Kuji had never felt so trapped before in his life. As he nervously padded through the dangerous streets of the Outer Limits, he teetered on the verge of panic. This was the first time he had ever disobeyed his parents. This was the first time he had ever escaped his home. Most importantly, this was the first and only time the pampered lepus had ever been utterly, hopelessly alone. He could find no trace of the familiar amongst the bars, ruffians, and filth of the area. Even worse, he knew that his behavior betrayed him for the alien he was. Any passerby would be able to determine immediately that he was lost and afraid. They could tell at first glance that he was rich, defenseless, and naïve. He was an easy target.

Despite his precarious position, Kuji could not bring himself to turn back. An important Engage match awaited him: one that he would most definitely lose. His right leg had ached terribly for weeks and he was certain that he could not fight decently with such a serious handicap. He had hoped that the pain would subside with time, but the injury only gnawed away at his speed more and more. Asking his family for medical attention was absolutely out of the question. Any sort of weakness he showed would be considered a defect and might result in his being returned to CCorporation. He had been genetically engineered to be perfect; he could not afford to fall short no matter the reason. And yet he could not perform, either.

He had cracked under the pressure. Desperate for an escape, he had climbed out the window of his pent house suite and carefully descended the fifteen stories. The dizzy heights were nothing compared to the dizzying expectations he conquered every match. Such an irrational, flashy, reckless act was stupid, but the momentary freedom he enjoyed as a result was worth every ounce of the risk. Until he tried to blend into the Business District. Even amongst his own kind, he did not know how to behave. Therefore, he stuck out like a sore thumb. One of his neighbors, aware that he was not typically allowed to roam unescorted, alerted his parents.

In less than an hour, both CCorp agents and family employees had assembled to capture him. Should he skip out on the upcoming battle, both parties involved would lose a great deal of money. Naturally skiddish and quick despite his throbbing limb, he managed to evade them just enough to slip into the Outer Limits to hide. And now he was trapped. His heart pounding in his chest, he did his best to look inconspicuous as he navigated the dangerous territory.

He had no plan and nowhere to go. It would only be a matter of time before he was discovered... or worse.

Cyrus was bored. So incredibly bored, and was wondering why he was back in the slums. He'd upgraded, hadn't he? After losing his apartment here in the slums, Fayori had practically forced him to live with her. It wasn't that he didn't like being with Fay. He did. He loved her to pieces, and she was as much of a sister as he could get, they even went shopping together occasionally. It was just.....she was just.....so NAIVE. She was always so.....princess-like, it took someone with a stronger constitution than Cy to play her knight in shining armor. Besides, no matter what Fay's neighbors were thinking about her bringing a rough and tumble guy like him into their fancy, high-up neighborhood, he and Fayori were just friends. He hated to admit it, but he wasn't......into pretty girls. He wasn't into girls at all, actually. It was really the only reason that Fay let him stay at her house, in all reality.

He sighed, hating how at home he felt here in the slums. He wanted to make himself better, and be able to actually help Fay with the rent, and to help her out and take her nice places. He loved spoiling her, but how could he when he was so conflicted, and when he was so out of place in every setting save for this nasty little cess-pool? His ears twitched as he thought he heard her familiar set of lungs screeching at someone again. He SWORE it sounded like she was losing her temper, but he frowned, twitching his ears and tail and listening again as he stopped. Cocking his head, he shrugged. No more screeching. Hm. Maybe he missed her more than he thought? He HAD grown accustomed to her presence lately. It was comforting ot have her there, even if she was princess-like. Biting his lip, he shook his head.

"Cy.....you're going crazy, man. Just because she-who-must-not-be-named-or-she'll-mysteriously-appear-somehow isn't here, doesn't mean you should hear her for no reason. Stay level, stay calm, go to a bar and relax," he muttered to himself, watching the ground and keeping his head down. If anybody he used to fight with in the alleyway Engages noticed him.....well.....he'd end up in Fayori's tender care again. He didn't wanna put her through that again. Having him come home beat up, and having her worry about his safety wasn't fun. Ah, but real life, real problems, he guessed.

