Jo had never felt worse. Physically and mentally, she was sick.
It didn't take a genius to figure out she had done something horribly wrong. What had she been thinking?! She loved children and had always yearned for more, but fulfilling that wish with some random rouge? It was wrong. And besides that, she had hurt Murdoc.
She paced back and forth, her belly hanging and bulging out at the sides. Jo dare not go near any water no matter how thirsty she was in fear she might catch a glimpse of her reflection in the water. As much as the young cheetah loved children, she felt ugly and fat with cubs in her stomach. Last time she went into hiding until she gave birth, but before the father been there to help hunt and take care of her. Gods know where the father was for these cubs, and Murdoc had been the first person she had turned to.

Murdoc had been heartbroken. He'd thought that he was finally getting something good in his life. Someone was finally starting to like him, and he liked her... Loved her even. But seeing her swollen with child days before was just too much for him to take.
So he ran. He ran far away from their meeting tree, and he'd met many people on his way. His resentment built up until he finally exploded... But then he couldn't help thinking about her again. The male obviously wasn't around, since he hadn't seen him at all around her. Even though Murdoc was fairly ignorant about the ways of child bearing, he knew that a pregnant female could not take care of herself very well.
He came back, hunting on his way. He never was a great hunter, but he was able to catch some aging hares, which were now dangling from his maw. The cheetah walked back towards the lands he'd seen her last, and after a while of searching he found her scent. Breathing in deeply to prepare himself, he trotted towards her.

Although young and naive, Jo was not an idiot. How dare she come back to the male who was clearly smitten with her, and she with him. He might have been happy had she come to him slim, her delicate figure still in tact and no cubs inside her.
She had been glad he ran off, she wouldn't have known what to say to Murdoc. "I'm pregnant, take care of me?" or, "I'm sorry I'm pregnant, help?". But Jo was beginning to miss him. Tentatively sitting down, she glanced at her stomach and pressed a paw to it.
"He'll like you eventually...I hope." Suddenly, a familiar scent caught her nose and Jo struggled to her feet. Turning around, she watched silently as he padded towards her. Words failed her, she just stared at her paws. Clearing her throat, she mumbled,
"Thank you..."

The cheetah stopped a ways from her, staring at her large stomach. Those children should be his. ..Well, honestly he didn't want kids at all, not right now, but... still! His fur bristled slightly, and for a moment it seemed that he'd run away again.
But he didn't. He walked closer, dropping the few rabbits at her feet. He didn't look her in the eye, mostly staring at her stomach, and finally the ground. "No need to thank me..." He said softly, his voice rough.
"I'm not staying. But... I figured you'd need food brought to you occasionally... Since... well, he doesn't seem to be around."

Jo shifted her weight from side to side, listening quietly as he spoke.
It hurt her that he was angry, but she didn't really understand how to tell him she just wanted cubs of her own again and it had been an impulse decision. She didn't want to hurt him, she was just...uggh, it didn't even make sense to her, how was she supposed to make Murdoc understand?
"You're leaving? Why? Will you still leave if I ask you not to?" She asked quietly, glancing up from her paws.
"Besides...it's not like...Well it's not like I liked him. I just, well I don't know what I was thinking." Jo tried to explain, but the words were stuck in her throat.

He whinced a little, looking away. He still had some now dry blood around his mouth, but he didn't even seem to notice it. Not that he really noticed anything when it was coated to his fur.
Why would she want him to stay? She had choosen to do this... Still... Jo knew how to steal his heart and wrench it around. He grunted weakly and kept looking away, shifting anxiously. He wanted to stay... But how could he? There would be cubs staring at him when someone else's eyes. A constant reminder of how he wasn't good enough for her.
Something she said made his eyes snap towards her, narrowed slightly. He'd never really been aggressive towards her, but now he growled lowly under his breath.
"Didn't like him? So you slept with some stranger, someone you don't even like? Then.. what am I? If you turned to some stranger instead of me for warmth, you must... ********, you must hate me. Was everything an act?" His ears flattened, and he glanced down. "I know I'm not the best male, but... I... well... and you... I like you, Jo. That hasn't been a lie. You're the only female I've tried not to lie to. ..Not anymore, anyway..."

Jo shrunk back, her eyes returning to the ground.
"No....I-I wasn't acting. I don't hate you, either. I'm just...stupid I guess. " Her voice hardened. This was just making herself feel worse and worse. It had been an accident, she wasn't thinking! There was a list of reasons but suddenly none of them seemed good enough. She had screwed up, enough said.
"I like you too...probably more then you think I do. I...I guess that doesn't really matter to you now...I'm sorry."

No matter how much he wanted to be angry at that moment... He couldn't. He seemed to deflate a bit, frowning at her which his ears pressed flat. He had always been desperate for someone to even just like him! Now a perfect female was sitting her telling him that she did like him... But how could he trust her now? Could he ever?
Ah man. He was a sucker for a pretty face. The cheetah inched closer and eyed her stomach with a frown. Then he looked into her eyes, searchingly.
"Do you really? That's not an act at all?"

"I swear! I'm not that good of actress." She explained urgently, taking a few steps closer. "Do you believe me? Please say yes, I'm...well I'm not sure how else I can get you to believe me..."
Murdoc wasn't the type Jo usually noticed. She had always been attracted to the sweet, romantic, neat, types. But...she wasn't sure of it herself, why she liked him as much as she did.
However, she understood from the look he gave her stomach all was not forgiven. Not completely, at least. The cubs would come, and she still wondered how he would react to them. Hopefully the way a father looks at his cubs, but she knew how much this must have hurt him.
"Thank you, Murdoc." She said quietly, looking up at his eyes.

The male's ears perked a little as he stared at her, frowning. He was still unsure what to really believe for several moments.
But then he smiled slightly and stepped closer, his mistmatched eyes locked with her's. The one thing he did know... was that he didn't want to leave her. That feeling would be what he hung onto, for now.
Almost shyly, he moved closer to nudge his nose against her cheek, softly nuzzling her. "I'll stay... For as long as you want me to." He paused then and stepped back suddenly, glancing down.
"Um, I'll go take a bath if you want. I don't want to get your fur dirty." This obviously meant that he wanted to be close to her.

Although loving, Jo hardly showed affection to those she loved, besides her cubs, in public. She considered those sort of things private that weren't meant to be shared with others who might be watching. She was also still wary of Murdocs dirt caked hair. Although that day months ago in the rain had seemed to wash the dirt away, his fur seems to have gotten its filth back. But none of that really mattered to her suddenly.
Hesitantly, she stepped forward and laid her head on his chest, nudging it gently. She raised her head up and glanced at him.
"As long as possible." Pausing a minute as if wondering to say more, she finally smiled a bit. "That would make things a lot...easier." Jo explained, choosing her words closely so as to not hurt his feelings. She wasn't sure if his filth bothered him, or if he even noticed.

Murdoc stared down at her through half lidded eyes, a smile slowly spreading across his maw. If she truely wanted him to stay... Stay he would. Forever.
When she nudged his chest gently, he couldn't help but gulp almost shyly. It was nice, having her close to him like this. He'd never admit that he was also a little scared too, though. He'd never been this close to a female, at least... intimately.
Sure. There had been that... female... a few days ago. He felt terribly guilty about that now. He was a hypocrite for being so mad a Jo... But it still hurt. He couldn't deny that.
He nuzzled her a bit with the tip of his nose, which was one of the few places not completely filthy. "Alright... I'll go wash then." The filth didn't bother him... In fact he didn't really notice the smell... at all! He was used to it, probably. But he'd be willing to change for her. "I think there's a stream not far from here... We could go together?"
