Magdelen slipped her hands into the jacket again, staring at herself in the mirror. It looked okay, if you liked pink puffballs, which was exactly what she looked like. But she didn't like pink puffballs- but they were what everyone else wore- it was what Dad was expecting her to come back with- but she didn't like it. Didn't she?
With a frown, she shed the coat and hung it back up. Maybe there was something else? Most of these things were for shorter kids, anyway. She could probably get away with the really small sizes in the teen section... Tentatively, she wandered away. Luka could still see her if she went the four steps over to the teen's section and that was all he'd required, right?
Right. She found herself surrounded by skimpy clothes she'd never, ever be caught dead wearing, so she moved further into the teen's section- but something caught her eye and she stopped. Unfortunately it wasn't a jacket, since that would end the whole miserable shopping experience, but it was another person, another girl who looked to be a little bit older than she. Okay, maybe a lot.
She didn't know, the other girl looked... vivacious, at least in coloring. It was fascinating, really, and Magdelen couldn't stop herself from staring enviously.

Manuela was intently studying the fabric of a pair of pants, wondering how they would chafe against her stiff leg if she were to walk around in them for a while. She seemed oblivious to the fact that she was being watched, but gradually it dawned on her and her hand tightened around her cane. She turned to look, the fiery shock of her sparse bangs flashing in sharp contrast to the rest of her hair. Her eyes were not threatening as she looked the other girl over, she wasn't causing any trouble after all, but she was curious. "Do you need help with something?" she asked curiously, releasing the garment to step a little closer, "You lost?"

She slowly tilted her head one way and didn't seem to recognize she was being spoken to for a moment, embroiled in the strange colors. "N-no," she stammered out once she realized the other person she was studying had noticed her. "It's just... your hair. It's pretty." As if to emphasize it, she tugged on one of her own rather colorless locks. "Do you dye it?"

"Hm?" It took her a moment to register what the other girl was talking about, "Oh, the front." She tussled the short mess with her free hand, cringing slightly at the fact that it was returning to its original kinky texture. "No, it's always been like that, just comes in this way I guess," she explained, flicking her tail up around her side as if to demonstrate, "Only part of it though, I'm not sure why." She seemed to relax a little seeing that the conversation wasn't steering toward her new and somewhat embarrassing accessory, and took the pause to gesture to her, "Yours is nice too, I bet it makes it real easy to match clothes against. You can wear just about anything and look good with hair that color." The comment made her feel rather self conscious about her own outfit, a combination of dark pinstripes and shocks of orange and red silk. It wasn't quite back to her normal style yet.

She gasped at the tail, bringing up both hands to cover her mouth. It was cool! but a little scary. "You look good," she offered. "Pretty." Then she sighed, wondering why the lady had cringed before. Was she hurting? Magdelen forced herself to decide she didn't care. That didn't mean she couldn't talk a little more, though...
"Where do you find clothes like that," she asked, curious and reaching out to touch the red fabric. She remembered at the last minute that that was bad, and dropped her arm back to her side.

Manny flashed a smile, uncurling the lengthy scarf of orange and red silk from her neck. She offered it to Magdelen for examination, not at all phased by her forwardness. It was fairly common in her neighborhood for people to be all over her new outfits, rarer now because many seemed uncomfortable approaching her when she was standing. "I find a lot of fabrics like this at the flea markets downtown, you can use them for whatever you want really. It's pretty simple to make a headband or a scarf, even cuffs to stick out from under a shirt," she explained, tugging up the sleeves of her own jacket to make a point that the colored cuffs weren't attached, "The rest you can find in stores like this, thrift stores, pretty much anywhere they sell clothes. You don't have to wear stuff exactly the way you find it."

She reached out and touched the fabric, immediately enchanted by the smoothness. Her dad wore shirts like this sometimes, and she'd steal them and then get yelled at. "Wow," she said, offering the brightly colored silk back to the lady. "How'd you know to do that?" Magdelen never would have thought of it.

Manny shrugged, putting the fabric back in its place. She leaned on her cane for a moment, as if she were thinking about how to explain it. "Well, a lot of it just comes to me I guess, but I read a lot of fashion magazines, watch a lot of shows. You kind of take in what other people do and change it to fit yourself," she mused, curling her tail around her feet, "And watching people, you can kind a lot of things you might not have thought of yourself." That was pretty much it, except for perhaps asking for advice, but that was a given.
