And thus, Voodoo found himself wandering alone again. Granted, that was how it was generally nowadays, but he'd been nicely fed a few days ago by another wolf. Granted, she'd been a bit of a ditz and he'd never really intended to hang on to her like he sometimes made a habit of doing, but it was somewhat strange finding ones self alone again. --Well, alone and hungry anyway.
The dark, small framed wolf padded along the convoluted forest paths, nose working to separate the smells of small game in the area from the older tracks of long-gone animals and various types of undergrowth. What he wouldn't give for the succulent flesh of a rabbit right about now. The days of rabbit (or, oh heavens, deer), were in the past now. Phantom had been Voodoo's food source, and without the cannibal wolf Voodoo found himself enjoying nice meals disturbingly less frequently. Granted, he hadn't eaten any questionable meats in that time either (which suited just fine with his stomach, thankyouverymuch), but on the flip side, he hadn't exactly been eating much of anything.
Bother it all; what he would give to stumble upon a convientally dead deer...

Well, perhaps the strange male would stumble upon a convientally dead deer. Unfortunately for him, though, that deer would have been stumbled upon before by a gray female Kalia. The deer around here were so delicious, she didn't know why anyone would leave a dead one randomly lying around in the forest. Oh well, it was another wolf's loss and her gain.
Munching thoughtfully, she mused over the wolves that she had just met: Kaya and Istas. Well, one of 'em was a wolf anyways. Kaya was actually a human girl who just happened to know how to communicate with the wolven kind. The gray femme had taken a liking to the girl and had thought of travelling with her or something of the like. Yet, there was Istas..
Pft, Istas. That female seemed like she had more of a bark than a bite. She had been thrown into submission by the furless Kaya!
No worry, though, at least one of them was dangerous enough to defend themselves. But really she had no need to even think about their well-being. They were big and grown up, they could take care of themselves. All Kal had to worry about was keeping herself a live, and thanks to some strange creature leaving a fresh carcass around, she most likely wouldn't have any difficulty.
Besides, these lands had proven that they weren't the hardest place to survive in.

The smell of food hit him like a deft mule-kick in the gut. Voodoo perked abruptly: head snapping up, ears twitching forward, being suddenly stilling down to the last flickering hair. He inhaled deeply, reveling momentarily in the smell of meat. Oh heavens, deer; it was as if whoever was 'Up There' had been listening to his petty woes. After a bit more inspection, however, the slightly less notable smell of another wolf lay beneath the stronger scent of a feed. Damn.
Voodoo wilted, glaring in the direction of the smell. For a moment, he considered slinking on -- being sure to give the wolf and the carcass a wide berth. However...well, he'd learned from experience that it seemed like most of the wolf population about didn't exactly jealously guard their so-called belongings, especially not the 'lone' wolves. He'd even managed to chase off two or three from a kill, practically from sheer surprise, despite his size. Even so, quite a few had been willing to simply give him bits of food (which was utterly illogical to him, but he wasn't complaining if it kept his belly full).
So, after a bit of consideration, he turned toward the smell of the carcass despite the wolf-smell accompanying it. What did he have to lose, anyway? A bit of skin off his neck wasn't going to hurt him much; besides, he knew how to run fast if there was a need. There were advantages to being small: one could worm into holes most didn't even see. Despite his confidence, Voodoo did his best to make himself look small, utterly ribby, and completely hopeless as he came skirting through the underbrush in search of a meal.

Another unfortunate fact for the strange male, Kalia was in no way one of the wolves he had been thinking about. Never would she run away from a kill, even if she was surprised. If anyone snuck up on her, she would show them that it should never be done again. And she damn well wouldn't even think of sharing her meal with someone she didn't even know.
So, when Voodoo came pitifully dragging himself from the bushes. Curious, yet guarding her find at the same time, she stopped in her eating and even took a step closer. Such strange wolves lived around here. This one looked like a pup who had just lost its mother. And even though Kal had a soft spot for puppies, she felt no sympathy for this one.
"What do you want?" came her thundering voice. Too many times she had been interrupted during her meal. It was beginning to get old..
Of course, the gray femme didn't need to ask to know what the other wanted. It was obvious that Voodoo wanted some of her meat, if not all of it. Well, if he wanted it, then he could just try and.. take it.. from her. She gave a smirk then, one that made her look a little evil when accompanied by her blind eye.

Voodoo cursed mentally. Seems his luck had run out. His ears plastered themselves back, shoulders rolling forward slightly, tail tucking slightly. He had submission to a science. A quick whine -- nothing remarkable, almost as if it had simply slipped. Voodoo didn't slip anything, but no one but he and Phantom knew (or, if he had his way about it, would know) that. Absently, he shot a quick glance toward the carcass. One ear flicked forward, orange-brown eyes flicking back up to the bold female.
Another stretch on his luck. She was female. Oh, what he wouldn't give to slide beneath her and tear out her throat when she last expected it... Absently, Voodoo shook himself. No time to get lost in that particular thought. Instead, he promptly squished himself farther down, stomach practically in the dirt. Oh, he could play the omega well, thankyouverymuch.
"I don't suppose you'll be finishing all that?" He offered hesitantly, dipping his nose down slightly in vauge acknowledgement of the deer carcass. If he had been capable of shoving his ribs out, he would have. Unfortunately, physical boundaries limited that sort of action. Oh well; he'd have to make due.

