--- Now can I eat them?
"No," Adrian responded irritably, knowing full well that the wolf disliked the taste of human flesh. How they knew that was another (horrifying) story that he really didn't want to remember at the moment. Besides, he was too annoyed to really care about the crazy wolf. The Recruits were late... again. "How hard is it to arrive to a drill on time? What part of noon do they not understand?"
Nightwing snickered silently to himself, tail swishing across the snow-covered ground in sadistic pleasure. He didn't bother to point out that his human had mixed up the time and had actually told the Recruits to meet them on the target practice field an hour after noon. Because this meant Nightwing could now watch the Drill Sergeant shout madly and then make the little kids run laps in the snow. How he loved his life.
"What are you grinning about?" Adrian muttered as he glanced over at the smirking wolf - yes, he knew when the wolf was making a facial expression. The man had an inkling that the wolf knew something and refused to tell. But that didn't aggravate him as much as the fact that he had been standing in the wet and cold snow for an hour waiting on those blasted Recruits.
Half an hour.
True, Adrian had showed up to the drill half an hour late... but still, that wasn't an excuse for the Recruits to show up late. If they didn't come in the next five minutes, there was going to be hell to pay - these practice rifles he had were starting to look very appealing.
Maybe they were here already, but then left when you didn't show up.
...oh, how he hated this job.

Keeva shot across the practice field, books pressed hard against her full chest. She hated to be late, so she had waited since noon close to the field, but still out of the cold and snow. Unfortunately, she had drifted asleep. It was moments to 1 o'clock now, and she couldn't screw up on her first day!
Huffing and panting, Keeva skidded to a halt in front of a man and a large wolf. Her bright purple eyes instantly fastened on the huge canine. Standing up tall, the young girl slid her books under her arm. "Recruit Keeva Brady, Sir," she announced, still out of breath and eyes on the wolf. "I'm here for the Rifle lesson."

Snow clinging to her yellow tipped ebony hair, cheeks flushed scarlet even as her sapphire eyes blazed, the girl skirted the pockets of ice and deeper snow piles as she hurried across the practice field. She was late but she'd get there in one piece. It wouldn't do to be both late and end up with a broken limb.
Skirting the final bit of ice, she slipped to a stop next to the other girl who'd arrived from the looks of things moments before her. Tucking her books under one arm, she pulled herself fully upright, boots clicking together as she did so. "Recruit Cassadaine Stevens, reporting for the rifle lesson, sir." It was a shock really that her voice wasn't shaking considering just how breathless she really was.
Eyes off the wolf, she told herself sternly dragging her gaze away from it and to a random spot beyond the Drill Sergeant.

Chehero came staggering into the field not soon after the other two girls, slipping on the snow as she ran Chehero was more pleased than ever that she wasn't carrying any books as they would have been sent flying about the field by now. Continuing her pace she looked up at Adrian, 'he looks pissed' she thought as she finally came to a stand still beside Keeva and Cassadaine.
Pulling herself strait she took a deep breath raising her hand to her forehead in a solute. "Recruit Chehero Asakuar,Sir" She pulled her foot in stomping it on the ground as she spoke. Her eyes dancing from the wolf to the sergeant before her. Her eyes begging not to have to make laps around the field she continued. "Sorry I am late, sir." Her hand still braced by her forehead waiting for the Que to let it fall once again to her side.

Jashua crossed the snow with ease. She was hurrying, certainly, but her height made the snow a very small problem. She had carefully arranged her books in a dark green bag hanging from her side. As she crossed the field she made sure to straighten her skirt and double check the buttons on her uniform to make sure they were properly aligned. After straightening her bangs and going over her appearance one last time she picked up her pace, arriving quickly next to the few others that were already standing there. "Drill Sergeant Black, Beta Nightwing." Jashua said politely, saluting each in turn, "Recruit Jashua Aldon reporting for class." She stated, keeping her voice even and her breathing calm. She had been through this class before but insisted she go through all her classes again, always trying to learn more and preparing herself for the bonding time, hoping this time wouldn't be another failure.

Monica slipped over. Her watch was wrong again, but there were only a couple of students in the class. She brushed some snow off her skirt and looked at the other Recruits. She looked at the Sergeant and saluted. "Sorry Sergeant Black, Recruit Monica Getz, reporting to class." She grinned at the wolf, it reminded her of when her Grandpa Jim showed her his wolf. "My watch broke again, and I got confused. I'm ready now." she said pretty eargerly. This was one of her favorite classes, and hated her stupid watch. Monica swore she'd get a new one.

The sound of boots crunching against the snow drifted over to the waiting ear, alerting Adrian of the hour late arrival of the blasted Recruits. Tardiness was not acceptable, especially if they wanted to be Wolfriders. If the bell rang to call all Privates to gather now, arriving an hour late certainly wouldn't do - the centipedes would've been all over the Fort by then!
You should lock them outside of the Valley for an hour, that'll teach them, Nightwing suggested as sent an image of the Recruits attempting to climb the Fort walls to his human. An undeserved punishment (especially since they actually arrived right on time), but still amusing.
That wasn't such a bad idea now that Adrian thought about it. He looked the approaching Recruits up and down, some familiar and some... well, he never bothered to remember names and faces. Although the ones that did show up were all females. They either had more of the annoying gender in the class this year or the males just weren't looking forward to using a gun. Odd, he had been more than pleased to learn that he would be able to handle a real rifle.
"You're all late," he informed them calmly as the girls stood in front of him, ignoring their salutations. Adrian stood with one hand on his hip, staring coldly at them with a look that clearly expressed his displeasure. "So as punishment, all of you get to run two laps around the Academy. Then if you haven't collapsed by then, maybe we'll have that rifle lesson."
The books! The books!
"Oh yes, those of you who brought your books," Adrian glanced around the book, slightly disappointed that some of them had been smart enough to come without it, "You can run while carrying them. And next time, do not bring a book to a drill - you should've read the information before coming to class."

