The waves lapped softly against the shore, and the side of the small sailing vessel that was run aground and tied to an offshore tree. Savvy breathed in the glorious scent of the salty sea air and heaved a contented sigh. There really was nothing like the open sea, especially for a pirate. Well, she wasn't exactly a pirate in all senses; she didn't have a crew. She used to, but her brother and the other freinds she had acquired in their kithood hadn't joined her in her sailing life.

Not that she could blame them. Faunus couldn't go near water without possibly putting his life in danger; Michel was a prince whose goal was to be queen so he couldn't just go gallavanting all over the world; and Scarth hadn't exactly gotten on good terms with her mother and now it seemed he was afraid to go near Savvy. She hadn't seen her brother in a while, though.

A small sigh escaped her jaws and she hauled in more rigging, climbing up the small mast to sit on the spar and watch the tide come in. She couldn't leave until it returned, so she might as well enjoy the calm morning, though it left ehr thoughts free to wander in ways she wasn't sure if she liked. Other than being unable to find her brother to ask if he would like to join her on her journeys there were two other Namrah who had caught her attention and in turn seemed to have had their attention caught.

Last time she had seen Michel he had said some strange things to her. 'You love the sea more than you do me?' That had been his question, and it had confused the heck out of Savvy. Since when had she said anything about love? She did love the sea, and she couldn't bear to be away from it for more than a few days, but since when had she mentioned anythng about anything else to anyone else? And then there was Faunus, who she had no clue what to do about anymore.

Another sigh escaped and she shook her head, focusing ehr gaze so that she could see the sparkling waves as they crashed beside her boat. It seemed that other than her jumbled thoughts she would sail out just as she had always done previously.

The same waves that lapped on Savvy's stretch of shore teasingly batted at Briny's paws as he trotted quickly through the shallow water. He had heard somewhere that his sister was setting out to the open sea, and he wanted so badly to get there before she cast off and it would be who knows how long before she would be seen again.

He had never gotten to spend a whole lot of time with his sister, save for when they were both little. It had been bumpy at first, but they had patched it up, and he had hoped to have one happy family. But before he knew it, Savvy was off living her own life, and his father Romsca was teaching him as much as he could. He loved his father, but there was one thing he wanted to learn that his well-meaning dad could never teach him; the ways of a pirate.

He always felt deep down that he wanted to explore the sea, discover its wonders and sample its treasures. Romsca was nice but he had no experience in pirating; all of that came from his mother's side. He hoped that what he was about to do would be okay with his Dad; he was grown-up now, after all, and could make these decisions. If not, then what was the point of not being little anymore?

He spotted Savvy's boat and increased his pace. I hope I'm not too late! he thought in a panic as he saw her up where the sails would go. Was she making her final preparations? He pushed himself to go faster and used the rest of his energy to shout. "SAVVY! SIS! WAIT!"

Well, she thought, leaning back against the mast to let her eyes slip down sleepily, there were her parents, too. Her mother had been a pirate before she came to Namiah. In fact, a lot about her past as a pirate was shrouded in mystery, a mystery which Savvy hoped to unravel in her travels.

Her father was not so much a pirate, and was actually more refined than Savvy would have expected her mother to fall for. It seemed his sense of adventure and his playfulness rivaled her mother's, so maybe it was okay that they had found eachother. And her mother did enjoy waltzing; she actually often said it was something every pirate should know, which confused Savvy more than a little. Waltzing had helped with her footwork in swordfighting and for her balance when she worked with the spars and the rigging. She shrugged, it was refined and helpful, that was all that was to it for now.

She was sure her mother was happy that Savvy had become a pirate as well, even if she did seem a little unnerved by it. Afterall, Savvy had inherited her mother's tolerance for rum and her inability to leave the sea for more than a few days without feeling empty. Her father she was less sure about, but if he had fallen for her mother she could imagine at least on some level he approved of Savvy's choice. What about her brother?

Savvy frowned, still unhappy about not being able to reach him to ask if he would still accept her offer to join her crew. This ship luckily could be sailed by one person, but two would make it easier and safer were she to run into any storms or anything. She always tried to pay attention to the weather and make sure the seas would be good for a long voyage though that was easier said than done. A storm hadn't caught her offguard yet, so she figured she was due for one any time.

Her ears laid back against her head as she shook it again. The subject of her brother kept trying to slip her mind. She wondered if that was something she was doing on purpose, or if she just wasn't meant to ask him to the sea. Her eyes blinked slowly and she sighed again, sitting up to hop down from the spar and through the rigging with ease to land on her back paws in the sand. It was then that the voice reached her ears.

Was it really, could it really be? She turned to see Briny running along the shore. "Briny!" she said, startled at his sudden appearance. She waved at him and held off casting her lines to set sail, wondering what had spurred his sudden appearance and if her earlier thoughts about him not being meant for the sea were trying to get themselves proven wrong.

