Here's my idea! I would be hoping to have her start as an egg or freshly hatched, thus the 'bio' is more 'general plan of events', and may change through rp. Critique and comments welcomed!

Name: Kierani, goes by Kiera

Gender: Female

Rank: Daewl

Power: Kiera has the ability to make baked goods more filling and taste better, to make them cook faster, rise faster, expand to just the right size as they bake - everything a good baker could do, only more so. As she grows older, she will discover she is able to enhance baked goods made by others, to make them more palatable if she cannot eat her own cooking.

Coloration: Warm colors - reds, golds, cream, a touch of black - almost fire colors, swirl over Kiera's body and tail. Her eyes flash green as she turns her head, and tend to telegraph her emotion far more than is normal for a Daewl. Her claws are cream colored, while her head-horn is dead black.

Bio: When Kiera's parents saw her egg, and even more so when she hatched, they thought her coloring was indication of a talent with fire. Both parents had good, strong powers and were respected within their rank, and they expected their child to be the same. However, at first she appeared to have no power at all. They tried getting her to summon fire, make the wind blow, cause water to dance, anything they could think of - and she could do none of those things. They decided she must not be trying hard enough, or her mind was not disciplined enough - and began her on a strict regimen of learning. The strict control gradually spread to everything, until Kiera was living in a cage of rules.
For Kiera's part, she was miserable. At first, it was simply because she knew she was disappointing her parents - never feeling love, or pride, or joy in their daughter from them, only cold disappointment. Then, as she grew older, she began to feel the bars of her 'cage', and resent them. She wasn't sure what she wanted to do with her eternal life, but it wasn't this, it wasn't to spend her life doing as she was told. Then one day she had a few spare moments, an unplanned hour with nothing to do - she wandered into the Village(her parent's home was way out in the outskirts), and happened on a place where there was food offered for sale. She tried some, and loved it - nothing like the plain fare she got at home, this delighted her tongue. She talked to the shop owner and got her first lesson in baking - cut short though it was by her parents. She continued to sneak out when she could, and gradually discovered that she had a talent for baking - and more than a talent, this was the power she had believed she did not have. A longing grew in her to break free from her parents and set up shop, open a bakery of her own....But she had been Drada only for a few months, and knew it would be a long time yet before she would be considered mature enough to live on her own.

PART I. PHYSICAL

Full name:: Kierani (goes by Kiera)
Reasons for the name(s):: OOC: I like the sound of it. I invent my names. IC: named after a great-grandmother
Sex:: Female
Apparent Age/Approximate Age:: 20, both in looks and actual
If he/she was alive during the masacres, was he/she bonded? To whom? Born after massacres
Rank:: Daewl
If a Daewl, what is his/her one power?:: Baking. If absolutely necessary, she could take the ingredients and make bread without any tools - but it would leave her exhausted. Mainly she uses her power to improve the quality of her baked goods, to make them faster when needed, and to improve the quality of what she eats that she didn't make herself. There is a little bit of overlap into non-baked goods, but not much. Full extent of ability not yet determined.
Skin Tone/Apparent Race:: Very pale, with freckles. Probably looks Irish.
Height:: short, maybe a tad over 5 foot
Weight/Body Build:: Plump. When she was younger she was skinny as a rail, but once she opened her bakery, like any good cook, she gained weight from 'quality testing'. Stocky build.
Hair:: Flaming coppery red and curly. Generally tied back in a bushy ponytail with tendrils escaping all around her face. Mid-back to waistlength when down.
Eyes:: Brilliant emerald green
Ear colours/markings:: Swirling fiery colors with sooty tips
Tail colours/markings:: Swirling fiery colors with cream-colored tip
Peculiar Physical Traits:: Freckles! Black horn.
Distinguishing Marks:: As above XD
Health:: Generally very healthy - after all, she's eating healthy food! Although her knees and ankles tend to hurt, as a result of being overweight.
Senses:: Normal eyesight and hearing for a jivvin, but her senses of smell and taste are very well developed.
Voice:: Rather low for a woman, generally full of laughter.
Mannerisms:: Brushes hair back from face a lot when talking, constantly checks her cooking and baking when she's nervous about something.
Clothes/shoes/accessories:: Sturdy brown shoes and dress, normally, with the ever-present white apron. When she's dressing nice for some reason she'll wear a blue or green dress instead, although there'll usually be a spatter of flour or dried dough somewhere even then.
Eating habits/mannerisms/tastes:: Savors everything. Seriously. She does not eat quickly preferring to close her eyes and experience every element of flavor in what she's eating.

