The clock struck a loud chord, and a content sigh echoed through the empty halls. Had it been any other time of day Yukiko's soft voice wouldn't have even made it to anothers' ears. Class had been out for nearly twenty minutes and everyone who wasn't already in a club would have undoubtedly been picked up by limos or relatives by now.

With nothing important to do, the brunette freshman had decided to stick around and scope out the school that lay beyond her few classrooms and libraries. It didn't take too long for her to find the main building for the Arts. The first few classrooms turned out to be lecture halls, and the ones beyond that seemed like soundproof play and recording studios.

A short while after walking through the halls, it became to get slightly tedious. Yukiko peaked into a room to see a young blonde boy playing a clarinet, nope. The next room she looked into had a small group of girls warming up their vocal chord with an exercise that made their faces look very wide.

Finally Yuki checked out a room and found it to be empty. It had a grand piano off to one side and a bunch of chairs around as if it was expecting an audience. No matter, though. Since nobody had signed out the room she quietly slipped in and closed the door behind her. Alongside the far wall were music stands and risers stacked next to the shelves, signs of being unused. It seemed that today she could finally get in some piano playing without someone listening in and critiquing!

A big grin pulled at the corners of Yukiko's lips as her book bag dropped to the floor next to the piano. She adjusted her dress accordingly and plunked out a quick simple tune out of sheer merriment. Before she began playing again, however, she reached down to grab a bottle of water from her earlier discarded bag. She might have to stay after school more often!

A pile of papers and folders wobbled precariously in Miho's arms as she attempted to balance the papers and keep a grip on her book bag at the same time. Bring the work that she had to do for parties and the small amounts of work her father had her do to get her ready for the business allowed her to complete most of it during break times. However she had to cart all the papers to and from the car. Several strands of black hair fell in front of her face and she blew at them angrily, only to have them drop back into her face and tickle her nose.

She eyed the long corridor of music classrooms in front of her. The advantage to having the car pick her up in back of the school was that she didn't have to deal with the massive amounts of traffic as all the students were picked up after school, the disadvantage though was that she had to make her way all the way through the music rooms to get to the exit she needed.

"Ack!" Part of the tower of papers had slid to the side a bit and was threatening to fall. "Oh no, you don't" Slipping the strap of her bag over her wrist she gripped the papers more firmly.

The hair that had fallen in her face brushed her nose again, causing her to wrinkle it in annoyance. Finally at her limit Miho shifted her bag and papers carefully into one hand and used the other to roughly brush the irritating hair out of her face. The stack of papers began to lean dangerously far and she quickly used her other hand to attempt to rebalance them. Too late. The pile of papers toppled to the side.

CRASH

Miho winced as the sound echoed down the hall, the folders hitting the floor had made quite a bit of noise, which was only amplified by the quiet hall. Crouching she began to gather everything back into a pile again.

She reached down to her bag, intending on grabbing a bottle of water. Before she could pick it up, however, there was a loud collision sound from the hallway and her fingers impulsively flinched into a loose fist, her head spun to face the door. Water bottle momentarily forgotten, Yukiko stood up and walked towards the door where she peaked out the window.

The hallway was littered with papers and at the far end was a dark haired girl working to pile them back up. Yuki's mouth formed a silent 'oh', and she quietly slipped out the door to pick up the papers from the far end of the girl.

How weird, these seemed to be very important, business papers... but why would a school girl need to worry about such things yet?

She kept her eyes to her task, one arm holding the growing stack and the free hand picking up the many papers. If her hair wasn't pulled back it would have fallen more in her face than it already was.

One thing was for sure, these yellow dresses definitely weren't designed for being near to the floor.

Miho grumbled softly as her hair fell back into her face and reached for the hair tie on her wrist, only to remember that she'd stuffed it into into her bag. Glancing up in search of her bag she blinked at the girl at the other end of the hall. Miho frowned slightly, she hadn't heard the other girl approach. She would have noticed someone pass her and the door at the other end of the hall lead to the outdoors. The wind from opening it would have caused a virtual tornado. The meant that the girl must have come from one of the music rooms.

Watching the other girl's puzzled expression as she studied the papers, Miho chuckled softly. Carrying business and planning papers around school wasn't exactly something that most students did. Scanning the floor once again for her bag she spotted it, half hidden under a nearby pile of papers.

"Um..." Miho cleared her throat softly. "...excuse me." While she waited for the other girl's attention to shift to her she studied her. Miho didn't recognize her, which meant that she was probably a first year. What with the business and planning she hadn't really seen anyone outside class 2B that year.