Briny saw Savvy leap down and hoped that that meant she had heard his call. Just in case, he didn't slow his pace until he was almost at the boat. "Savvy!" He reached the edge and tried to hoist himself up, only managing an undignified scramble. "I don't mean to barge in like this, but I was wondering....well hoping, actually....that you'd let me come with you. I want to be a pirate! Can I come?"

He knew he probably seemed rather pathetic, begging to be taken on like this, and he had made his words come out in a rush; not even a four-syllable word, and he usually had at least one of those in his talk. Still, this whole thing was more like an urge; an itch begging to be scratched. He knew what he wanted, and knew what it would mean to him if he succeeded. He would get to be what he had always wanted to be ever since he knew his mother and sister, and he would get to spend some time with his sister, which he had been wanting for even longer.

"You want to come with?" Savvy blinked, her joy over her thoughts actually proving themselves wrong causing a grin to overtake her face for a moment before she cleared her throat and attempted to speak seriously. "It'll be dangerous and risky," she began, hauling in one of the lines, "We don' exactly have a set destination and we'll never quite know what's te happen next." Her tone was serious but her eyes were dancing.

After having searched and searched before, trying to find someone who would sail with her or to tell her brother that she was leaving, finally someone, her very brother no less, was here to join her ship. She smiled and narrowed her eyes, "Of course, if'n yer willin' te risk all that, I myght let ye be part of me crew..." She cast of the second to last line and held the last in her paws while waiting for his answer, making sure that this was what he really wanted before dragging him into the sea.

"Yeah!" Briny shouted happily, quite glad that he didn't have to clarify himself. He was hoping that Savvy would be able to discern past his excited hollering the desire for him to set sail and learn the ways of the pirate.

At her next words, he tried to put on a fierce face, but without being able to see himself, it looked more like he had just smelled something stinky. "It doesn't matter. I can handle danger and risk. Put me at your command; I will pass any initiation, ritual, or Herculean task that you see fit to put me through, o brave sister/captain!"

"Aye!" Savvy said, "Captain Savvy'll do fer ye!" She wondered if there were any tasks she could give him to do right away. "We'll be sailin' off now! Step to sharpish an' get up the jib te look out fer the reefs!" she called off for her first order. The reefs were already mapped out in her mind, but it didn't hurt to have someone keeping a lookout for anything strange that might appear, instead of having to dash back and forth herself.

Clambering a bit clumsily up the side of the ship, Briny smiled and saluted. "Awesome! I mean, aye-aye SIR!" He felt sadly rusty on his pirate lingo, but he was fairly certain that his sister had just ordered him to climb up to the crow's nest and make sure they didn't hit a reef when they pulled out to sea.

He grabbed the mast and began to shimmy up it, grunting a little and trying to hurry. He wasn't used to this, but he was bound and determined to prove that he could be a good pirate and was in decent enough shape to be so. He reached the top and peered down, not a bit afraid. "THis high enough?? And what signs do I look for for reefs??"

Savvy watched him scale the mast, her grin creeping into her voice at her next yell. "Schools o' fish, coral, crabs, eels, wha'ever lives in th' reefs!" she began, " An' unless ye kin 'amember te drop th' proper English an' get te yer pirate roots I'll be answering ne more o' yer questions!" She pointed ahead of them, then took hold of the small helm she had made for the rudder, "'At's our headin', make syure we dun' lose it!"

Blinking as Savvy finushed, Briny smiled past his worry. Well that certainly wouldn't do; he was sure to have a bunch more questions, and he had to get them answered one way or another. Seemed like great motivation for him to re-learn pirate!
He called "Aye-aye!" down once more and began to scan the waters for any sign of the reefs that Savvy had told him of. He saw plenty of fish, but none that would congregate as though living in a reef. He did see the water moving in a strange way off to his left, as though it were lapping against something unseen. He hurriedly rehearsed his shout in hos mind before relaying it down to Savvy. "Cap'n! Bit of a d'sturbance in th' water off th' port bow! Best steer hard to starboard!" Praying he'd gotten his directional terms correct, Briny kept his eye on the spot, seeing if he could tell what it was the closer they got.

"Aye!" Savvy called back, frowning a little as she couldn't remember a reef in that particular spot. Cranking her helm to the right, she took hold of it with her tail and leaned over the portside deck, trying to follow Briny's gaze to the disturbance. Her mouth moved without her thinking as her danger instincts began clammering and her steely captain side took over, "Keep yer eyes peeled! 'Tis not som'in' natural te cause 'at!"

"Aye-aye!" Briny called out, happy that the order hadn't included any sort of reprimand for his rusty pirate. He focused his gaze on the disturbance and his eyes widened as he saw a portion of the water seem to be sucked down into itself and a relatively small whirlpool formed.
Grasping in his mind the correct term for such a phenomenon, he called down to Savvy as he continued to keep his eyes on it. "I think we've got a whirlpool Cap'n! Jus' a liddle'un, but could be trouble!" He watched it in fascination; at least it wasn't moving, just sitting there sucking up the infinite expanse of water like an overgrown bathtub drain.
