Name: Adele Walgrave
Gender: Female
Age: Sixteen
Year: Sixth
House: Slytherin
Blood Status: half-blood
Wand: Ivy with a chimera scale core, very swishy 12.25''
Ethnicity: Caucasian (German)
Hair/Eye Color: (hair color) light brown with a strong bronze cast (hair style) although her hair is extremely long and curly, she usually wears it pulled back into an impeccably tight bun. She has grayish-green eyes and wears thick wire-rimmed glasses. Her skin is somewhat sallow and pale.
Although Adele is tall and thin, her build is much too harsh and angular to be considered beautiful. Like the rest of her body, her face is an amalgam of sharp lines. She has a strong jawline, well defined cheekbones, and a narrow, slightly upturned nose. Her lips, which are very full, help to soften her facial structure. With the proper makeup and haircut, Adele could be a very striking girl, however she puts little (if any) effort into her personal appearance. Her overall appearance would best be described as disgruntled and pointy. Adele has terrible posture, and usually slouches, especially when walking around the castle. She doesn't like to make eye contact with people (especially teachers). Her default facial expression is a slight scowl, which deepens when she is in thought.
Pet: Ixodes, an extraordinarily fat and lazy rat. Adele is extremely fond of him, although he is not as flashy as most of her classmate's pets. He spends most of his time snoozing and has, on more than one occasion, been mistaken for an exceptionally fuzzy sock somebody left behind the Slytherin common room.
Home Life:
Extended
The Walgraves are an old wizarding family whom historically have been sympathetic towards the principals of blood purists. Although they are far from poor, their wealth has declined significantly over the past several generations, due in part to their ill-placed support for Gellert Grindelwald. Adele's father, Magnus Walgrave, is the only male child of his generation, and thus through most of his life he has enjoyed a degree of favoritism. This however was lost when Magnus married Gabriella Wilkinson, a match the majority of his family strongly disapproved of. Magnus' relationship with his extended family, although not completely ruined, is somewhat strained.
Adele's maternal side of the family is an extraordinarily mixed bag of bloodlines and reputations. Her maternal grandmother was a witch of notorious beautify, amorousness and wealth, whom managed to produce eight children and squander away all of her money within her lifetime. Gabriella Wilkinson and her sister Geraldine were the result of a brief marriage with a muggle man. Adele has had very little contact with the maternal side of her family, due largely to her mothers efforts to disassociate herself from them in order to gain acceptance within her husband's family. Although she has several cousins of similar age currently attending Hogwarts, she prefers not to socialize with them.
Father, Magnus Walgrave, aged 47 is a member of the International Confederation of Wizards and is well known for his intelligence and cold logic. Althoaugh considered a strict disciplinarian, he has a strong sense of justice and is considered a potential candidate for Supreme Mugwump. He is a man whom commands respect, and gains it from most people he encounters. His duties for the Confederation call him away from home frequently, however he makes an active effort to participate in his family's life. Although he is an important part of all of his children's lives, he and Adele are extremely close, due largely to their similar sense of humor and intellectual leanings. He is an alumni of Durmstrang.
Mother, Gabriella Walgrave (nee Wilkinson), aged 39 is a stay-at-home mother and a notorious gossip. Despite her frivolous exterior, she is a talented witch, especially with domestic spells. She is a fantastic cook and enjoys throwing elaborate parties. She is very interested in the muggle idea of a “supermom” and insists on providing nothing but the best for her children. Unfortunately, Gabriella does not always think her plans through, and the best-laid intentions sometimes fall short. She and Adele have a tendency to clash with one another, especially if they are together for extended periods of time. She is a former member of the Huffepuff house.
Brother, Brodirick (“Brodie”) Walgrave, aged 14 is a fifth year in Slytherin. Brodie is not exactly the sharpest quill in the pack, but he does have a wicked sense of humor, and surprising moments of lucidity. Brodie has shot up several inches over the past summer, and has gained considerable girth. While he's not exactly known for his magical abilities, he has more than enough brute strength to make up for it. Growing up there were very few children the same age as he and Adele, and thus despite their differences they are extremely close to one another. Although Brodie does not play Quidditch, he is a huge fan, and can easily rattle off the statistics for every single team in the league. He's an average to poor student in most of his classes, but excels in Care of Magical Creatures. He also loves cats, and owns a large fluffy white tom named “Jack.”
