Appearance: Mr. Legs is freakishly compared to most of the other denizens of its habitat. At nearly three meters (10 feet) tall, it stands head and… well head (no shoulders) over the competition. Almost all of the height comes from its legs, which have three joints for easy pivoting, crouching, or shifting its weight. Its feet are large and flat, with two large toes, like an ungulate.
Throughout its joints, wiry tufts of hair stick out to simulate the grey leaves of the surrounding trees. (the trees, by the way, have more in common with onions or bamboo than the terrain variety – narrow, tall, with very few branches).
The main body is a somewhat teardrop-shaped mass hanging from two large muscle masses that work the legs. When not concentrating, the creature’s body swings back and forth to conserve energy. Three eyes near the bottom of the mass fan out in a frontal arc, giving a 180 degree field of vision.
At the bottom of the main body is a circular mouth, with many small lips like petals closing the gap. The mouth has many very sharp spine-like teeth (1 cm max length) on the inside only, used for chewing. Mr. Legs has two, long, prehensile tongues that wrap themselves around small prey (the Terran equivalent of rodents or huge bugs) and drag them up to be digested. The tongues are not froglike in that they whip out; while they are fast while ‘lassoing’ the prey, they must first be drawn out.
Since Mr. Legs (for the first two meters, anyway) appears like any other tree except for the feet, it holds perfectly still for hours waiting for prey. It will typically consume three to four prey per day (which lasts about 33 Earth hours).
Mr. Legs’ skin ranges from scaly to almost glossy smooth, depending on the proximity of a body structure.
Lifespan/Reproduction: Mr Legs is, in truth, genderless. It lives 12 Legs town years (which pans out to 17 Terran years). It typically lays a few eggs via its mouth cavity into nooks in the trees every few months, entirely dependant on the abundance of food. It is increased body mass that begins the egg production. Mucous forces the egg to adhere to the tree. Upon hatching the typical Baby legs is 11 inches tall, but more or less is a minature version of the parent. It feeds on small bugs to begin, and works its way up. The parent typically plays no role in its raising.
