[Seraphiel]

Eraph was in a foul mood. He had been playing his usual games, pitting the tribes of the Domoria against each other from the sidelines and had played too well. They had assigned him to deliver a message. Him. Sure, he acted as though it was his pleasure to help "peace" between the tribes, but inside he was seething. "How dare they?" he growled at a branch that got in his way. He was on the edge of the Shadowmane's borders now. It was a short cut, he was avoiding a group of Miauen that he hadn't fooled. It was bothersom, but better than having to waste his time talking himself out of trouble.

He sped up. He was in Shadowmane land now. He didn't like the climate, it was too warm and his fur's snowy camouflage didn't blend in here. The sooner he was back to the cold, the better. He turned a corner. Whoah! He came to a halt and quickly backed up. There was a purple female in his way. He sighed. Drat.

Fixing a grin on his face, he casually walked towards her. His sky blue eyes shone and his halo gleamed as he fixed his head at a perfect angle. 'What weak willed female wouldn't fall for his act?' he thought with tired bordom, wondering how soon he would be able to continue on his way, as he said "Hello madam. I seem to be lost. Would such a beautiful lady such as yourself mind directing me back towards the savage north?" His manners were perfect, his eyes innocent, but his mind was already plotting what he would do when he reached his destination as he waited for her answer.

Dhanus was sulking. She was not an ebullient cat at the best of times, but today's little squabble with Grimmalkin had her feeling her feeling far more sullen than usual. Miffed, she'd taken off for one of her favorite spots on the border, where the hunting was usually good. And she was alone. Always alone. Until today, when some dark-pelted stranger showed up, asking for directions and being smarmy as hell about it.

"The savage north?" she said casually, licking a paw. "I suppose it's just past the regular north, which, I'm certain any Miauen would know how to reach. To get there, just keep walking past when you start seeing cats with fangs." She knew darn well what he meant, but that didn't mean she was going to tell him. If he couldn't figure out the cardinal directions, he was beyond her help. She vaguely wondered what he was doing on what was technically Shadowmane land; but if he posed a threat to the clan, it was little skin off her nose.

Eraph's smile became more charming. What? She just... gave him directions? Who could ignore his winning smile? Why wasn't she loving his attention? Usually he played this card and charmed his audience so much they would never think of causing trouble for him. It wasn't ego, it was people skills. Although he could continue on his way now with no danger of being reported to be tresspassing or any such nonsense, he was confused, and he didn't like being confused. Had he missed somthing? It was... odd. And she had used sarcasm.

He pressed further, not missing a beat. "Cats with fangs? Well, that's a relief. I thought there were bigger threats back north than teething kittens, but it's good to know they've all been taken care of." he countered, his voice enthusiastic, innocently lacking of humor.

"Teething kittens? Hardly. Nothing's more dangerous to a lone cat than a bunch of cold, hungry cats without a clan to help provide for them in their infirmity, you know. Or have you not been to the ravages of Domoria yet?" Dhanus continued to groom herself, not caring whether or not this dark-coated fool got himself ripped to shreds. "You certainly haven't been in Falori long; unless you're coming from lower Sisrak, you've been coming the dead wrong way since you left your clan." She was beginning to think he was stupid; no cat with his head fixed firmly to his shoulders was that smarmy when asking for simple directions unless he had either ulterior motives or two brain cells, and Dhanus was an utter pessimist at the best of times. She stared at him, eyes narrowed, tail twitching as she tried to figure him out. He was a dark creature; probably not from Sisrak. The heat of the desert would have made him highly uncomfortable. And what was that thing floating above his head? There was a sheen to his bright blue eyes; they were keen, not the blank, matte eyes of a dullard. Perhaps there was something else to this strange male, but if there was, she had yet to see true evidence of it.

He didn't like the way the purple cat was looking at him. His act was... failing. Who was this female who wasn't charmed by him? She actually seemed ready to pounce, her tail twitching sharply behind her.

Well, since it seemed doubtful she would cause trouble for him that he couldn't handle; he knew what he was doing in a fight, having grown up in the north, and she didn't seem the type to tattle or yeowl a summons to anyone else in the area, maybe it was time to drop the act. After all, he had a few questions of his own, and wanted to know exactly who it was who had been able to ignore his act, if not figure it out. He could see that he had already lost, even if perhaps she hadn't realised he was pretending just yet she was too suspicious to be anything but close. What kind of Miausen would figure him out so easily, be so close to the border, appearantly alone in a dangerous area, and have such scalding sarcasm? Eraph wanted to know, more than he cared about going unnoticed.

His expresson changed subtly, causing his eyes to seem less the blue of sky and more the blue of thin ice on a warm day. With a gently amused smile replacing his previous tooth-aching grin, he answered her challenging tone with his own. "In fact, no I haven't been in Falori long. You don't know a northerner when you see one, do you? Should probably work on that. I'm Seraphiel. Nice to meet you. But tell me, what's a lady like you doing so close to the border where any dangerous 'cold, hungry cat without a clan' can just watz by?"

"Knew you weren't one of us," she answered, quite satisfied with herself. "Knew you couldn't be one of them, neither, not with fur like that. But you're a bit far from home, aren't you, Northlander? Or have you a home to return to? I have one, not that does me much good. Supposedly, I'm guarding the edges of it, but I wouldn't risk my life for the cats in there," she said, jerking her head towards the jungle. "Not worth the claws in their paws, the lot of 'em. No, I'm out here because I'm thinking, and I can't do it in there, not with the others constantly asking me to do this or go here or watch this kitten or asking me questions about where I go when I disappear or who I speak to or generally getting up in my business." She debated melting into the trees, as was the way of the Falorians, but she decided against it. He didn't look like he'd be much trouble in a fight, so long as she watched where that metal thing went. Maybe she'd ask him about it... that is, if she didn't grow weary of him first. "And what's a gentleman like you doing so close to the border of the mighty Shadowmane?" Her words were poisoned honey, sarcasm cloying to each syllable, especially the word mighty. It was obvious that Dhanus found herself far superior to any of the Shadowmane cats; for all her youth, she was really a clever creature, and felt the ways of the Shadowmane were not at all conducive towards any sort of personal growth. Licking her paw, she smoothed the fur on her ear, completely un-self-consciously. Let him drop facades all he wanted; she had none to drop. As an afterthought, she added "Name's Dhanus, by the way."

My, she was chatty. Although it wasn't any information he could use, it was a nice change from what he was used to. "I know the feeling of being bothered for trivial things." he nodded. "I've been sent to carry a message. It won't even matter if I deliever it or not, by the time I get there the entire problem will probably have changed. Essentially, my current trip is useless. As usually are the attempts at diplomacy in the snows." His feelings towards his own homeland were as obvious as hers.

"Sorry for bothering you. Shadowmane sometimes sends sentries up here who take their job seriously and try to actually stop passerby. They're usually pretty easy to fool, anyone silly enought to agree to guard up here is either naive or just plain stupid. No offense meant. Good place to think, though, as long as you're paying attention." She could probably have run away if a meaner cat had come along. He doubted her fighting ability. She was a female. Although girls could be just as tough as guys, most of them didn't even try to learn combat. It was a shame.

This was certainly more fun than bounding over the ice, though. He didn't really feel like even bothing to deliver the message anymore. Maybe the warmer climate wasn't so bad. He streached lazily.