Kalia wasn't fooled by his omega act, at least not yet. From her many months of travelling, she had learned to be on the safe side and be more cautious than was necessary sometimes. This seemed like one of these times. Why would a wolf like Voodoo, who in her mind seemed perfectly capable of catching his own game, want to have someone else's meat unless he was lazy?
When he asked if she was going to finish it, well, that just set her off. She had moved forward tensely and even growled loudly at him, yet he still had the guts to ask if she would finish it? Oh, alright, she could go along. Now the femme was curious as to how far he would persist and how much entertainment she could get out of it before she wanted to tear his throat out.
The growl from her throat sounded more threatening as she bared her bloody fangs. "What does it matter to you?" She took another step forward, ready to attack if he so much as made any move to take her food.
She was fed up with males at the moment, and this one was just getting on her nerves. But, if he chose to mess with the warrior who had murdered a whole family of wolves and a pack of dogs, then he could just be her guest.

Voodoo winced away, skittering uncertainly a few steps back into the underbrush. Maybe this hadn't been such a good idea afterall...--damn, he'd been to long among all those pushovers that seemed to be the dominant population of this area. He was getting slow, and stupid. Quickly, he tucked his tail further, practically pressing his nose into the dirt. The term was 'brown noser' for a reason.
"'M just hungry," he explained hastily, tone rising uncertainly up to the height of his register. "If you're intending to finish it, then by all means I'll move on but..." --he hesitated, gaze flitting quickly toward the deer carcass. His stomach churned longingly. "If you don't mind me saying," he murmured, attention flitting hastily back toward the female. "It's quite a bit of meat for one wolf...--even one of your size."
Those teeth looked dangerous; damn, where was Phantom when you needed him? Voodoo jerked himself mentally, chiding himself. What sort of pathetic thought was that? He didn't need the other wolf. Irritably, he settled deeper into the omega pose, peering toward the she-wolf questioningly.

Perhaps it was the fact that she wouldn't want someone to chase her completely away so rudely that made her feel a tad sorry for this wolf.... or maybe it was just because she knew she wouldn't finish all of the meat anyways and didn't want it to go to waste. Whatever the reason, though, Kal had decided that she could at least give him a slab of the shoulder or hindquarters. Now that was being generous, those were normally the juiciest parts of the deer.
"Mm," she mused to herself silently. Should she, or shouldn't she?
...
"Fine, you can have some, just... stop making yourself look like some pup who had been horribly scolded by its mother." And with that, she turned back towards the carcass, showing her back to him. There was no fear here, she knew he wouldn't attack. If he did... well, then he was just plain stupid.
Picking a decent piece of meat, the tiger shark-patterned wolf tore it from the rest of the deer's body and tossed it in his direction. She gave him some sort of look that seemed to say 'Don't say I never gave you anything' then afterwards she went back to eating her own meal. If he wanted more... well, maybe her mood would even out with time.

Voodoo immediately straightened himself a bit, managing to look thoroughly pleased. Well, he was a touch pleased with himself, but that was beyond the fact. Any wold given charity would probably look delighted. The dark wolf even managed a bit of a tail wag as he darted toward the proffered hunk of meat. He tore into it hungrily, pressing the main hunk down as he pulled strings of muscle of flesh from the main of the 'donation.' Voodoo ate quickly, and greedily -- as if half paranoid the she-wold might change her mind, or that someone else might come springing from the bushes to chase him away from his first decent meal in days. Which, while marginally true on his part, was also mostly part of the male's elaborate facade. He had practice; nevermind that nature had practically ordained his behavior with his size and strength.
Suffice to say, deer was far more appetizing, and remarkably more satisfying than squirrels or other such small game. The meat settled like a comfortable weight in his stomach, the taste lingering in his mouth and in his nose long after he'd gobbled down the last bit. Absently, Voodoo quickly cleaned his muzzle: tongue running deftly through the fur and over his nose. Absently, he gaze flitted back toward the female.
"Thank you," he murmured sharply, head still lower than his shoulders, tone still wary. However, the male had managed to unfold himself a bit. Submissive, but not quite servile.

Now, normally she would have just gone straight back to eating. But this... Voodoo ate so fast that Kalia just had to stop mid-chew and watch. It was actually quite interesting. She had grown up with the knowledge that only the strongest and quickest get to eat, but this was ridiculous. This was a whole new definition of quick.
Hmph. Well, he wouldn't get any more from her at this point. Maybe if he bugged a little more, but then again there was no telling when she would snap. But what if he got too hungry and decided to just go at her in an attempt to win over the meet? This particular thought caused the she-wolf to growl lowly and send a sharp glare in the other's direction. Yet, realizing that she must have looked bipolar or something, she quickly straightened up and managed her features.
"Hungry, eh?" she asked, trying to make herself feel less tense and aggressive toward this male. Smirking, she turned back to the dead carcass that had been sitting there for who-knows how long. But it was still semi-fresh, so Kal just went back to tearing through the insides, not caring how much blood spattered on her precious gray fur.
Voodoo wouldn't get any... not even another drop of blood.