But Cyrus was jarred out of his thoughts by running into somebody and being knocked backwards. Crap. He usually didn't do that. He immediately bristled, much like an angry cat would, and his tail stood stock straight behind him. He was about to yell and glare at the person that had knocked him down, but he realized three things. One, he'd knocked the other guy down too. Two, the guy looked like he was about to have a heartattack he was so stressed. Finally three......the guy just looked out of place. He didn't belong here, just like Cy didn't belong in the ritzy part of town. It made Cyrus feel bad for him, and he calmed a little, his tail only mildly twitching with annoyance. Getting up quickly, he thrust his hand out to pick up the guy with a small 'hmph' of displeasure.

"Come on, Pansy McGee. Let's go, take my hand or not, you look lost and like you're about to wet yourself. I should be headed home anyways or my Fayori will worry, and you obviously belong in the nice part of town. Let's get you home," he said, his voice only a tiny bit annoyed, but for Cyrus, he was being a saint. It wasn't often he took to someone, though it seemed to be happening much more frequently as of late. First Haeme, although he hadn't really taken to him as much, he didn't think the guy was bad. Fayori, well, he always adored her even when they were little and she was still a pod, since he was slightly older than her. Now this guy was hitting a soft spot in him. He was getting lax and soft, and found him quickly dispising himself for becoming a pansy-boy. He hated that. But, oh well. This kid needed some guidance, obviously. Cyrus narrowed his eyes though as he noticed a muscle in the guy's leg twitch, and he knelt down, cocking his head.

"Scratch that. We're going to my apartment, and Fay is lookin at that leg. There's something wrong with it. Why haven't you taken care of it!?! A man's body is his temple, his livelyhood, at least in my world it is. What's wrong with you?" he scolded, picking the poor guy up off the ground entirely. He knew this was out of the usual for him, but....well, he felt sorry for the little misfit. He mentally barfed at himself actually. Fayori was wiping off on him entirely too much.

"My name's Cyrus, by the way. What's your name, pansy?"

Kuji did not have the sense to watch where he was headed. Distracted by his fear, he periodically glanced over his shoulder as he walked, taking his eyes off of the road ahead and nursing his growing anxiety. Any moment some CCorp agent might find him. Any moment some dirty criminal might choose to approach. Should he encounter either, the ordeal would undoubtedly end with a fight. That was the last thing he wanted. Unfortunately, because of his carelessness, he ran smack into one. Before he knew what had happened, the small lepus found himself knocked to the ground. Naturally, when the other hissed in response he shrunk back, trembling with both shock and fear.

"S-s-sorry, sir!", he stuttered, unable to pull himself together enough to stand. The stranger clearly belonged in the Outer Limits. He seemed right at home among the dark, ominous alleys and bulky daruma lurking about. That could only mean that he, too, was a ruffian. Kuji shuddered. It was all over -he had stumbled upon the wrong sort of guy. Undoubtedly, he had made a huge mistake by fleeing home. Now he would get battered without the Engage or its doctors standing by. He deserved such a fate for betraying his adoptive parents so recklessly. However, despite his defenselessness, the pain never came.

Cocking his head to one side, he allowed himself to relax a touch. What was going on? "P-pansy?" he repeated curiously. He could not imagine why he had been called a pansy. Wasn't that some kind of flower? His 'mom' had planted some in the garden on the roof of his skyscraper once. They had lasted a week or so before they withered and died from lack of water -the woman really did have a knack for not caring for the her possessions. Kuji could not for the life of him figure out what the flora had to do with him, but he decided he was not in the position to argue. Instead, he held his tongue and shied away from the brute's out-stretched hand.

