cash. XP

Yay, that's a good sign! :3 I'm reallyreally excited. I want one sooo bad~~
But yeah, when I told my friend I wanted a corset, she basically snorted at me and was like "Why would you want one?" But that's okay, because she practically makes a profession out of being snarky and irritating and belittling others XP
And exactly. I like your viewpoint :333

@ BunBunRei:: Oh, good :3 Thank you!

In terms of posture, you don't want a corset for that. The boning tends to be overly stiff. Just work on your posture otherways, and that will help. Slouching backwards is supposed to be good for your back anyways.

If a corset is properly made for improving posture, they can do wonders. I would suggest a corset with shoulder support, like this old patent. I personally would suggest an underbust with a high back and shoulder straps - so its a little more subtle(if you plan on wearing it everyday).

I've never really had any problems with non-corset wearers. It really depends on how you wear them - and what kind of corset if it is.

Also, I don't have the nicest posture in the world, but I've found that I have improved it substantially since I started playing wii fit. (Seriously)