PART II. GENERAL

Occupation/Social Status in Rank:: Baker. Not thought of highly in her rank, they don't see her power as particularly powerful or useful - after all, anyone can bake, right? XD Doesn't stop them from buying her goods though.
Views on Rank responsibilites:: Scorns the other Daewls and their lack of common sense, yet craves their acceptance. Really confused there due to her parents. To explain further: She wants to be accepted by them as she is, and scorns them because they will not accept her power as worthwhile despite its practicality. She serves them as well as anyone else, in fact usually with better goods to prove her point, but they only receive her civility, not her usual buoyant hospitality. It's sort of along the lines of someone who thinks rich people are idiots, but still wants to be rich themself, but on their own terms, if you know what I mean.
Education/ Intelligence:: Very well educated, due to upbringing, but doesn't act like it. Similarly, is far more intelligent than is immediately apparent.
Marital Status:: Single - so far! She'd probably make a good housewife though XD
Political Thoughts/ Views of Ranks and Vhaid:: Jivvins are jivvins. If they can appreciate a good pastry or loaf of bread, that's good enough for her! She gets really frustrated when those higher up make obviously bad decisions, though. What with her valuing common sense and all.
Beliefs/ Values/ Strength of Beliefs:: Very strong, if odd, ethical code. She strongly believes in honor and doing what's right - it's just her definition of 'honor' and 'right' that are strange XD Although it's unlikely to come up. She has no problem with stealing something that's needed, but betrayal...let's just say you don't want to see her mad. Also, she is unlikely to react much to wrongs done to her, but if someone hurts someone else, especially a friend, you do not want to get in her way. She's a redhead through and through that way. She has various subconscious motives she will not admit to herself, and is in fact unaware of, and someday these are going to bite her and force her to acknowledge them. I expect she will have serious internal conflicts to deal with when this time comes.
What is his/her usual disposition?:: Very cheerful! Unless her parents are mentioned, anyway.
Optimist/ Pessimist? :: Optimist outwardly, although there are a few things she's pessimistic about. Like her parents.
Confident/Self-conscious? :: Self-conscious to begin with, but as she gains her independence she will quickly become confident. Very good at acting confident when she's not.
How does he/she feel about his/her appearance? :: Honestly doesn't care. She would've stayed skinny if she did. She cares more about her baking.
Most important possession:: Her wooden mixing spoon. It was given to her by the stall-owner who first introduced her to the wonders of good food.
Talents :: Baking, obviously! She's a good cook in other respects too. She hasn't really explored in other directions, as she was so focused on getting away from her parents and setting up shop as a baker. Now that she's finally getting started, she might have the time to try other things.
What is a normal day like for this Jivvin?:: Get up in the wee hours of the morning, begin the baking of breakfast goods. Open up the bakery the moment the first things are out of the oven. Around noon she begins giving away the leftover breakfast stuff and sets out the loaves of bread and other lunch/dinner stuff. Around three closes shop for an hour while she goes and gets supplies. closes the shop for the night around eight. Note: This is a future likely schedule, after she gets her shop. As of now she doesn't really have one.
What is a normal rainy day like for this Jivvin?:: Much the same, except she might skip the shopping trip. Days off are taken on an irregular basis and not often. Again, this is a future schedule.
Greatest Fear:: Being trapped in a cage of rules again, like she was as a child.
What does he/she want most?:: To become so recognized and well-known as a baker that the other Daewls will recognize her and her power as worthwhile.

Major Goals::
1. Become established as a baker.
2. Become the best jivvin baker in history.
3. Introduce EVERYONE to truly good baking.

She will undoubtedly develop other goals as her worldview expands, but up until now she has been so focused on baking that she hasn't really thought about much else. While she is physically grown, she still has a lot to learn emotionally and mentally.

