Coming back to school for second semester, I have two music classes: Orchestra, in which I play a white violin with blood all over it, and Choir, which I was quite scared to take, because I have this fear of singing in front of people, which is why I took Choir in the first place. Now then. Choir today was interesting. I learned you can't just join the class: you have to audition for it, so that she can tell you what your range is. I went through the class like everyone else, singing under my breath, then at the end of the class, when everyone left, I had to audition. I basically sang with the piano. I was informed afterwards that A) I'm in the class, and B) my range is tenor, which is the highest possible male voice besides countertenor, which in all honesty I probably am, since I didn't sing as high as I could. An example: I sing along, rather often, to this. My friend thought I would be baritone. Yeah. I win. Anyone else ever been in Choir? And if so, I'm curious as to what your ranges were. P.S. I suddenly find myself wishing my mom was home so I could sing for her. Hopefully that's not temporary, I've never wanted to do that before.

I want to hear you sing. D:<
I'm okay with it but I never joined Choir out of fear. I also don't sing well in groups, haha."If your stomach feels weak my work here is DONE."

I was in Choir in elementary school. I hated it. I used to ditch and I'd always get in trouble for that. I hate being told what and how to sing. I have my own style and I like to stick to it. And therefore, I don't know what my range is.
But congrats on getting in!

I was in a choir in gymnasiet (approximate Swedish equivalent of high school), but we never got around to determining exactly what my range is...

I've been in it once, when I was little. Never again, I tell you. I don't know what my range is, though. I am neither high nor low, so probably something in the middle. I like singing Disney songs. They're very enjoyable.

I was in Chorus in middle school, and I sang and played piano in the church choir from ages 6-17. My official range is Soprano, but I actually can go a full 4 octaves. But like Clem said, I really don't like being told what to sing and how to sing it, so it really didn't work out all that well.

Firstly, Congratulations! Record a few tracks for us won't you? If you want super high vocal work check this out! Oh and turn it up loud.
I was in and out of singing groups in primary school. In my early years of high school a few friends and myself decided to embark on the magical and exciting journey that is the school choir. So we gathered ourselves, took the long road down the alley ((Yes we had to go down an alley.)) and entered the corner door ((For the door is located in the corner of the end of the building at the end of that alley.)) and entered. We all auditioned and mysteriously all got in. No idea what range I was put in but it was in the middle somewhere. Why did we do it? None of us can remember. I guess it meant we got out of class - something we were very passionate about. But when it came to the school concert - oh my ungods! There were other schools with us and one of their teachers was the conductor. ******** HILARIOUS. She was way too into it! Her eyes were popping out of her head and her neck veins were trying to break free! Amazing Grace has never been so exciting or so scary. And yes we quit after that.

So yeah. I'm somewhat frustrated. I've overcome much of my fear of singing (which is nice) but I've discovered three things in the process. First, I absolutely despise singing baritone and bass. I hate it. Second, tenor is nice, but for some reason, I can't sing it very well without the other tenor there. Third, I can sing alto perfectly. What with alto being a female range, this is, as you can probably gather, quite odd -- and annoying, since I'm not supposed to sing it. I just do on one song, where in the beginning the males aren't singing and the females are.
(By the way, on the way here I happened to notice Pink's thread asking where the hell I was. Oh, how my face changed color. I would attempt to hug you all, but for the fact that the laws of physics would get a bit irritated with me if I did so, and last time I irritated them I ended up learning that I can't fly.)

Y'know what would be amazing? If you were somehow able to sing MSI. That would be amazing.

I was in the choir. Was placed at alto, which is the lowest for girls. When I audition, I was placed in Soprano two but I didn't want to strain my voice. So I ask to be moved to alto since there were so few of us.
For girls there are Soprano one, the highest; Soprano two which is the group that can sing high and low; and alto is the lowest
Boys have tenor and baritone. Some boys have been able to be placed in alto though. Was really surprised when I met the boys choir

I like that song, by Coheed.
I was in choir for three years. I liked it. [: Audtions I thought were for chamber choir, which is like 'Oh look I'ma special kid' but in a good way. I was in concert choir, minus the third year, which I was in the concert choir class, but sang with chamber. >>" Not sure how that worked. I was a tenor as well. [: But I sang mainly alto, and started my first year in 2nd soprano. D: Soprano being the highest.
[: I there.

I was in choir in 4th grade, the year that I transferred into public school, as well as in the homeschooling group that I was in before. But the one I had been in before did basically Christian musicals, and this choir expected me to be able to play the recorder.
I haven't been in a choir class since, excluding musical theatre in 7th grade, which I joined in order to hang out with my friends, which totally did not work out when those friends ditched me in the summer between 6th and 7th grade.
I kind of want to try out for choir sometime, but I hate singing in front of people. My sister kind of started that, because I used to walk around the house singing, and she would tease me viciously about how I am so terrible. But when they gave me music to sing, I sang it the way I thought the words sounded like they should be sung, not like what the music said. So music teachers hated me as well.
I was told I was an alto, and that I should sing with a deeper voice. I never would. This is why I never got any of the singing parts in musical theatre. xD

So I measured my voice today, and apparently, I can sing anywhere from a middle bass (which I hate, and which hurts like a b***h to do) up to soprano I -- specifically, low E flat up to high F sharp. What I can do easily, however, and without pain in the case of the lower notes, is low tenor to soprano II.
Wooo........
Oi.
I want some string cheese. And a Slim Jim. confused
