Tihamah stood where she felt was the brink of one world and the edge of another. She stood at the edge of a river who's waters flowed deep and dark, and on the other side, beckoning her with fingers made of heat waves, was the desert. She longed to feel the hot sun caressing her skin, the warm breath of wind ruffling her fur, and the oddly comforting feel of sand between her toes. But she couldn't remember if she knew how to swim, and she didn't relish the thought of trying and ending up being swept out to sea. But she could taste her desire to be among those shifting sands as easily as she could taste a ripe berry, if she had one to bite into.

After a long while of bothering her roomies, Dulcie had been sent out with an advisement of finding something better to do. She couldn't understand why Flannery and Shula wanted her out. All she wanted to do was go and do something fun. She wanted to go exploring, or play in the snow, or even walk through the woods. But no one wanted to do any of that with her. So in an attempt to entertain herself she walked around eventually making her way to the river. The brightly colored stone immediately caught her eye and she became entranced. "I wonder if they go along the whole thing..." she pondered aloud. TO fill her brimmign curiosity, she walked upriver. Not paying attention she found herself bumping into someone else...

Having been so caught up in her endless pining for all things warm and sandy, Tihamah let out a squeak of surprise as she felt someone bump into her. She shook her head and found herself staring at another namir, one she had never seen before. Of course, with her moping about hiw cold she was all the time and driving the other namrah away, pretty much anyone fit into that category. "Hello," she said as her best attempt at coversation since her arrival, "Doesn't the desert look beautiful?"

Dulcie took a step back after bumping into Tihamah. She was thoroughly captivated for a moment by the pretty yellow orange color of the namir before her. She loved the color orange. When she was addressed however she snapped back to reality and took a quick look over the river at the desert. The warm golden sand looked very inviting and well...warm. As much as she loved the white and fluffy snow that currently laid at her feet, she had to admit the sand looked very comfortable. Quickly remembering she had been asked a question she looked back at Tihamah and nodded. "It looks very cozy! And the nice yellowy color spreads out like the white snow! I'd say it's very beautiful!"

Delighted that her first real attempt at conversing had succeeded, Tihamah took a moment to size the other up. She really liked the pattern on her ears and front legs, and her eyes were like the splash of a blue oasis in the middle of an orange desert. Why, they could BOTH very well be from the desert! Smiling more at the thought, Tihamah gave another pining look at the desert, then turned suddenly with wide eyes. "Say, would you happen to know if there's a bridge or something somewhere nearby? I really would like to get over there to the desert, but the river looks so big and.....well....I've never tried to swim before; I'm not sure I can."

Dulcie thought for a moment on this, her tongue sticking out a bit as she went over her walk to where she was now. She hadn't noticed any sort of bridge...She would have noticed the break in the pretty little rocks. Her mind drifted for a moment to the rocks but she shook her head to pull herself back on track. "Well I didn't see a bridge back my way...And I dunno if there's one further your way..." She looked at the water for a moment and thought of swimming, then cringed slightly remembering that her and water didn't get along all that well. She looked again at the desert then got an idea. "Oh! Oh!" she exclaimed running around in a quick circle, "A log! There was a log back in the forest!" she smiled, proud of herself, "It's just on the edge and I think we could push it over here if we worked together!"

Tihamah's eyes widened at the very thought of finding a way out of the chilly, bone-freezing snow, through that horrible river and into the desert with it's warmth and comfort. But a log..... "A log big enough to bridge the WHOLE river? That's got to be one big log; do you think we can both move it? If you think we can, then I certainly will help you."

Dulcie opened her mouth and took a quick breath as if to say something, then stopped and looked down at her paws, somewhat disappointed in herself. "Well maybe not the whole river...But it was a big log! And I think if we worked together we may be able to move it..." she paused to think on this, nodding as she reassured herself in her head, "Yeah I'm pretty definitely sure we can move it together!"

Tihamah danced on her back paws, letting the excitement of actually succeeding take over. "Yes! Even if we get it partially across the river, it's that much less river to swim! We MUST try!" Tihamah turned and began to run toward the woods, paying little attention to the cold ground and how much it irritated her feet. Suddenly realizing something, she stopped, turned around, and looked sheepishly at Dulcie. "I forgot; YOU know the way to the branch. Lead me to it?"

Dulcie giggled at Tihamah. It was fun to see someone get so excited that they forgot something like that. Dulcie then smiled and began in the direction of the log. It was a small bit into the woods and covered with snow. It seemed a pretty decent size though not big enough to cross the whole river. Maybe around two thirds or so...

Tihamah was too excited at the prospect of crossing the river to be embarassed for too long. She bounded after Dulcie, trying to get as little snow on her paws as possible, then stopping as she saw the hulking form of the snow-covered log. "It's quite big....." She turned to Dulcie and beamed. "Let's go for it!" She walked over to it, placed her front paws on one side, and began to push. To her surprise, it immediately moved a couple of inches. "Look at that! Think this thing is hollow?"

Dulcie quickly made her way to help Tihama push the log. She gave it her best effort, the log moving a few inches more. "Well either it's hollow or we're really strong!" she giggled, thoroughly amused. She them looked at Tihama, "In either case it should be easy getting it back over to the river."

Laughing, Tihamah continued to push until it seemed like no time at all before they were once more at the river. She quickly helped to push it in and squealed with delight as it floated. "Hooray! It works!" She gave a leap and jumped onto the log, wobbling precariously for a few seconds. "Come on! We can probably jump the rest of the way if we time it right!"

Dulcie looked at the log as it sat in the water. Her eyes drifted from the log to the water, from the water to the desert sand, from the sand to Tihama, and then once more to the log. Dulcie was not a fan of water when it wasn't in it's soft and snowy form. That came from her mother's side of the family. However, sizing up distances, she figured a quick dash along the log and then a leap of faith towards the sandy shore could be successful. "You go first...I'm going to need a running start..."

"Don't wait too long!" Tihamah called back gleefully. She could hardly wait; the desert seemed so close, beckoning her from just a yard or two away. 'I'm coming!' her heart sang out, and with that, she dashed toward the log's end, gathered herself up for a spring, and leaped from the log as hard as she could. She felt herself soar through the air and it felt as though she had crossed an invisible barrier; cool air gave way to warm, and when she landed hard upon teh shore, it was sand that greeted her paws; soft, warm sand. Beaming, she turned around and called out to Dulcie. "Your turn!"