PART III. RELATIONSHIPS

Significant Other/Relationship::None atm
Who does he/she live with?:: Lives alone.
Who does he/she spend the most time with?:: Her customers XD
Father/Relationship with him/Rank/Current Status:: Kaltaf Talkor/Daewl/deceased
Kiera mostly saw her father as a looming figure who enforced and believed in her mother's rules. He was if anything more disappointed in Kiera than her mother was over her lack of power, but he was the one who gave her that free hour as a child, and that went a long way towards redeeming him in her eyes. More recently, when he fell ill, she realized he was not as strong as he always seemed, and she was truly shocked by his new physical frailty. When he died she was unsure how to react.
Mother/Relationship with her/Rank/Current Status:: Torena Galei/Daewl/deceased
Torena was the one who handed down the rules and laid down the law. Always strict, especially about lessons, Torena seemed cold to her daughter. When she was found dead less than a day after her beloved Kaltaf died, it revealed a whole new side of her to Kiera. This new knowledge of her mother as a person warred with joy at her new freedom, resulting in the horrible feeling of guilt Kiera now feels with regards to her parents.
Siblings/Ranks/Current Status:: No siblings.
Best Friend/Rank/Current Status:: None yet, unless you count the stallowner who taught her, but he just had her call him 'Cook' and disappeared when she was fifteen.
Cook never told Kiera his real name. She met him in that free hour as a child, and was the one who introduced her to baking and cooking in general. Every time she could slip away he was there to teach her something new, and he never seemed surprised when she showed up at strange hours, or could only stay for a few minutes. Cook always praised her - something she never got from her parents - and told her that she had a talent with food far beyond just her power. It was he who kindled her desire to open a bakery, assuring her that she could succeed readily in such an endeavor. When he disappeared when Kiera was fifteen, she was devastated - she had hoped he'd be there to help her leave her parents and set up shop when the time came, and truthfully had been half in love with him - a teenage crush on her mentor, if you know what I mean XD She never did find out what happened to him.
Feelings toward animals:: She likes animals in general, but doesn't really like them in her kitchen - they cause far too much trouble! She shares the usual cooks' hatred of mice, rats, and bugs however.
How does he/she view his/her family?:: Guilt, longing, fear, admiration. She's really messed up in that regard. Admiration - her parents had very strong powers, were well-educated, and were well-respected. Fear - she never wants to be trapped like that again! Longing - though she'd never admit it, she did love her parents, and longed for their acceptance and respect. Guilt - for being glad when they died (not that long ago - it's only been a week to a month) because it freed her and allowed her to go out on her own away from all their rules. She's glad they died and hates herself for it because she knows they were basically good people and probably never realized what they were doing to their daughter.
How does he/she view his/her friends?:: Doesn't really have any yet. The other young Daewls she met as a child scorned her and her lack of power, and since her parents died she hasn't had a chance to make any yet.
How does his/her family view him/her?:: Before they died, her parents regarded her with disappointment. They always thought she'd develop a strong power if she just tried hard enough - after, she was their daughter. She never told them about her baking power because she knew it would only disappoint them further.
How does his/her friends view them?:: As said before, doesn't really have any.
Who is his/her hero?:: 'Cook', the jivvin who taught her about baking. Also to a certain extent her parents, though she'd never admit it, even to herself.

heart Here goes ^_^

~ She doesn't have to even have a last name in the village if she doesn't want one. I believe that last names are only used when it's a carryover from a jivvin that was human bonded in the old days heart for the most part the villagers don't even bother with last names.

~ She looks 20... how old is she really?

~ ^_^ Short and plump. She sounds huggable.

~ She scorns the other daewls... but she really want's their acceptance. That does have some sense to it, and I'm not saying that it's not reasonable in certain circumstances, but as an example:: How would she treat a Daewl in her shop? Would she be rude to them? Refuse to sell to them? Sell to them but frown the entire time? Serve them with a smile and seethe inwardly? Because it seems to be that if she really wanted their acceptance she'd act like a wallflower in amoungst a whole bunch to cheerleaders... she'd throw herself at their mercy and every whim at whatever cost as long as it made her a cheerleader too... XD ... right? I don't know... something about the extreme there doesn't seem right to me.

~ Again... Honor and doing what's right are great things to have as personality traits... but how does the public scorn of her rank fit into that unless she REALLY believes that the her rank deserves no respect? And if she believes that, then why does she want acceptance from them?

