EQ Peyote

In the predawn light, Peyote made her way from Llune's Cave to the waterfall. One hand held a coconut bowl. The other hand held the hem of her tattered dress. She moved as quickly as she could with her light-loving eyes, stumbling and making noise as she went.

Sharp eyes and ears quickly caught the sight and sounds of the sun loving Pey. Autumn grinned as the new play toy seemed to be making her way to the water as well. As she seemed to stalk away from Blaze it would take long for him to see where she was going. Autumn was going to sneak up and scare the life out of Pey. As she silently made her way along the beach and treeline her mind touched Blaze's softly, *Not a word of warning from you Fire maker or you will pay in the lack of sleep you get for many a night.* She meant what she said. Should he tell Pey she was coming Blaze would be to scared to sleep for fear of what Autumn might do in revenge.

Blaze eyed Joy's nearly hidden form for a moment, then lowered himself into a sitting position in the grass, letting the distance and simple stillness be his cover. The sun was already heating the air, and the grasses shining with the dawnlight tickled pleasantly at his back. **I'll only warn you once; often times an innofending desert flower can hold the most vicious of fire-wasps. I'd quite likely be more afraid with Pey mad at me than with you. Because she won't be able to get you back right away, and she'll wait, and the wound will fester-** He cut his tirade short, giving her a mental "get the ravvit, girl!" of encouragement to drive away any doubt he might have put in her mind.

**But what do I know of Sorrow's Enders; maybe they're soft all the way through. Have your fun; I'll keep quiet.** From his watching point, he had a good view of the flitty desert elf, and he allowed himself the guilty pleasure of a snicker as he wondered how high the wolfrider could make her shriek.

Oblivious to the rather open mental communication going on right OVER HERE, Peyote stumbled her way to the water's edge, dropping down to her knees with a soft weary sigh. She put the cup down on the rock beside her and sat with her legs folded up to one side of her, a hand rubbing at a twisted ankle. "Stupid plants," she grumbled softly, bracelets jingling noisily as she massaged her foot. That done, she leaned forward, dipped her hands into the water and scooped a double handful to bring to her face.

Of course it was then that Autumn chose to slink through the grass and grab at Peys side from the weeds. Autumn closed her mind as she got ready for squeaks, squeals and whatever else the over expressive elfess was going to do. Trying hard to keep her mind from laughing to much before Pey flipped out.

As Joy's hand touched Peyote's side, there was a moment of silence as Peyote inhaled the double handful of water she had almost to her face. Her body moved, pushing from the rock and away from Autumn's Joy in a reflexive manner. It left Peyote off-balance and on the edge of the rock, where her sputtering sneezing-cough sent her tumbling into the water. There she splashed, sending up a shower of water as she fought to right herself, while coughing and fighting for clear lungs to breath. Her sun-darkened hands find the pool's edge and grip on for dear life. With that purchase, she pulls herself up and coughs. Her eyes scan about as the coughs ease, searching for the culprit.

It was easy to find Autumn rolling in the grass with a silent laugh on her face. She saw the skittish Pey was in no danger or real trouble and so it was funny. Before long she hopped to her feet still giggling but ready for Peys tirade.

Keeping his silence, Blaze watched the two curiously. Pey hadn't squealed, and the fall into the water hadn't been a frightened leap; more of a shoved tumble, so he was somewhat dissapointed in the lack of mirth of the situation. Rolling to his feet, the firestarter trotted towards the pair, worried that Joy might have pushed the desert elf over the edge in more ways than one. Besides, Pey didn't seem to take to water any better than he did. That mix of concern and dissapointment in his mind, he frowned and hurried towards the pair, stopping short of being directly between them, but offering the sodden, dark-haired elf a hand up out of the water. "Ya ok there, Pey?"

