It’s taken me ages to write these words in print. I have been writing many things in notebooks all semester while on the go or otherwise away from where I could actually type. Now, it’s finally begun.

Seeking talented individuals to help run the shop!

I want to make something perfectly clear. I do not in the least want to be the sole column holding the shop aloft. I have seen far, far too many shops wither away and die because of one person being sick/busy/dealing with family emergencies for extended periods of time. My goal for hiring is to have enough people and enough divided labour that up to 20% of the staff could be away without noticeable slowdowns. That would mean that the work of absentees should be easily splitable among the remaining staff for the short term without being a burden to anyone in particular.

Clearance

The way we have ranks currently set up is that there are three clearance levels. While it is true that rank 3s report to rank 2s and rank 2s report to rank 1s, the clearance levels indicate the amount of unrevealed plot they have access to use. The less clearance you have the better: who wants spoilers? If I wasn’t so involved in weaving the plot, I would want to be as oblivious as possible.

Payment

When deciding whether or not you want a position, let me be clear: I want people interested in the shop, not in what they get out of it. I’ve seen too many people get their first “paycheck” (in art, gold, or other rewards) and skip town. Only apply if you’re here for the duration. Form of payment can be discussed.

RP Overseer
- Rank 2 Clearance
- Reads all RPs, notices trends
- PMs RPers with methods of improvement
- Alters ongoing roleplay by changing the situation (As per DM/GM of RPGs).
- Uses higher-ranking NPCs to have large effects on the plot (See NPC Actor)
- MUST HAVE: Strong grasp on grammar, spelling and the rest of what comprises the English language.
- MUST HAVE: Plenty of roleplay experience
- BEST IF: You have experience being the DM/GM of a tabletop RPG. The two translate very well.

NPC Actor (x2)
- Rank 3 Clearance
- Reads as many RPs as possible
- Uses NPCs to further plot
- Gets to play alien species not available to player-characters (yet)
- Develops intricacies in the ‘culture’ of the ship’s prisoners.
- MUST HAVE: Strong grasp on grammar, spelling and the rest of what comprises the English language.
- MUST HAVE: Plenty of roleplay experience

Universe Overseer
- Rank 2 Clearance
- Reads all threads and posts in Earth and Alien Concept forums
- Gives suggestions and criticism to ideas posted in the two forums in order to refine potential things to canonize.
- Gives final approval for canonization
- Updates Canon thread/forum (to be created) with approved material.
- Confers with Universe Moderators on most material.
- MUST HAVE: Good articulation and proper English.
- MUST HAVE: Strong sense of logic, insight, and quick to understand ideas.
- BEST IF: They have a strong scientific background. (See “Scientific Background” Below). A good understanding of history and law are a plus, but not needed, per se.

Universe Moderator – Function
- Rank 3 Clearance
- Reads all threads and posts in Earth and Alien Concept forums
- Gives suggestions and criticism to ideas posted in the two forums in order to refine potential things to canonize.
- Focuses on the scientific/functional aspects of the ideas posted.
- Gives primary approval for canonization.
- Confers with other Universe Moderator/Overseer on most material
- MUST HAVE: Good articulation and proper English.
- MUST HAVE: Strong sense of logic, insight, and quick to understand ideas.
- MUST HAVE: A very strong scientific background (See “Scientific Background” Below). This is not negotiable.

Universe Moderator – Art
- Rank 3 Clearance
- Reads all threads and posts in Earth and Alien Concept forums
- Gives suggestions and criticism to ideas posted in the two forums in order to refine potential things to canonize.
- Focuses on the visual aspects of ideas posted.
- Gives primary approval for canonization.
- Confers with other Universe Moderator/Editor on most material.
- If able, draws or outlines the designs for canonized ideas posted.
- MUST HAVE: Good articulation and proper English.
- MUST HAVE: Strong sense of logic, insight, and quick to understand ideas.
- MUST HAVE: Artistic Background (Experience with Photoshop/Painter or other major program, can draw decently, can create banners/minor graphics easily)

Art Director
- Rank 2 Clearance
- Organizes and assigns tasks to artists
- Primary individual responsible for banners/banner ads/signature ads
- Tags canonized material as needing base art.
- Certifies community art to canonization (and able to receive points for)
- Works with transformation director to generally “storyboard out” player character art (artists choose finer details).
- If able, draws or outlines the designs for canonized ideas posted.
- MUST HAVE: Good articulation and proper English.
- MUST HAVE: Artistic Background (Experience with Photoshop/Painter or other major program, can draw decently, can create banners/minor graphics easily)

Position Taken: Transformation Director
- Rank 2 Clearance
- Reads all Transformation Questionnaires
- Notifies those who have not completely filled them out.
- When a player character enters RP, uses questionnaire results to find trends
- Uses trends to pick alien/Terran species/technology for transformations
- Draws or describes general end result of transformation
- Confers with Art Director/Artists to develop plan
- MUST HAVE: Good articulation and proper English.
- MUST HAVE: Strong sense of logic, insight, and quick to understand ideas.
- MUST HAVE: Extreme amounts of creativity (we’re not dealing with simple half human half X’s)
- BEST IF: You have some artistic background (photoshop/painter basics, etc) and some scientific background, especially biology.

Artists
- Rank 3 Clearance
- Primarily draws player character transformations
- May be asked to draw other things.
- Draws 3-7 “stages” depending on event or character.
- Works with other artists/Transformation Director/Art Director to deliver best results
- Currently this position has the LEAST AMOUNT set in stone. If enough people are interested, we can have a discussion group of artists to come to some goals and plans.
- MUST HAVE: Good articulation and proper English.
- MUST HAVE: Strong sense of logic, insight, and quick to understand ideas.
- MUST HAVE: Artistic Background (Experience with Photoshop/Painter or other major program, can draw well, can create banners/minor graphics easily)
- BEST IF: you have experience drawing not so savoury creatures/settings. Unlike many B/C shops out there, we are not marketing cute puppies with bows. It’s a horror shop. (Tim Burton reference: less Christmas Land, more Halloween Town)


Flame Moderator
- Rank 3 Clearance
- Reads as many forums, threads, and posts as possible
- Ensures no flaming/trolling between members is going on.
- Calls for an end of discussions if members are not playing nice
- Reports to head staff any major infractions/problems
- MUST HAVE: Good articulation and proper English.
- BEST IF: you have some sort of forum moderator experience, with a dash of common sense in what should and should not be posted.



What a Scientific Background Means
A scientific background involves having more than a passing interest in one or more scientific fields of study, and being well versed in the general logic and organization of those studies. We don't want this universe to be "IT JUST WORKS," and have some explanation of how things tick.

You do not need to know all of these, but the more that you know, the better off you'll be. After all, you're creating new species, planets, or other things:
-Geography
-Geology
-Biology
-Astronomy
-Chemistry
-Computers/Technology
-Physics
-Environmental Science
-Meteorology (Weather)

Again, you do not NEED to know ALL of them. But if your position says "science background," people will be coming to you with nerdy questions.