Why was the odd male being so nice to him so suddenly? Was it some kind of trick? Kuji's suspicions cemented when returning to the 'nice part of town' was mentioned. So this Cyrus was a member of CCorp, then? The friendliness was nothing but a façade to trick him into trusting an enemy. "N-no way! I'm not going back," he protested immediately, somehow mustering the courage to speak up. Desperate to avoid his doomed match, the pampered kid attempted to bolt. He did not get very far; his leg buckled and gave out before he even made it to his feet. And then Cyrus confused him again. The older lepus seemed almost... concerned about his injury. Why bother behaving so kind? It was not like Kuji could escape. "Er... W-well... I guess you could say my body is some one else's livelihood," he replied meekly. His gaze dropped to the street as though her were ashamed of his condition. "I c-can't afford to be weak at any time for any reason."

As if the fact the he had failed to keep himself healthy wasn't degrading enough, Kuji found himself lifted into Cyrus's arms. A faint blush streaked across his features and for a second he was too surprised to react. Was this... normal? "H-hey! W-what are you doing? he exclaimed finally, extremely embarassed. "I c-c-can't go to your apartment! Mother says that other's peoples homes have STDs!" Not that he had any idea what such an STD was. It had to be something bad, right? "And stop calling me a pansy! I'm Kuji. I look nothing like some plant, okay?"

Cyrus laughed heartily as Kuji protested, both at his naivete' and his huge misinformation about STD's. He thought how insulted Fayori would be if she was told her home has STD's lurking around the corners, especially considering how clean she kept it. She was nothing like the bachelor of the house, of course that being himself. His room was atrociously messy, having a tendency to just drop things and keep on truckin' when he was done with them. Looking down to Kuji to catch the small blush, his ego inflated a little. Okay, so maybe the kid wasn't blushing because Cyrus was the knight in shining armor taking him off to get better, but hey. He was allowed a few self-ego-stroking moments in his life too, wasn't he? What was this kid's damage, anyways?

Talking about being someone else's livelihood, and not going back. Who wouldn't want to go back to that shining part of the city where everything was actually nice? Well, Cyrus and every other guy that was used to the slums didn't count. They just didn't fit in, not that they didn't want to be there. It was odd though. Couldn't ever be weak? Impossible. Everyone had weaknesses, and obviously, Kuji had a lot of em. Cyrus had never seen anyone more sheltered and strange. Looking down to the kid, he chuckled.

"You're misunderstanding me, kid. I'm callin you 'Pansy' because you're weak and frail, and look scared outta your mind. You wouldn't last two minutes in a real fight, instead of one of those pampered Engages uptown. Those are easy as pie, but the real fighting down here? There's no rules, and you rely on yourself to patch yourself up. Although I use Fayori..." he explained, or used to use Fayori anyways. She'd forbidden him to do illigitimate Engage battles from now on. She really did hate it. As Cyrus kept walking towards the tram that would take them quickly to Fayori's part of town, he looked down at the kid again and raised an eyebrow with a smirk on his face. "By the way, Don't let Fay catch you saying her house has STD's. She's a doctor, and would take huge offense to that. She's the girl I live with, by the way. Real sweet, if not spoiled a little. STD's, by the way, cannot be caught like the cold by just being in another place you're not used to. You catch them during sex, and only with shady people if you don't use protection. God, who taught you that? Because they are guilty of lyin' to someone way too innocent to be real." he scolded, giving out information freely. He remembered the last part from a brochure that Fayori had in her office, for all the teenage Daruma who were learning about 'sexual relations' and how to control themselves. Personally, he thought it was halarious that kids felt more comfortable talking to her than to their parents, but he wasn't about to tell her that.

She'd probably beat him with some random kitchen utensil. Most likely a large one. Like a pan, and she'd done that before, and it hurt like hell. You get decked with a pan upside the back of your head, and you don't wake up for a while. He frowned, looking up at the tram schedule, and sitting down in a seat to wait. The tram hadn't been too far from where the kid was, so he'd probably just gotten off or something. He sighed, waiting out the three minutes until it arrived, knowing he'd have to walk a block or two to get to his and Fayori's apartment after that. God, if he didn't look outta place uptown already, he would now, with some kid cradled in his arms. Oh god, he looked like a child rapist. The thought made him droop in mild depression for a little while. Why had he been born so damn rough looking? Ah well, he was usually a b*****d anyways, so he figured it fit. As he stared up at the tram schedule, he talked to the kid. Best to keep him calm.

