Vidam yawned and streched himself out, his rainbow patten complimenting his dark coat. He'd had another restful night, but now he was awfully hungry. He sniffed the air, a herd of antelope not too far away. He crouched as crickets and heat bugs sung in the grass around him.

He slid along quietly, body low, as he found the herd. They were grazing, but a big horned male was pacing the perimeter. Vidam waited for him to be on the other side of the herd before he sprang, targeting a sick old male. There was a bleet and the antelop began to run, bounding into the air every now and then as he chased them.

As he neared the old male, a pair of horns rammed into his side. The angered guard antelope sent him sprawling, snorting as the herd ran, leaving Vidam with footprints and a mawful of grass and dirt. He spat it out.

"Bleh! Well that was just RUDE!" he snarled, shaking himself off.

Erebus has left the east, deciding there had to be more to the world then what his home had to offer. Not that he didn't love it there, he wanted more. To see and feel more. The desert sun beat down on his dark pelt, and he was a little overheated, but nothing to bad. He stood on a small rock plateau looking down on some grasses. There was a herd of animals he had never seen eating there. A movement to the left caught his eye and he could see a dark helix with gaudy bright markings. Poor thing. he thought, wondering what the attempting hunter's parents must have looked like. He watched the scene play out. He looked like he had everything under control. Doing everything right, it looked good until the big male of these strange creatures bashed into the helix and the herd was gone in a flash.

"Well now." Erebus left his perch and ran down to where the other lay. "That was quite a spectacular attempt. Failure, but spectacular. You alright?"

Vidam shook his fur off and blinked at the newcomer with a friendly, if a bit dirty, smile on his face. "Hey!" he said, popping up. "Yeah, I'm good!" He streched. "Those antelope can be pretty rough. Teaches me for hunting alone." He yawned wide and shook himself once more.

He then walked around Erebus, sniffing his fur madly. "Ooh, a newcomer! You're not from here at all. I LOVE your pelt." he said, tail wagging. "I'm Vidam! This is my little patch of paradise!"

One of Erebus's eyes twitched. "Yeah... I'm new here. Name's Erebus. What of it?" He asked, watching as he circled around, getting sniffed. His pelt was one of the finer points of himself, Erebus thought at least. "Paradise? Looks like a wasteland to me. Where are the trees? The water? The women?" If this male was all his paradise had to offer, there didn't seem to be anything of interest. Well, those beasts... Antelope were they? Well they looked pretty tasty. The thought of sharing meal of one of those with a nice female made his tail wag a little.

"well, this is my hunting ground. I come here when I'm hungry. I live about a kilometer that way. If you look, you can see my pool." he said, pointing with his nose across the flat land, to where a small patch of water shimmered.

"Frankly the whole freggin ground looks like water. So I have no idea what you're talking about." Erebus snubbed. "Do you hunt like that all the time? If so, it's a wonder you're still alive." He trotted a few feet away and turned around to look at the gaudy coat of this other helix. How could he live like that? The black fur, the rainbows? He didn't realize that a tisk sound escaped his lips.

"Just cause your not used to it. There's glass in the sand when it gets hot. And then the sun reflects off of it, and the heat waves rising up, and everything looks like water." he said, tail wagging.

He paused. "No..I only hunt like that when that male antelope is fast enough to react. One day I will hunt him..." he said. He paused at the tisk and showed his teeth, growling. "This is my home. Got a problem?"

"Did I say I had a problem?" Ere replied. He looked away. "Glass, huh? In the sand? What a silly place for it to be. Back home, humans use that in their homes to cover portals and entryways." This place was seeming more and more backwards to him the longer he stayed there. He hadn't realized he was panting so hard from the heat. He wasn't used to it, and suddenly passed out.

He was about to explain that glass was just melted sand, when his companion drooped to his belly. "Oh my. It seems you have become passed out." he said, not expecting a reply. He bit his new friend's tail with his maw and dragged him through the thin grass land to a large, shaded tree with a small pool of water beside it. He made sure his friend was in the shade, then began to splash around in the water, sending up small sprinkles of water onto Ere's face.

After a few moments, Ere let out a snort and wiggled his toes a little. "Is it raining?" he asked softly as a few droplets hit his face. He opened an eye to see he was under a tree. He blinked, confused and sat up. He saw Vidam in the water, and drag marks leading from off in the sand. How frustrating. Erebus frowned a little, thinking about how foolish he must have seemed to be felled by such a silly little thing like the heat. He grumbled a "thanks." to the rainbow helix. He didn't want to owe him anything- didn't want to owe anyone anything.

"It can make some people pass out, the heat. Especially if they're new here. But you'll get used to it in time." he said as a heat bug sung its bliss in the nearby grass. He yawned and rolled around in the water. "come for a swim." he tempted.