Sister, Madra Walgrave, aged 11 is a first year in Gryffindor. Madra is an extremely exuberant young lady whom lives to cause controversy. She's bold, blunt, and isn't afraid of diving in to problems headfirst. As the youngest child in her family, her discipline was not as stringent at that of her older siblings, and as a result she tends to see rules as general suggestions. While she's a smart girl, she prioritizes her social life (and boy...for a first year does she have a social life) and tends to do somewhat poorly in school because of this. She looks up to Adele, and isn't above threatening her peers with the fact that, “you see that scary Slytherin over there—that's my sister, and if you don't give me that chocolate frog I'll tell her to hex you.” Adele is usually completely oblivious to this, and while she isn't exceptionally close to her younger sister, she enjoys hearing about her antics.

elitist

Her classmates are typically surprised (and somewhat dismayed) when they discover how little Adele actually studies. However, Adele doesn't like to think of herself as lazy. Ixodes is Lazy. Adele is effective. She's a quick learner, and is usually one of the few people in a class to master a difficult concept, but she will only study when it conveniences her. Likewise, she has a tendency only apply herself in the subjects that interest her. When she wants to learn something—she will learn something, not matter how difficult or dangerous it is. However when she sees something as pointless, she will do the minimal amount of effort (at least, this is how she explained her failing grade in History of Magic to her mother).
Adele is extremely fickle, and has a bad habit of effortlessly adopting guises for different social occasions. She's an eloquent speaker, and in the rare occasions when she is called out on these guises, she is usually able to talk her way out of trouble. Adele does not easily form emotional attachments to other people, and doesn't really have much interest in forming close personal relationships. She prefers having a wide, if frequently changing group of friends. She's excellent at figuring out what people's flaws are, and pointing them out. Unfortunately she has a very sharp tongue, and tends to forget that other people do not have as thick of a skin as she does.
Adele is impatient, especially with individuals whom do not learn things as quickly as she does. She is dismissive of people whom waste all of their lives cooped up in the library, and takes great pride in the fact that she can maintain a descent set of grades and a social life. She's a bit of a snob, and considers herself naturally superior to many of her classmates. Fortunately she has enough common sense not to announce this fact to everybody she encounters. Her elitist tendencies would best be compared to those of Horace Slughorn: she knows what she likes, and she knows that the key to comfortably obtaining what she likes is making friends in high places. Despite this her intentions are rarely malicious, and she never goes out of her way to make trouble with people. Calm in most situations, it takes a good deal of effort to get her riled. However, once she is truly angry, she's a force to be reckoned with. In addition to being an extremely competent witch, she is usually creative with her revenge, and will pool her wide variety of resources together for the sole purpose of making her target miserable.
One of the few subjects which Adele truly devotes herself to is magical theory. She is fascinated with the mechanics behind different spells and potions. She has ambitions on becoming a member on the committee of Experimental Charms.
A Deeper Look...
Adele carefully placed the tattered old hat over her head, I hope nobody had lice, judging from the look of some of their robes...woah!
She yelped as the hat began to probe the inside of her mind. She wasn't exactly sure what she was expecting, but the concept of a sentient hat caught her off guard. It was a pity really, that the school separated them at such an early point. Regardless of which house she was placed in, it would undoubtedly set other people against her. She looked over the crowd, trying to ignore the fact that all of their eyes were upon her (although undoubtedly they were more interested in what was for dinner than the placement of yet another first-year) and considered carefully, trying to remember exactly what her mother had told her about the different houses. It would be very useful to have companions in each of the different houses. Very useful indeed.
“Wilkinson's daughter, in the school for less than an hour and already plotting complicated social webs. Quite a mind though, quite a mind, a Ravenclaw maybe? No. No that's not right. I am not sure if they'd appreciate your approaches. I suppose SLYTHERIN is the best place to put you.”
Adele smiled demurely as the hat was removed from her head. Although she couldn't help but notice a faint glimmer of mistrust from a few of the students. She basked in the brief wave of congratulations and welcomes from her new house mates. She put on the face that she knew they expected. First year Slytherin, well bred and from a good family. Don't be too obvious. They'll catch on, she smirked to herself as she said, “Hello everybody. I'm very pleased to meet you.”
