Adventuring hadn't gone as well as he'd hoped that day. Mud was caked to his hooves and running clear up his legs as Jonquil wearily plodded out of the woods, wondering how in the world he'd managed to find the only section inside that wasn't frozen solid. At the time, he'd been terribly excited, and had nosed around until he was satisfied he'd explored every corner of the murky, swampy little area. The novelty had begun to wear off, however, when he'd slipped and ended up in the ice cold water up to his chest. If anything had been a wake-up call and an indication to pack it up and head home, it had been shaking his coat out after that experience.
Luckily, it wasn't snowing. Though he was still cold and in some fairly desperate want of warmth, he knew home wasn't far, and if he wandered into a village there would be some two-leggers he knew wouldn't mind helping him warm up. For the most part, he didn't actually mind humans, having met a fair few who were decent on the whole during his travels, but he disliked depending on them. Still, in the dead of winter, it was dangerous to have a wet coat.
Picking up his pace, he made his way in the path he had plowed earlier, thankful at least that he didn't have to shove his way through snow and encase his body in that. He was going to get sick at this rate, and as a grown stallion, he had no one to blame but himself. He'd failed to follow his own advice - take a partner with you when you go exploring, especially in winter - and he was being reminded rather ironically of why that was so.
Trotting briskly, hoping the exercise would serve to warm him, he spotted another Soquili in the distance. His ears pricked forward and he smiled, relief flooding him. Hopefully, they would know of a close place that was both warm and dry - and if not, he would be thankful for a little company until he got where he needed to be.
When he got close enough so that he could be heard, he called out, "Hello!" and tossed his head, a calm smile on his face. It wasn't anyone he had met before, but that was a good thing. Jonquil always enjoyed meeting others, and making new friends if he could.
