For someone without a steady source of income, Sander had managed to take Ford on several surprisingly familial outings over the course of their first few days together.
First, there had been the zoo. Sander never would have guessed there was such a thing as Free Wednesdays, but there they were advertised right in the paper. The lines had been outrageous, but Ford had gotten to see penguins and cheetahs and bears, or he would have if he hadn't been asleep the whole time.
The circus had been a bit better, at least as far as staying awake was concerned. A clown had 'oooRAH'ed in Ford's face on the way in and the boy had spent the whole hour wide-eyed and staring, waiting for another man in funny paint to yell at him.
Sander hoped this indoor carnival would be somewhere between boring and terrifying. He pushed a used stroller carrying a sleeping Ford through the entrance, flashing the tickets he had won from a local radio station the day before.
"Where to?" he asked no one. Cotton candy. Every kid should have some cotton candy, even if he wasn't going to eat it.

" I wanna eat the apple made from candy and then the balloon things you said and Oh look " Taylor pointed excitedly" Penny look they have things that move and I could drive it." Taylor has no clue what a bumper car was until he saw two people collide then bounce away laughing. The idea that he could drive and hit things and nothing would break was amazing to the boy and he couldn't wait to try it out.
Penny laughed and just shook her head. An indoor carnival was going to be fun if a lot of scatterbrained running around doing things in random order. Still, " Food first Ok I need some sugar before you drag me all over hells half acres." That said she gently steered Taylor towards a food stall.

"Ford?" Sander leaned over the stroller and tapped the boy on his shoulder. He was rewarded with a sliver of blue eyes and a yawn. "Time for fun."
"Clowns?" Ford asked. Clowns were not fun.
"Nah, I don't see any."
Ford nodded and pushed himself forward in his seat. His wings stretched and shook suddenly, working out the kinks that sleeping on them had produced. He glanced over at the pink stuff his new dad was trying to pawn off on him, but his attention was quickly nabbed by a boy with a tail and wings of his own. "Hey, look," he said, lifting a finger he meant to point at Taylor. By the time it had risen all the way, the point had turned into a slow wave.

Taylor struggled to pull caramel of the bright green apple on a stick he held. The stick sweet substance was so very different from the crunchy sour apple inside and it was in his mind very cool. His headwings twitched a little in pleasure and the tip of he boy's tail tapped against the floor in happiness.
In the peripheral vision of his red left eye Taylor spotted the wave and whirled to catch sight of a boy in a wheeled contraption, a stroller, he wasn't allowed one Penny said becuase he could 'damn well walk on his own and she wasn't coddling him' whatever that meant.
Curious about the strange looking boy he wandered closer Caramel apple still in his mouth.
Penny watched Taylor closely and followed behind him carefully carrying a plate of funnel cake, This was a place for children after all it wouldn't hurt for him to try and go make a friend.

"Hello," Ford said, standing up fully for a change. He looked at the boy from top to bottom, noting the other child's different colored eyes and his caramel apple. "Da says there's fun here." He stifled a yawn, instead grabbing at his tail and smirking slightly as it loosely twined around his wrist. "Are you havin' fun?

Taylor smiled and nodded " Yeah but I wanna go on the bumper cars" he pointed to where currently several children were slamming into each other at full force and then bouncing away their bodies jerking from the impact.
Taylor's own tail lay over his feet , the tip tapping on the ground in excitement. " You wanna come?" Maybe if there were two of them asking then Penny would let him go right away.

Ford considered the whiplash cases Taylor pointed at before nodding. "Yeah, Da can I go?" he asked, words coming out in a rush. He turned and looked up at his father, who nodded.
"Have fun, kid," Sander said, gathering up the stroller and preparing to follow the boys. He was confident he would be able to keep up. Ford wasn't very fast. He turned to Penny. "Hi, I'm Sander."

Before Penny had a chance to deny him Taylor grabbed the other tailed boy and dragged him towards the bumper cars. His eyes by now had noticed that you could either sit alone in the bumper car or with someone " You wanna ride in a car together or separate and then we can see who hits more people?"
The pink haired woman smiled at the man " I'm Penny and that was Taylor" it didn't surprise her at all that her child had failed to ask for permission once he'd roped someone else into his plan.

Ford's sleepy eyes widened as he was dragged toward the cars. Unlike the other boy, it took Taylor saying so for Ford to notice that there were two people in some cars but only one in others.
"Sep'rate," he said, not able to stop his yawn this time. Ford wasn't inclined toward competitiveness, but driving looked like fun.

Taylor nodded and smiled, separate was fine with him. He hoped his new found friend would be ok, you needed to be awake for this ride and Ford looked pretty sleepy still.
Once the current group was done and they were let in to chose their cars Taylor headed straight towards a shiny red one and climbed in. While the ride runner man explained how to buckle up and stay safe Taylor worked on seating himself so he felt comfortable, also on planning who to hit first.

Ford spilled into his apple green car, plopping down in the seat and looking around at the other kids. He rubbed at his eyes and blinked. No time to sleep now. He only vaguely listened to the safety instructions as he fumbled with his seatbelt, but soon he puzzled out what to do and turned his attention back to the children around him. There was the new boy with the wings on his head. Ford waved, then grabbed the steering wheel in front of him.

Taylor waved back at ford just before the ride runner man jumped of the floor and buzzer sounded letting know they could go. Not wanting to hit his friend or get in his way Taylor swerved left, not quite turning all the way before slamming into a girl with curly hair that bounced and swayed from the collision. Taylor bounced a bit himself, grinning before pushing his foot to the pedal one more and steering towards the back of an unsuspecting victim. Maybe if he got himself turned around in a minute Taylor could work with Ford and they could be unstoppable.

Ford pressed his car's gas pedal gingerly at first, watching as Taylor sped off to do concussive damage to another child. Fun! He pushed his foot down further, getting clipped by a boy in a black car who looked as though he had been painted up like a clown before running through a sprinkler. Ford might have found it disconcerting if he hadn't been concentrating on getting his car near Taylor's.

Taylor bumped and bounced his car across the floor until and Ford were side by side. he pointed at an ugly teal car not to far away being driven by another boy who seemed to have zero steering capabilities. " Let's get him together" The pride boy suggesting wondering how far they could push him,

Ford nodded. "'Kay," he replied, but by then he was already too far away for Taylor to hear. He turned the stubborn steering wheel with all his might, bringing his car around the other side of the teal car. The jolt that resulted from Ford's crash knocked his teeth together, but he began giggling nonetheless as he sped off again.
