Aysu padded down a quiet little animal-path, a small smile on her maw. She had a day to herself and slipped out of the backyard, as she had been doing since she could sneak away. It was nice living with her family, but sometimes it was nice to get away, to travel around and meet others. She wasn't far from home, her family lived in a small house right where the countryside met the city, so she never really went far.

She was a fair, albeit small, golden retriever, which was perfect for her since her family was small. A bigger dog would have taken up too much space. She knew she was smaller than normal, and she liked it that way.
So for the moment, she was just walking happily, tail wagging as she walked along.

Daisuke had caught a scent somewhere in the scrub brush and was following it eagerly. It was something new and he couldn't quite pinpoint what it was. It didn't quite smell like an animal, to him anyway, and yet not quite like anything he associated with humans. So long as it didn't reek of human, it couldn't be too hazardous to cheque out, right?

His tail was aloft, flagging, and his nose to the ground. Along the way he had scented a rabbit or two but he wasn't at all hungry. If truth be told, he wasn't exactly quite sure why he wasn't in the forest where he usually stayed. Perhaps it was to think a bit, or see if there were any dead ducks near farmers' ponds. He thought that his companions might enjoy the sweet, gamy-ness that water fowl provided.

It wasn't stealing if it was all ready dead, right?

Aysu heard birds up ahead, and laughed as she ran off the path, jumping and barking at them, sending several of the winged creatures into flight, crying and flapping. She grinned up at them, rearing back and pawing at the air. She kinda wished she could fly, thought it might be fun.
It was a silly thought because she knew she was a dog, and dogs couldn't fly. But she could still watch the birds.

The retriever stopped mid-step when he heard the barking and frenzied flight. All he saw was dead grass, bushes, bird feathers and...a little blue female. He lifted his nose to the air and breathed in. She most certainly didn't smell like a wild dog but she also didn't smell noxious like that dog he had run to in the city.

He canted his head to one side in silent contemplation. Maybe she had run away or her humans had made her live outside? That could be! He raised his head, tail still flagging and trotted a few metres away from her, his deep blue eyes were kind and bright.

"Ohayo, Miss." He said with a boy of his head. The way she acted he assumed she was a young adolescent like his ward, Isamu. But he was niave enough to think that most of the dramatic play of puppy-hood was worked out of dogs when they got to be adults due to the lives they had to lead in the wild.

Aysu turned when she heard a voice call to her, at least she though he called to her. It was another dog, another retriever like her, only slightly bigger. His size wasn't a surprise; Aysu had been born the runt of her litter. But the differences in size didn't stop her from bounding over with a friendly smile.
"Oh, hi! My name's Aysu, what's yours?" she asked, stopping before him and tilting her head a bit, curiously. She rarely met other dogs on these outings, so this was certainly a fun surprise! Of course, the back of her mind warned her that he might not be friendly, however she didn't want that warning to effect how she greeted new faces

Daisuke smiled. "I'm Daisuke...s'a pleasure, Aysu-san." He replied smoothly, giving her a casual once-over. He looked around himself. He noticed he had strayed far closer to human dwellings than he had intended. "I'm not trespassing on your territory am I?" He asked quickly.

She seemed pleasant enough but in his experience sometimes kindness was merely a ruse. He learned that the hard way while living under the dog who enslaved him as a pup.

"Daisuke, that's a nice name," Aysu replied cheerfully, her smile growing. She thought about his question for a moment and shrugged.
"No, I don't really have a territory, so no, you're not trespassing on my territory," she added with a shrug. At first thought, she thought to ask if she was on his, but then that was a stupid thought! He had just asked if this was her territory.
"I wonder who's territory this is. I didn't think I might be trespassing... I hope if someone does own this territory, that they don't mind us being here," she added, looking around a bit, somewhat expecting to see another dog, angry at them for trespassing.

Daisuke chuckled. "Well, arigato, Aysu-san...might I say yours is quite lovely and fitting." He replied. He thought that odd that a dog didn't have a territory. Well maybe she misunderstood, and thought he meant her own, personal terra. "Do you mind if I ask who's you live on?" He questioned. "And I doubt this land belongs to anyone...any smell of canine is stale, aside from yours. Heh, either that or they're very lax about protecting it." He said with a smirk.

