Iselda felt that she was being left alone an awful lot these days.
Today Elena had decided that her new daugther was housebroken enough to go out with her and a few business associates, and so had ordered seats for them at one of the city's finest restaurants.
And it was a beautiful place, to be sure; even the toilets were decorated in marble and faux-famous paintings, large orchids and gold handling, as Iselda had found out when she had needed to pee and politely made this clear to her mother.
And though Elena was obviously irritated at having to take her, there wasn't much she could do about it - the girl needed to go. So they'd gone, and it'd all gone very smoothly, right up until Elena had washed her hands and automatically rushed out of the room.
Which left the toddler sitting on the floor, all dressed up and very much by herself. Hopefully her mother would remember that she had a daughter soon and come back, but you honestly never knew with Elena.

"I can go to the restroom on my own, Daddy," Kashmira said a bit sharply outside the door of the bathroom. "Go sit down and make sure that Rhye doesn't steal my shrimp. She always tries to!"
Dyer must have replied and left, because she let out a sigh of relief and stepped into the bathroom, looking for an empty stall in the very shiny, upclass place. To be honest, she was getting used to coming to these places. Her father liked to bring them here to meet with his partner and his family.
Or the upperclass clients who her Daddy had gotten off the hook. They liked to make grand gestures like this. She wondered how they would feel if they knew she preferred take out.

The little girl scrutinized the newcomer. No, definitely not her mom.
She let out an audible sigh, pleased to be able to do so without Anna's scolding, for once. Well, she couldn't wait here forever, right?
"'scuse me.. Ha-ve you seen mine mother?" Iselda pronounced each word with care, but it was obvious that she hadn't quite mastered talking yet.

Kash blinked, looking at the little girl and inwardly groaning. She had to goooo! But obviously this was more important--
Nope, she was gonna wet herself if she waited any longer. "No, but I'll help you find her in just three minutes," she said before rushing into a stall and dropping her tights.
A few minutes later she came out to wash her hands. "Okay, let's go find her. Can you tell me what she looks like?"

"Tall. Veryvery tall. Umh.." She thought for a moment. "Grey hair." That was about it, really. To her, her mother looked like every other person she'd met.
"With red dress?" The little girl offered her saviour.

"Oh," Kashmira said. That was totally not helpful, but she guessed kids only noticed that sort of thing at that age. She wiped her hands off and threw away the paper towel, offering her hand to the little girl. "Let's go find her, okay?"

"Okay." She gingerly took the other girl's hand, despite Anna's stern warnings not to do anything of the sort - but honestly, fuzzy silver-haired girls with tails probably weren't what the assistant had been thinking of when she made that point.
Iselda stood on wobbly legs, not entirely used to walking yet and would probably had fallen over if it hadn't been for Kash's hand. "You lead, yes?"

"Okay, I'll lead," Kash agreed, heading out the door and into the mess that was the restaurant. Being short in a high class restaurant wasn't fun. Women in high heels that looked like spikes tended to loom over you, mixed in with men in black suit pants and shiny black shoes. They all seemed to be wearing some rendition on the same outfit, making all of them look alike, especially when you were too short to see their faces.
Then there were the snooty waiters that gave you dirty looks, as if you'd infect them with your cooties. Then they made sure to walk around you by several feet, as if you would attack them at any moment.
"Do you remember what color she was wearing?" Kash asked.

"Red." But she'd already said that earlier, hadn't she? Iselda threw a veiled glare at the older girl, before huffing mentally; she did need the girl. "Shiny dress."
Not that that was particularly helpful; every woman in here seemed to have decided that sequins were making a comeback, and that they were going to spearhead the look.

"Oh, right, you said that already," Kash said, her eyes wandering over the adults. Red seemed to be the second most favorite color in the building, she thought with a sigh. And shiny was right up there in favorites as well. But she figured they might as well get started.
She headed for the first lady in a red dress she saw, tugging the little girl behind her. "Excuse me, ma'am, but--"
"Oh, not now, please," the woman said. "Don't they have a rule against selling nasty cookies in a place like this?"
Kash blinked. "Huh?"

Iselda blinked as well. That did sound rather like something her mother would say, but this woman was definitely not her mother.
"Run along now, children." The woman continued, sniffing haughtily and turning back to her companions.
"Not my mother." The little girl tugged on Kash's sleeve, frowning at the woman's back. "Nasty, but not mine."

"Your mom's like that, huh?" Kash asked as they headed for the next woman in red, hand in hand. "Mine's cool. She can change into all sorts of things, cuz she's a shape shifter. Does this look like your mother?" she asked as she pointed at the red clad woman at the table.

"She stupid." Iselda scowled, thinking of her mother's less than pleased reaction to her making a friend. "Sounds nice." She added benevolently to Kashmira's description of her own mother. Sounded nicer than her's, at least.
She surveyed the proffered person for a few seconds; "No. Fat." Her mother was not that large around the waist, she was sure.

"Why I never!" the woman said huffily as Kash pulled the little girl away. She had to fight the urge to laugh at that blunt statement, and a little grin pulled at her lips.
"How about that one?" Kash asked, pointing at yet another woman, this one chatting with a table full of what were obviously younger men.

It was lucky that the other girl had the sense to pull them away or Iselda might have gotten into an argument with the woman - she seemed to have quite the knack for doing that.
"Mother say real lady not talk too much. She do." She shrugged, indicating that the chatterbox was obviously not her mother either.
