[ I Gots a Pocket Full of Crayons ]

Holy Jelly-Bean Crocodiles, Batman, it's a quest! Sort of. I would call this more of a concept thread, but I call anything I'm actively thinking of pursuing a 'quest', because it sounds more serious, even if it isn't nearly as official.

This is simply a quest for a little boy named Matches, from a rather colorful world, of colorful people, inspired by the wacky imaginations of Dr. Seuss and Shel Silverstein.

Questing pursuit officially starts when Mortimer is a teen, but I thought that I'd go ahead and toss a thread up here and start working on this while it's on my mind.

Updates

The Bare Rough-Draft is up. Thread is still bannerless, but I'll fix that. I like me some graphics!

[ the criminal ]

Name: Vitali Neunes
Age: ---
Sex: Male
Species: Penart
Crime: Ruining the Rosa Annual art display

Physical Description:

Vitali's physical appearance is open-ended, and will only be limited to specifics if it become necessary. In the mean-time, Vitali can look like anything the imagination can conjure.

Extended Criminal Report:

It was a fine year and the city was bustling with color. Wonderful ribbons filled the streets, and balloons dangled in the air, dancing to the sound of music. People stood and watched as the progression of heroes passed them. The most famous of all the penarts walked, regally, with their heads held high and their accomplishments adorned. The crowds would cheer enthusiastically for their covered works - but, as some would say, none would cheer as much as the earnest Vitali.

Vitali was a peculiar penart. Unlike normal penarts, Vitali had no talent. He was not a wonderful artist, nor a wonderful actor, nor a wonderful musician, poet, or writer. There was nothing artistic about him, which seemed to defy the logic of the Rosa world. Nevertheless, his mind was a beautiful place, and he wanted nothing more than to participate in the festivities. He would follow the progression every year, running in vain to try and catch the attention of the annual kings and queens of artistry.

On this particular day, of this particular year, however, Vitali messed up. The progression had taken an experimental cruise in which the paintings and works of the artists and musicians had been encased within a small building. Having gathered the spirit and will, Vitali fell under the unique occupation of tending to these wonderful works, but something over-came him when he saw an elaborate painting by the year's most popular artist. He had touched it, and the paint had flaked, leaving a large, ugly scratch. Desperate to fix his mess, Vitali gathered buckets of paint to try and recreate the scenic beauty he had defiled, but the attempt was meaningless. Paint had splattered everywhere, destroying the painting, and not only that painting, but the written works, instruments, and constructions surrounding it. Vitali single-handedly ruined the festival and the unique items that had inhabited it.

Outraged by this mess, the penarts banished Vitali from Rosa and sent him away, believing he would live a colorless life and suffer a worthy punishment (for no planet is like Rosa).

[ the world ]

[ general ]

Rosa is a beautiful planet filled with residence as snooty as the stereotypical French. It's a colorful planet, its architecture and surrounding scenery almost something out of a coloring book. As they would say: there is no place like Rosa, with its lush jungles of rainbow-y trees and plants, to its bizarre buildings jutting out in weird angles and weird shapes just for the sake of experimentation. It's a children's illustration that has come to life, and its bounties appear as untamed as the imagination of such inspirations.

There are several population centers about Rosa, though all appear to rest on the light side of the planet; yes, there is, indeed, a dark-side. A dark-side without color, without art, and supposedly without habitation. Many legends surround the other portion of the planet, but few Penart, or citizen of Rosa, have ever dared to brave the darkness, and those who have, never returned to tell their stories. For the most part, the planet of Rosa appears to be filled with pacifists. There are no wars in the violent sense, though murder and mayhem exist as within all societies. The Penart prefer to settle their disputes in manners of 'talent duels', which may be compared to a the Coliseum of Rome. The country is peculiar in that its population size is inherently small - even within its clusters, there is an estimate of no more than one thousand people living on the tiny, colorful thing, and the lot of them scarcely seem adamant about establishing a formal government. Everyone takes turns being the mayor in their small cities and towns. Everyone has responsibilities, and, in that respect, its government can be considered undefined and fluctuating.

[ inhabitants ]

The inhabitants of the beautiful Rosa are known as Penart, which is, indeed, Pen and Art crammed together. how clever! Nevertheless, the Penart themselves are rather perplexing. Their entire world revolves around the basic essentials of their peace: everyone has a talent. Some Penart are writers, some are poets, some are musicians, some are painters, some are film-makers, some are bakers, some are mathematicians - but they are all relatively good at something or another - something that sets them apart, something that makes them shine, and the Penart are avid celebrators of individuality and fun. To not have an obvious talent is the equivalent of not having a soul - they would be monsters without it! In terms of a silent hierarchy, it is hardly a mystery that the painters are the most valued of all. To be a painter within Penart society is to be able to captured the light, to press it onto canvas, or onto anything, and to create a whole new world of vivid imagination. The Penart love their paintings, and they often celebrate them separately from the other talents at their annual festival. The festival is the source of all joy on Rosa. If the festival were t be ruined, it would likely damage the world's spirits, for it is bigger than even Christmas!

Penart are rather superstitious. It's why they're afraid of the dark, and afraid of anything that seems to lack color or light or life. They believe that life can not exist otherwise, and thus it is of the most horrific, if not pornographic, nature for anything to be conceived in black and white. They're also afraid of utter silence, thus the world is constantly filled with noise of some sort. The noisiest planet in all of the universe!