Chehero let her hand fall to her side, what was with this sergeant anyways. She was positive she arrived on time, not a minute to late and certainly not a minute before. Clenching her fists into little balls at her side Chehero debated weather speaking up and letting him know was a good idea or not. After all seeing the mood this particular man was in, she figured letting him know he was the one out of line would more than likely earn her another lap around the place something she knew full well in this weather was something she would rather not participate in.
adjusting her mind and biting her tongue down as to not tell the sergeant he was out of line, she was the first to plow forward into a run through the deep snow. Finding that her footing was slipping every now and again Chehero grumbled, quickly adjusting her movements forcing the snow to work with her instead of against her. Pleased she was able to do so well she was even more pleased to be only second in this run. Whoever was in front of her she was determined to race down.

Keahi picked her way across the snow covered field. She might be a little late, but she wanted to drop off her books. "Shoot," she whispered to her herself when she heard the bells ring. She quickened her pace, until she was a few yards away. She walked up until she was in line with the rest of the recruits. She got there just in time to hear the Drill sergeant that they were late.
"Late? Weren't we told to came an hour after noon," she said, knowing she would most likely get in trouble for talking out of line. She didn't think it was fair to punish someone, when they didn't do anything wrong. Plus she was thinking she was going to be late anyways.

Grounding her teeth to stem any irritable but characterist flash of temper, the dark skinned girl saluted before turning on her heel and starting after the other runners. She'd arrived on time, and in one piece, and she'd read the information before she'd fallen asleep the previous night and again before she'd gotten to class. Add that to the fact that her brother had shown her quite a few things (many of which she wanted to use on this blasted Drill Sergeant) and she wasn't as bad most would think.
Maybe I could ask WhiteStorm to leave him a little present the next time he passes through here... The thought was darkly entertaining and it brought a grim but satisfied smile to Cassadaine's face despite the cold. Oh yes, her brother's wolf would be more than overjoyed to be allowed to play a little prank on the man, who at the moment, was the most evil being on the face of the earth. Forget the centipedes. The real evil was already here and it was in the form of that cursed Sergeant.

Two figures sat under the shade of a tree by the edge of the training field. The smaller of the two was perched in a relaxed fashion on one of the branches while the other, a much, much larger fellow lay underneath on the ground. How his smaller companion was able to get into the tree in the first place was beyond his reach.
The smaller form chortled lightly. Running laps with books? Sarge is goin' easy on this lot this year.
How so? The other asked curiously while watching the agitated girls run by.
Pfft, we'd run laps barefooted. In the rain. At night. During winter.
I doubt that...
It's true. Recruits just don't get any experience these days...
These days...? You left the Academy only two years ago. With only two months of experience, might I add.
...gotta point there.... Think Sarge is pissed about that?
Who knows. Not like he could scorn you for bonding early...
The smaller figure considered her friend's words. Yeah, yeah... R-E-S-P-E-C-T and all that jazz. the character replied with a dismissive flick of the wrist. Why d'you think that lot there has books anyways?
Target practice? The larger of the two suggested.
Maybe... A grin formed across the short figure's face. You should bark at the next group that passes, to startle them, ya know?
I'd rather not... Nightwing probably wouldn't be too pleased with someone else taking his job of picking on the Recruits. Besides, the girls might get suspicious why another girl about their age is sitting in a tree rather than running with them.
She rolled her eyes. Nightwing? You're still timid of him? I'm sure you're like waaay taller than him now. And why I would be running with those girl scouts when I'm here on "official business"?

Kaela hurried through the hall, carefully avoiding any possible collisions with any person along the way. It wasn't particularly crowded, but she couldn't bear arguments of any kind. Perhaps it was only a habit, or perhaps more--she couldn't say. Somehow she hated to be yelled at or to have someone upset at her.
And that was exactly the situation she was rushing into. Late, a brand-new recruit still "fresh and green," and small...a lecture or some kind of punishment was sure to follow. She nearly stopped to wonder why she was doing this to herself before walking a bit faster. She had to excel here, it was her only chance to excel in something. If only for her child...
She rushed out onto the field, hesitating as she saw a group of girls running. Where was she to go? Her blue eyes scanned the field and rested on a figure in a sergeant's uniform, the only male present, with a very, very large wolf. Timidly she headed towards him.
"Excuse me, sir," she began in a very small voice. Then a little louder, "I apologize for my tardiness... I'm a new student, and unfamiliar with the schedule." Now that sounded like an excuse if ever she heard one. "I intend to amend my mistakes."

Jashua paused briefly to stretch out before taking of around the fields. It hadn't surprised her in the least that he thought they were late, if her memory served her correctly something this had happened the first time she'd been through this class. As she ran Jashua adjusted the bag around her shoulder to be more behind her as, she was glad she had brought her books as the added weight made things more difficult, so once she got used to that she could take them off and everything would seem so much easier and quicker. Running was one of the few times Jashua appreciated her height, it made breaking through the snow easier, but as she increased her pace out of hopes to get this over with it hit her. The cold air was beginning to make her way down into her lungs, making it harder and harder to breath, like her lungs were trying to reject the air. Jashua slowed her pace a bit but forced herself to keep pushing on, this had happened before but she couldn't allow it to affect her during class, especially not with Sergeant Black. "You've got to keep going, you've got to keep going. You can breath just fine, it's just the cold air that's getting to you." She whispered to herself under her breath to keep herself going.
