Races
Schattenmann - The Shadow Men of
Niflhiem (lit: 'Shadow Man' in German tongue). Usually weak to sunlight, but may have a different weakness depending on their preferred rune, and emotions are a major weak point. Their strengths lie in illusions and magics. The quality of their voices are comparative to forces of nature, from a gale of wind to the sound of crystals shattering or water flowing. They assume human names to interact with the denizens of other worlds, but they have true names based on runes, that are hidden on Niflhiem's 'Runestave of Life'. Although the young of the race (under 900 years old) each look exotic in their own unique way, the elders (over 900 years old) have hideous, animal-like malformations to limbs and skin. The exact disfiguration varies and is unique to each member of the race. The race is mostly male, but females can occur - rarely.
Svartelf - Dark elves of
Svartelfhiem. Oddly enough, their land was named solely for their existence. They are shorter than 5 feet tall, with high cheekbones, pointed ears, and mushroom white skin, dark hair and black eyes. They would be considered beautiful to humanity save for a single part of their body, which has an animal-like replacement. This can be anything from a dolphin's flipper for an arm to a rat's tail on their rear. They are said to be minions of the
Aljunnu. Weaknesses are almost always light oriented. Strengths are usually physically based. These are expert artisans and love to carve and sculpt. They rarely live more than a thousand years. Their names are exotic, and difficult to pronounce with a human tongue.
Human - The denizens of
Midgard/Earth. Basic normal people with no real powers except a talent for using Runic Magic against the denizens of the other worlds. Weaknesses are varied, greed is usually among them if the
Schattenmann are involved. Strengths are usually few and far between, willpower is usually one of them if greed is not a weakness. Names vary with the ethnicity of the human, but a person of Nordic or Celtic blood will tend to hold better control over rune magic. Heavy knowledge of the Nine Worlds is a rarity in today's modern world, those who have it will be muchly needed warriors against the breach of the worldly veil...
Runes
Some liberty has been taken with the meanings of the runes, for roleplaying purposes. Gebo - Rune of sacrifice and gifts through a sacrifice. (High cost of a valuable gift)
Isa - Rune of Ice. Causes or controls freezing.
Thurisaz - Rune of thorns and passage. Valuable to protect an object or defend an area.
Kenaz - Rune of Fire. Causes or controls a flame.
Uruz - Rune of Worldly Travel, needed to pass to
Niflhiem or
Svartelfhiem.
Nauthiz - Rune of Holding. A valuable weapon to seal away evil.
Dagaz - Rune of Change. Turns night to day, truth to lies, white to black, etc.
Perthro - Rune of Gambling. Used to hold both sides to the conditions of loss and victory.
