Isaac looked up at the starry night, with a new blanket of snow sitting beneath his paws and all around him. It was night time, though he didn't feel tired. No, him mind was occupied by an unwanted image and thought, buried beneath his subconscience and caused him to feel ill at ease.
On the surface, he really didn't understand (or rather accept) the cause of these semi-insomnia he had suffered under for weeks, nor did he recognize the very day that this whole mess started, despite the proof located within his journal. Instead he thought that it was an anxiousness of something that was going to happen in the future, rather than in the present. No, he refused to accept the truth even when it lay right before his eyes, in the form of a journal he kept always at his side.

Iwona sat in the snow, by a tree, looking up. The moon seemed so bright out tonight, and it illuminated the hundreds of snowflakes that were falling. It was so pretty, and shiny, unlike anything she had ever seen before. A quick wind blew by and surprised her, she breathing out a warm cloud before wrapping her tail around herself for warmth.

Isaac stood up to walk home for the night, giving sleep another shot when he spotted a namir that made him freeze in his tracks. With a little wave, and a slightly nervous smile, Isaac greeted the other namir, "Oh, hi Iwona..."

Iwona looked over as she heard a familiar voice, and smiled widely at his greeting. "Hey Isaac! How've you been? Haven't seen you in a while." Her tail wagged happily behind her at the presence of her friend, she hadn't talked to many of her friends in a while, not even the squirrels who had seemed to disappear.

"I've been okay," Isaac commented, leaving out the insomnia part. She didn't need to know. She'd probably be able to tell on her own anyway. Hoping she didn't notice, he asked, "You?"

Iwona continued to smile and wag her tail, as her excitement was uncontainable. "That's good." She laughed lightly before talking about herself. "I haven't gotten to do anything. The squirrels are all gone. All my friends seem to be gone. I'm so glad that I could see you again!"

"Oh, the squirrels are gone? I imagine they're trying to get through winter as best they can," replied Isaac. He felt a little sad that that Iwona hadn't gotten to do anything. "Anyway, that's a shame," he commented, thinking a bit before adding on another part, "I'm glad to see you as well." It wasn't a lie, though being around her made him feel...off. In addition to a strange nervousness, that is.

Iwona nodded. "Yeah... My human said that they were probably hibernating, whatever that is." She shrugged as she tried to remember before standing up. She was sure that with Isaac around, they would have a great time. Something seemed off about him, but she couldn't put her paw on it.

Isaac stood up too, wondering if Iwona wanted to do something. He figured she would, since she'd probably been pretty bored lately without her friends. "So...would you like to go do something with me?"

Iwona smiled brightly, happy to have been invited to do something after so long. "Of course! I'll do anything you wanna do!" She giggled lightly, her tail swishing quickly behind her.

Isaac thought for a moment, wondering what they could do together today. Pushing aside the odd nervousness he had, he responded, "Maybe we could go ice skating? It's really cold today, and the lake's all frozen over. The ice is probably nice and thick too. What do you think?"

"That sounds fun!" Iwona said, bubbling inside with energy. She couldn't wait to go so she started walking off a direction, then turned back towards Isaac with a nervous laugh. "Umm... Where is the lake?"

"It's not too far. It's this way," he said, simultaneously pointing somewhere to the right. He was glad she thought it would be fun. After being lonely for so long she deserved a bit of fun. He could use a chance to unwind a bit too, though how much he could unwind around Iwona was up in the air.

Iwona looked over to the right where her pointed, and laughed. "Guess I went the wrong way." She jogged up to him and began to walk next to him towards the pond. "Do you think the fishies are sleeping?"

"Either that or they're swimming under the ice," Isaac replied. He tended to support the second theory as of late, since he heard about ice fishing, to be exact. "I think it's the latter. The ice makes everything colder, but I suppose since it doesn't freeze the water completely solid all the way through it doesn't affect their lives terribly. That's what I heard, anyway. Apparently if you cut a hole in the ice you could go ice fishing, and if that's the case then they wouldn't seem to be hibernating." This conversation brought him back to that day that seemed not too long ago. He was rather foolish then, thinking that the fish, being cold blooded, wouldn't have been able to survive winter.