[ the kid ]

Name: Matches
Nicknames: ---
Age: Would-Be-Baby
Species: Beastie
Sex: Male
Guardian: Simon O. Grey

Physical Description:

Arguably a relation of cousin-it, Matches is the abominable snowman of life. He's a fluff-ball, a ball of hair, a giant, freakish looking yeti-of-a-big-foot, but nevertheless sweet and kindly in his colorless ways. His body is primarily composed of stark white fur, the kind which droops, curls, and sticks up in any which direction it so may desire. The fur begins from some unknown region of the body and consumes, leaving Matches in the predicament of having no apparent hair-style. However, he is not all fur and no skin! Beneath the hairy white-mass rests sleek black skin, almost oil-like as if it belonged to a sea-lion. The skin is visible only in five primary areas - his face, his claw-like hands and feet, his ears, and his tail. All things considering, Matches is a simplistic little boy. His eyes are two rounded, bright white circles with no apparent pupils, and his nose and mouth appear to be invisible, raising the question of how he eats or speaks. Extending from beneath the messy fur is a short, stocky tail resembling that of a stegosaurus, spikes and all, and extending from the top of his head are two enormous rabbit-ears, black like his skin.

It is possible for Matches to go completely without clothing if preferred - however, if clothing were to be noted, something wonderfully colorful would be more than fitting, as Matches is quite the colorful youth.

Personality:

Frighteningly curious, and equally as intimidating in his bizarre sense of creativity. Matches loves paint. He loves crayons. He loves markers. He loves anything that offers a glimmer of color to his colorless self, and often times he will use himself as a canvas for his creative mind. Matches is stark-raving mad. Even in his sleep, he never seems to go anywhere without something he may use to draw his squiggly lines and misshapen forms that appear to have no real artistic merit. He may be described as a miniature Picasso of sorts, but far more fitting, he is simply a boy enthralled by the world and all of the beauty it has to offer him.

Matches is colorful. He does not retain good memory of what happened to him, but he retains enough feeling to hold the innate obsessions all individuals from Rosa felt. Yet, he is colorless himself - a mere achromatic color scheme relying on outside sources to bring color to his physical demeanor, and reflect what he subconsciously deems is his soul.

Happy-go-lucky and rather outgoing, Matches waists no time in investigating anything - be they people, places, or things. He tends to be in mild control of himself. He never clings to anyone, unless something fascinating captures his attention and draws him near. If anything, he's an engaging individual with sociable tendencies and a babbling sense of conversation. He's not particularly good at balancing, and has a problem with falling over himself and rolling like a ball; yet this seems to be in good fun itself at times, and he'll often do it on purpose for the sole reason of gathering attention. Some may even call him a mild attention whore seeking five-minutes of fame out of a comedic act, which may also be described as the 'art the Penart missed', as Matches tends to be genuinely skilled with mime and slap-stick comedy or timing.

Despite his wild-side, Matches is capable of understanding the necessity of being tame. He's an obedient boy who simply wants to stay out of trouble! However, by sheer nature, trouble seems to haunt him like a ghost. He has difficulty being composed, and his attention tends to waver on the grounds of lacking discipline. As they say: curiosity kills the cat, and in Matches case, it was what got him banished from Rosa, and what continues to plague him even into his rehabilitation age.

Interesting Facts:

-Matches actually puts food into his fur to eat. It tends to happen rather quickly, the hair sucking it in and causing it to disappear within a matter of seconds.

-Matches name, if ever acquired, would have been decided by Mortimer. While Matches is subject to change during this questing-bit, it's the primary favorite. Other names include: Ticker, Bomb-Bomb, and Fluff.

This concept is flexible and will be altered, changed, or messed around with depending on any future acquisition attempts, but, for the most part, this bumbling ball of hair is what you're looking at.

[ the guardian ]

Name: Simon O. Grey

Nicknames: ---

Age: ---

Species: Human

Occupation: Therapist

Sex: Male

Hair Color: Brown

Eye Color: Blue

Skin Complexion: Pale

Distinguishing Features:
-Disfigured hand

Medical:
-Impaired vision

Conceptual Theme: ---

Summary: A peculiar hermit of sorts, Simon scarcely seems like the productive or successful individual he is. He's rather smart, but at the same time tends to put his foot in his mouth. His intentions never appear to be ill, though occasionally he may cause problems simply from not paying attention, or paying too much attention, to details or statements from other people. He isn't famous, or necessarily a popular therapist, and often spends his time wishing he were doing something more exciting (as the result, he often does ventures and analyzes people from afar, taking notes, his most avid fascination behind the criminal mind). Nevertheless, he is a rather practical man and earns his living fairly in comparison to his history as a thuggish youth (how his hand became disfigured: he got into a rather nasty fight).

Simon's nice despite his quirks. He tends to be somewhat nervous and anxious with people, never certain what he is supposed to say, but there isn't much of a doubt that he is a good person who simply indulges in a variety of strange, if not mildly creepy, things.

Interesting Facts:

-Simon speaks in a composed manner, though he'll occasionally slip-up. He tends to talk like Al Capone when he's not on guard.

-Simon likes classical music, and he'll often listen to broadcasted concerts on the radio in his study. However, he's never actually been to a real concert.