Noticing that the next thing under the girl's hand was her sketchbook Miho sighed. That was her personal sketch book, filled with things that inspired her from every day life. Her other sketch book, the one for work, had been left at the office for her father's critique on the designs. She was so used to always having a sketch book with her that she'd grabbed her personal one out of force of habit.

Yukiko had just finished shuffling nearby papers into a folder when she heard the other girl speak.

"Sorry, I hope you don't mind me..." She trailed off. "I just figured that it would be faster if you had some help?" She stumbled over her words slightly, a nervous smile on her lips.

Maybe the girl didn't want her help, and here she was dirtying her paper, it did look official after all. She was only trying to help, but was it really her place to assume that her help was needed? After all, when was a sigh a good sign?

She was almost finished on her end, so she placed the sketchbook underneath the pile of papers for stability and walked towards the girl. Since she was still busy with her own pile, Yukiko didn't bother offering to hand it over quite yet.

"I apologize if they are too much so in the wrong order," Yukiko spoke more confidently as she bowed her head slightly.

Miho shook her head and sent the girl as reassuring a smile as she could.

"It's quite alright" She paused a moment to consider her words before continuing. "I just wasn't expecting anyone to be around, usually by this time of day the classrooms are pretty much empty." She berated herself a little internally, it wasn't the other girl's fault that she'd brought that sketch book. She really had to be more careful what emotions escaped.

Miho slid the last of the papers into her pile and tapped it briskly on the ground to neaten it. Brushing out her skirt she rose gracefully. "If they are out of order it's my own fault." She sent the girl a rather rueful smile. "I do know better than to try and carry so many at once, but I'm afraid I was in a bit of a hurry today."

Miho shook her head. "I suppose it just proves the saying 'haste makes waster'. Picking them all up took more time than making two trips would have." She nodded at the pile the other girl held. "Though that was a great help."

After eying both piles warily and glancing down the long hall, Miho turned her attention back to the other girl. "Would you mind helping me get those out to the car?" Her hand fluttered in a gracefully vague gesture. "If you can't, it's fine. I'm sure you have other things you'd rather be doing.

"Oh I completely understand," Yukiko grinned. "That is actually why I am here now. I prefer to play for myself and not to entertain an audience."

"Of course not! How could I possibly go back to playing for leisure when you need some help?" She placed the stack of papers on the floor with her hand delicately pressed on the top as she stood, as to not stir them further.

"Just give me a moment to gather my own belongings before we head off, alright?" She spun on her heel and rushed to the music room. It may have been more appropriate to walk, as on one hand, the other girl seemed more graceful herself, but on the other hand, she didn't want to keep her waiting.

She gathered her things and placed them in her bag. Slinging it over her shoulder she gently closed the front of the piano. She could come back at another time.

She closed the music room door behind her upon entering the hallway again and moved to pick up the stack of papers. "Sorry for the wait, time to go then?" Yukiko flashed a bright smile.

"You shouldn't need others approval or opinions on things that you enjoy." Miho nodded. "I completely agree with that." Her hand fluttered softly over her sketchbook.

"Thank you..." That question had probably been rhetorical, but she decided to answer it anyway. "It's surprising how little some people care about others problems sometimes." Starting to offer a hand to help the girl up, Miho shifted backwards a step to give the other girl room to stand. Feeling a bit foolish as the girl rose on her own, Miho used the lifted hand to brush her bangs out of her face once again.

"Yes, that's qui..." Her sentence trailed off as she watched the sudden whirlwind of activity. She shook her head slightly as she watched the girl disappear into the music room. It actually wouldn't have been unusual for a student to have refused to help, especially someone that they didn't know.

Miho's hand rose to cover a soft giggle as the other girl practically skidded to a stop in front of her. "Yes, of course, let's."

Her eyes widened slightly. "Oh. I almost forgot" She shifted her papers to her other arm and extended her hand, smiling. "I'm Tamura Miho, a second year, class B."

Following the older girls' example, she shifted the stack of papers to rest in the crook of her arm. Her now free hand stuck out as a big smile graced her lips.

"Yukiko Matsumori. First year, Class B. It's a pleasure Miss Miho." She offered a firm but graceful handshake, just like she had been raised to do.

She carefully adjusted the stack again and looked ahead to the hallway she assumed they would be walking down. "Maybe sometime you could keep me company? I'll play the piano and you can draw? That way we can have the company without any judging? Your choice."

She ducked her head slightly and began walking. She didn't want to impose in any way, but by the way Miss Miho's attention had turned to her sketchbook... she had guessed that they might be in the same boat. Of course, she was probably just terribly wrong in her assumptions and implied something she shouldn't have... but, well you can't take words back. Her offer of companionship still stood, just because they were strangers didn't mean they couldn't be friends.