"So, who are you running from? You've got that scared look that screams 'I know I'm gonna get caught soon' to the world. You look like a runaway anyways. What, did you have a fight with your pampered little parents? Not giving a damn about what you had in life, when others are suffering a living hell down here in the slums? You should feel blessed you even have that. I'm sure your parents love you, right? I mean, I'm not that great, but my parents cared about me. So did Fayori's. So, what happened that's so bad in your rosy little life that you felt you needed to run?" he quipped, figuring part of it was due to Engaging, from what he'd said about being weak. Even if he WAS built for speed obviously, Cyrus was sure the kid's parent's probably loved him. That was just the right thing to do.

Crap, he just realized. He'd have to take care of the kid, and had no idea how when they got home. s**t. He'd have to call Fayori, wherever she was. Didn't she get a call to be down here in the slums today? She hadn't told Cyrus who had paid her or called her, but he figured it was someone shady. Might as well check up on her once he had the little guy settled in.

Kuji was utterly confused. Admittedly, he did not know much about the world, but weren't people from the Outer Limits supposed to be cruel and ruthless? Was it normal for a complete stranger to abruptly pluck someone off the streets and carry him home? There was a word for that sort of thing... Kidnapping. His mother had warned him about kidnappers countless times, yet here he was literally in one's grasp. He should be scared. He should try to escape. However, he could not summon the courage to budge. At the same time, he did not feel threatened. Why run away from a guy who intended to help him? Relaxing slightly, he did not struggle as he was carried around. Until Cyrus spoke.

"I-I'm not weak!" Kuji retorted immediately. "Well, right n-now, maybe, but I have a pretty good r-record. And not all professional Engaging i-is easy." Especially not at his level. The hoards of money spent on upgrades and the extremely high stakes involved ensured that all combatants were experts of their trade. He might not have the experience or wisdom of a cut throat, but he could hold his own if he had to. He cocked his head to one side, "H-how do people in these 'real fights' patch themselves up? I don't understand. It's not possible to perform operations on yourself, i-is it? What do you do if a major blood vessel ruptures? Or if your arm bones get shattered? That happens to me all the time. I c-can't imagine repairing that on my own..." He shuddered.

Kuji was already embarrassed, so when he heard that he had been incorrect regarding STDs he hesitated before responding. Cyrus's answer explained nothing; it only raised more questions. Would asking then make him seem even more naive? One way or the other, he decided his curiosity was more insufferable than his pride. "My mother l-lied? Why would s-she do that? She never even mentioned 'sex'. What does gender have to do with catching a disease?" It made no sense. Why would that woman leave out such an important detail? All she emphasized was never going to an apartment alone with someone unrelated. Maybe he lacked 'protection' or something like that.

When they reached the tram station, Kuji suddenly found himself nervous again. He was starting to trust Cyrus, but he still could not afford to return to the rich district. The place was crawling with people he knew who would recognize him. If they spotted him being accompanied by some character from the Outer Limits, they would immediately call the authorities. And kidnapping was illegal, wasn't it? The lepus did not want his acquaintance to get in trouble any more than he wanted to lose his Engage match. "N-no, I would never abandon my parents! I had no choice. It's just.. My n-next opponent... I can't face him like t-this. If I was healthy, I'd have a chance, but... He's got a reputation for leaving his victims in pretty bad shape. And my family will have to pay a lot if I lose. I c-can't do that to them; they paid so much money to adopt me already. I'd never be able to make it up to them!"

He clearly was ashamed of his actions, and Cyrus's scolding did not help. "I k-know that I shouldn't have run away, but I don't like hospitals... They r-remind me too much of life back at the lab. And if I Engaged that monster... I'd end up i-in intensive care for weeks, I'm sure. As for my parents loving me, I don't know. I've only been around them for a f-few years. They're nice people, but I think I'm m-more of a guest in their household than their k-kid." The topic depressed him, and unconsciously he snuggled closer to his savior. "Please, s-sir... Just don't take me back. I'd rather die in the slums than burden them any longer."