~ XD I see from her 'major goals' that she want's to be a baker... a good baker... the best baker XD ... doesn't she have at least one goal in life that's not baking? And this is me nit picking here heart

~ I need more about her parents personally... I see that they're dead, and Daewl... I don't see how she felt about each one individually? Was there a specific moment in her past that she remembers above all others causeing her to feel something slightly different for one of her parents? And they're only dead a week... how long has she been out of their grasp? More than that to set up shop I suspect... I also want to know how they died? It's not uncommon for truly bonded jivvins to die when their spouse does, but which one went first and how?

~ A stall-owner taught her how to cook.... when? where? why? Did he have a real name, and why is the fact that he's a stall owner important? He's a BIG figure in her life apparently... it would be good to know a LOT more about him. ^_^

~If her parents died a week ago, and this is the first time she's getting a chance to set up for herself, then there's no way she could have a shop already... that would take months I suspect. She'd need a space, a follwing, good relationships with the marketplace sellers so she could buy from them, all that kind of stuff... maybe she should have gotten out before her parents died? or her parents could have died months ago... Unless you're ok with playing her as JUST starting a shop... like maybe converting her parents' old house or something... But even in that case she'd need to make friends with a carpenter and a builder! XD You see what I mean? heart

~ I realize that it's not in your form, but rather in the previous into paragraph, but you say that she wandered into the village... I'm not sure what you meant by that, but I wanted to let you know that she would already have been in the village XD that doesn't mean that she couldn't live in a more sparsely populated area, and wandered into the market area... I was just unsure about your wording there.

It's a good concept, Kali. There's not too much wrong with it that I can see *I could be missing things wink * But it does need quite a bit more information heart go for it XD
PostPosted: Wed Feb 25, 2009 2:30 pm

*goes in to add more and explain more* I had intended for her to be just getting started..no she doesn't actually have her shop yet XD But she will soon, and I thought her daily schedule would be more informative if I put how it WILL be because she doesn't have much of a schedule right now.

*goes to update things to be more accurate*

Kiera sprang full-formed into my head when I read the new Wilds info awhile back, it's just putting things into words that's difficult.

Everything is now updated - does this work better?
PostPosted: Wed Feb 25, 2009 3:28 pm

~ Her parents lived in the village... maybe on the outskirts, but IN the village. Everyone lives in the village ^_^

~ And on that same note, Jivvins can wander in, but when they do they HAVE to stay. Nobody gets out either... So there's a congruency problem with Cook being a 'wanderer'... He'd be hard pressed to dissapear unless he died... which is possible.

That's all I have O.o ... XD heart

Cook is a mystery, and is meant to be ^_^() I'm kinda hoping someone will pick him up as a character and explain things. Perhaps he is a wanderer in time?

Outskirts is kinda what I meant. There are farms around the village right? That's how they get food? So her parents would be in the same area as the farms, not really in the Village proper, but still within the boundaries...If my image of the Village is off let me know ^_^()

EDIT: I apologize if I'm being overly stubborn...

xd You're supposed to be a little stubborn. It's your character and if you can make it fit without sacrificing too much all the better heart

Oh good XD I'm a very stubborn person, and sometimes I can't tell whether I'm taking things too far.
PostPosted: Fri Feb 27, 2009 5:03 pm

I can see only two real concerns, Kali, and, really, I consider them both minor, but necessary to point out.

Firstly, you speak of her as being very young, because she was in a rush to grow to escape her parents, but also make clear that she was an adult when they died and was still living with them, and has yet to actually open her shop. This seems contradictory? I would suggest that you either have her pre-established in her occupation and suggest a strained relationship with her parents from the time she left them, eased, perhaps, with their deaths, or simply negate the "rush to grow" comment. She can be fairly young, that's not a big deal, the two ideas just seem to collide.

Secondly, I'm afraid that I am going to have to insist upon a change to "Cook". It's fine if you want him to be ambiguous, but it's like Kep said, no Jivvin would just leave. If you want to suggest that he passed away without her knowing, that would work, or work out another story for him, we'll see. But as he is, he wouldn't make sense. Even a "wanderer in time" would settle in the Village permanently, like Satou did, and the Doors only go to a certain time period, which is certainly no time recently.

Alright, all I meant by 'rush to grow' was that from what I've seen, Wilds usually take longer than 20 years. She would have reached adulthood just before they died. I have taken that out of the age section.

Also took out the wanderer bit, added in that she never found out what happened to him.

That good?