Peyote gratefully took Blaze's hand, pulling herself as much as Blaze pulled her, from the water. Her eyes had settled on Autumn's Joy for a moment, narrowed slightly, but she said nothing to the scorpion of an elfess. Instead, she answered Blaze's question with a terse, "Just soaking wet when I meant to stay dry. Honestly, some ill-mannered zwoots should be put from the corrals before someone gets hurt." She shook droplets of water from her free hand as she straightened, taking care only that the water didn't splatter Blaze, but little else. "I was just down here fetching water for a very sick Starsong, and minding my own business to boot. But whatever. We have a Chief now, so I'm sure he'd love to hear all about why I'm soaked ears to sandles and why I tardied in bringing him the water his mate so desperately needs." Clearly, by the tone of voice and the angle to her chin her words, while spoken to Blaze, were meant for Joy. "After all, some of us adults have very important things to tend do, like caring for everyone else. So, thank you Blaze, but really, I'm fine... all things considered." Tirade complete, the villager lets Blaze's hand go and turns to complete her task: fetching water from the pool using the hollowed coconut as a bowl.

Sitting up in the grass Autumn pushed her hair out of her face. It seemed Pey was unhappy as Autumn knew she would be but Blaze was too. Still that wasn't what caught her attention. {The Chief has a mate?} she wondered in silence. {How interesting.} Peys little tantrums didn't phase her at all. Standing Autumn got dressed as the fun mood seemed to be over. *I didn't hurt her.* was all she said to Blaze as she waited for his scolding to go in one ear and out the other as well. With a small huff she fussed picking grass and such from her hair. Clearly uninterested anymore in the goings on around her.

Blaze turned to Joy, and tired look on his face. **She has a point. Even if you didn't hurt her, you still made her angry. I'd be, too, untill I forgave you.** Slipping out of his pants and into the water on the downstream side of Pey, the firestarter balanced carefully on the steep, unstable bottom, a tight hold on the same ledge Pey had fallen over.. **You ought to just leave her alone unless she comes to you first.**

"Joy jus' was playin' tricks, trying to have fun. We didn't mean any harm by it. But get that water back to Star." Shuffling his feet in the gravelly bottom, he sat, letting the water come up to his chin. The feel of sand below him helped with the depth, so it wasn't too terrifying. "I hope we all ain't got the sickness from being holed up in that cave with her."

Peyote paused as Blaze started to speak, half turning his direction to level an unhappy glare at Joy. "I don't know. Dancer looked at it. Something about a scratch on her leg," she elaborated. A few more daggers were glared in Joy's direction before she turned and started back up to the cave, without a comment made on Joy just playing pranks. Clearly, Peyote was less than amused.

Pey could shoot all the visual daggers Autumns way that she wanted. It was only met with an amused smirk. Then she turned to Blaze as he sat in the water. *I don't care if she forgives me or not. I have tried several times to communicate nicely with her. She treats me like I'm an idiot and I am not stupid.* Her mind getting irritated as she thought about it. Her poor mood was returning swiftly. Autumn never seemed happy for long. *Maybe a few starts would make her more aware of her surroundings and not flit about like nothing would ever harm her.* Picking up a rock on the ground Autumn made herself a ring to go around her neck with a braided design.

The firestarter shook his head in warm amazement. **Stupid, rockskulled wolfrider. Don't you listen to anything I say? How do you even try to communicate with someone who can't hear your words? And how is jumping out at her like some fever-sick animal going to help that?** The tone of his send was far from accusatory, more the patient, gentle tone one would take while explaining a difficult concept to someone completely confused.

Turning and pulling himself up out of the water far enough to take hold of her ankle, he tugged her playfully towards the water. **Besides, it's your job to make shure there isn't anything around to harm her. You're the one who can smell the mountain-cats or whatever you have about these parts when they come prowling about. But come, it's too nice a day to sit around like a spoilt child. Into the water with you!** So saying, he braced against the sandy bottom and pulled for all he was worth.

The mind got ready to protest but was soon silenced by his yank into the water. She sputtered a bit but still came up with an evil grin. *Oh think yourself strong do you?* She stood and lunged at him. She was ready to wrestle him in the water if that was what he wanted. Her leathers felt tight as they became wet. She would have fun trying to peel them off in a bit.