"But if someone should show up...make a break for it and I'll distract them." He offered.

Aysu's attention returned to Daisuke and she smiled. He was quite charming, actually.
"I live on my family's land. It's big and the house is cozy and Juun is pleasant and Kumiko..." she stopped there, looking a little tired before continuing with a small shrug, "Well, she needs me."
She looked up then, some of her original cheer returning to her features.
"How about you? Do you have your own territory or do you share it or...?" she asked, nodding a bit at his final comment. She wasn't a fighter, not at all, though she had a strong protective attitude towards her family. If someone did come at them, she'd probably be in Daisuke's way more than a help to him.

'House?' Now where had he heard that word before? Hmm...oh! A human den. He decided not to press her about this 'Kumiko' who seemed to be the cause of a bit of distress to the b***h.

"Well, I'm sort of looking for my sensei...I lived with him on his land in the Alps...years ago." He explained. "I'm looking for him currently and gathering dogs to expand our group and turn it into a respectable pack. But in his absence I sort of have my own territory...his, until he returns." The male wasn't sure exactly how to explain everything.

"We've got a bit of a group forming...mind you we're a bit rag-tag but we'll get there."

"For your sensei? Oh, I do hope you find him. Did he go away for some reason?" Aysu asked, sitting down and curling her tail around her side. She liked this Daisuke. He was nice and sounded pretty responsible and she really did hope he found his mentor. It made her happy when others were happy.
"What other kind of dogs do you have in your group? Juun and Kumiko don't have any other dogs, but I get to interact with some of the other dogs at the park when Juun takes me once a week, so we're kinda close, though most of them are older than me."

Daisuke remained standing. "Hai. He left to look for the dog he thinks is his sire..." When she asked about his pack he smiled softly. "An akita, setter, bull terrier, daschund, and a doberman. The akita, Isamu, is my son. Not by birth but he may as well be." He added puffing out his chest proudly.

He canted his head to one side. "So what are you doing so far away from your humans?" He asked. "Don't you have to protect them?"

She didn't seem to bad for what his friend's adopted son would call a 'human humper'.

Aysu shrugged.
"Kumiko has her learning time right now. Masuhiro doesn't like me much, so I get sent outside. I don't like him much, either, but that's because he doesn't like dogs. I heard one of the other teachers, Miss Ayane, telling Kumiko that it was because he met a mean dog when he was little and doesn't trust any of us now. I think that's silly, but I trust him with Kumiko, and Miss Miya is there too, so I don't feel bad. I usually go off to explore when it's Masuhiro's day to teach. I came this way today and I met you, so I think it's been quite a good day," she replied happily. She always did like meeting new faces and Aysu was truly and completely status-blind. Any dog was a potential friend to her, as long as they were good and honorable.
"But when he leaves, I'll go back. I'm a very good protector," she added nodding her head once before continuing, "I just like to go exploring sometimes, meet new faces, make new friends, you know? You will be my friend, right Daisuke?"
PostPosted: Tue Feb 17, 2009 8:46 pm

"All of the humans I've met are like this Masuhiro human. They chase me with gleaming sharp rocks on sticks, he didn't know it was called a 'meat cleaver', bats, and guns." He said with a soft scowl. "But it's good you protect your own." He added, his expression softening a little. Daisuke was taken aback by her question. He blinked a few times.

"Friend? How so?" He asked, slightly confused.

To him, friends stayed together, or helped each other survive. She was a house dog.

A pet.

He had no notion of being able to be friends with a pet. The concept was just too foreign.

Aysu blinked. Did he not know what friends were?
"You know, someone I can come visit and talk to and play with and stuff. I've got lots of friends. I've got lots of friends, like the park-dogs and some of the dogs that Miss Miya likes to set food out for a few times a week and... Well, I guess that's it, but they're all really nice dogs and I like seeing them and talking to them. I'd like to come here and see you more, too. You're a nice guy and I think it'd be fun," she rambled on a bit but then trailed off, her ears starting to droop a bit. What if he didn't want to be friends with her? Was she too talkative? Maybe he didn't like her at all and he was just being nice and friendly-like! Her ears drooping more with every passing negative thought.