Voodoo stiffened at the growl, eyes narrowing a touch and head dropping half a fraction. Tongue running unconsciously over his muzzle, cleaning the blood and whatever was left of the meat's taste off his fur, he watched her eat for a long moment before shifting slightly, slinking a half step backward. "That obvious?" he retorted absently, ears flicking forward and then abruptly back again. He was eyeing the rest of the deer carcass like some vast hoarde of treasure, but the dark male wasn't making any attempt to snake closer -- particularly because he got a rather good view of the female's teeth while she was tearing at the remains of the feed. They were teeth he'd rather not have remotely close to him, thankyouverymuch -- at least, not without someone much bigger standing behind him that would be perfectly capable of chomping down on the female with an even more impressive set of jaws.
--But he was getting distracted. Then again, who wouldn't? It smelled like heaven, there was still an impressive amount of the deer left, and his stomach was giving little moans of hunger (all of which Voodoo told vehemently to shut the hell up; it couldn't possibly be that hungry). So, while the dark wolf didn't exactly make any approach for more of a meal, he wasn't exactly finding himself a way out of the clearing.

Kal smirked as he flinched at her growl. Obviously it had given him some warning to watch himself and keep his actions in check. Then again, she didn't think the growl was necessary. Her bloody teeth, she knew, should have done the job already.
Satisfied that he was at least truly half-scared, she went back to eating. Of course, it was strange tearing through a juicy deer carcass while someone was staring at it as if it was some holy item or something. So, once again, she stopped and narrowed her eyes at him.
"Are you never going to leave?" This didn't necessarily mean she wanted him to leave right this moment... just... she didn't want Voodoo staring at her food longingly like that. "If I give you another slab, will you stop staring at my food while I eat?" Okay, so maybe he would get another piece of meat... but only because Kalia didn't like being stared at while she ate most of the time.
Waiting for an answer, she looked over the carcass and tried to figure out what part of the food she could give up to the other. He would want more.. she knew. It was obvious. How could one eat so fast like it was going to disappear without being so hungry and wanting more..?

Voodoo perked visibly, head and tail coming up, ears flicking forward. Those hungry eyes sparked greedily at the prospect of more food. His tail flicked slowly back and forth in some poor immitation of a wag, the dark male inched a few steps forward. Quick enough, his head lowered just slightly once more -- apparently in an attempt to show respect or some such nonsense as that. Or at least, making it appear that way. Hell, if it got him something to eat...
"Yes. I'll stop staring," he assured her quickly, tongue lolling slightly, ears still pricked sharply forward. Hungry eyes; there was no other word for it: the male's gaze roving slowly over the carcass of the deer, the rest of him remaining remarkably still considering.
Maybe he'd eat this part a bit slower; keep eating that quickly and he'd give himself idigestion at worse, a slight stomach ache at best. Then again, this sort of meal was likely to leave him feeling bloated and utterly content no matter what, so what was the point? He supposed he could take some time to savor the taste, if nothing else...

Hmph. Good enough answer for Kal. When Voodoo has said that he would stop staring if he got another piece of meat, an ear flicked in his direction. Of course he would... she had had no doubt that he would take the meat. But his super-omega pose was starting to get on her nerves.
So, selecting another decent piece of meat that she didn't think she'd get to, she threw it once again to him with a scowling look on her face. "And stop looking like a bear is about to charge you because you messed with her cubs," she said in a scolding voice, like a mother to her pup.
Another flick of her ear and the she-wolf was back to tearing out the insides of the deer. Really quite juicy... but she also kept a close watch on the male. She didn't exactly trust him and his omega act. Plus, she was itnerested to see whether he would wolf this one down like he did the last piece of meat he was given.

Voodoo's ears flicked forward slightly, head coming up a half beat as the meat was tossed in his direction. It wasn't an overly large chunk, so he promptly snapped it out of the air, slinking back a few paces toward the edge of the clearing in order to wolf this piece down, also. --Well, he greedily snapped at the meat for the first few bites: rending the sinew from the main mass with efficient snaps of his jaws. After a few hungry bites, however, the dark male began to slow his pace, eventually picking far more neatly at the remainders of the hunk than he'd been bothering with before. With the gnaw of hunger at his stomach somewhat beaten back, it qiuckly became evident just how precise the predominantly black-colored male could be: small bites, careful cleaning of his maw, and then another snap or two at the meat. It was either an unconscious attempt at vague cleanliness, or he was doing it on purpose to prove something.
He wasn't half as folded in on himself as he had been before, though. Apparently that too had ebbed with the hunger; well, for the most part, anyway. Ears forward, tail significantly less tucked, he ate quietly at the edge of the clearing, pausing only to shoot minimal glances in the female's direction.