Cyrus chuckled and looked down to the protesting Kuji. If he had a brother, he would wish it was like Kuji....okay, that was a total lie, he'd want his brother to be a little more....experienced than Kuji. At least in the ways of the world. For god sakes, not knowing what a few figures of speech were? Or a nickname? The boy had issues. He had a good pint though. Sometimes, even Cyrus didn't know how some of the back alley fighters came back from those fights to fight another day. Seriously. Not to say Cyrus hadn't had a few close calls of his own, thankfully he had a friend in Fayori to keep him alive and kicking. As he thought about this, the tram came, and Kuji was still talking, Cyrus only nodded as he listened, finally figuring out more about the kid, and more about his situation as he just carried the little thing on to the tram.

God, he was light as a feather, wasn't he? Cute and compact, that's what Kuji was. Cyrus frowned softly at himself, staring off into space as he wondered about that last thought. Cute and compact? Since when had he ever described anyone that way? Since when had he last taken care of someone that WASN'T Fay. She didn't count. She was a childhood friend, probably his only friend NOW, and always his best friend. Looking down at the test tube kid though, he felt a pang in his heart he hadn't felt in a long time. It was taught it was a weakness on the streets when you cared about someone's wellbeing if they weren't a direct team member or something, but something about this kid screamed 'notice me, take care of me'. Cyrus snorted.

"First off, Kuji.....never call me 'sir' again. I'm not THAT old, ya know. Secondly, to answer your first string of questions.....I'm not sure what they do. Thank god I have a doctor at my disposal or I would've died a couple of times. If you rupture a blood vessel and it's a major one, well.....everyone pretty much clears the area quickly and leaves you there to die. As for bones, they'll usually drag you to a safe place like a bar, or a buddy's house, or if you're lucky and don't own one yourself, they'll let you use a phone...." he informed, nodding as he did so. The boy had to be taught these things eventually, didn't he? Cyrus thought so. He couldn't be so sheltered and unloved like he seemed. Cy had never been in a house where the parents didn't love their kids, but he guessed those engeniered test tube babies didn't really have parents. Yup. He decided he was gonna be Kuji's family too, now. If the boy wanted him, anyways, but he'd bring that up later. He'd probably scare the kid if he asked now.

"Also. Your mother probably just doesn't want you to go outta the house. It doesn't seem like you get out much anyways, but that's just rediculious. I'll let Fayori explain sex to you. I'd probably be crude, use a lotta metaphors you won't know, and botch it up," he laughed softly, the tram already halfway home. How nice it was to have a permanent tram pass. Again, thank the stars for Fay.

"Welp. How about I take care of you at my place for now, and when Fayori gets back she can give your parents a formal doctor's notice to postpone your fight? Gets you some downtime, and lets you gear up for it a little more. Besides. When you get better, you could always come look me up at me and Fay's place and I could help you.....if you're not too good to take pointers from a seasoned alley-fighter. It's a lot more brutal than professional Engaging, so I bet I'd be able to help with this huge bruiser you're up against, eh?" he smiled down at the boy, trying to be incredibly unintimidating, which was hard at times for Cyrus because of the way he looked. He just looked like he was going to go crazy and stab you or something. But everyone who really knew him knew he wouldn't. He blinked as the tram doors opened, stepping out with Kuji. Walking up the stairs to the city above, he decided to take a shortcut though the backstreets.

"We'll be home in just a minute, so hold tight, okay Kuu?" he reassured the kid, looking down with a smile and twitching his ears, his tail swishing back and forth as he began to sprint through the practically empty backstreets to the apartment. There was a back door and an elevator, so he'd be able to rest there for a minute, to recover after sprinting Kuji's carcas around those streets so they wouldn't get caught. The boy seemed really paranoid about that, so he was adhering to his wishes. They wouldn't be caught, and Cyrus was a pretty damn fast Lepus, even on a bad day. This just wasn't a problem.
