I have been diagnosed with aspergers for some time now, and my school has two ways of dealing with people with something in the autism spectrum;

the dumb class that need help with EVERYTHING
the smart class that need help with nothing what so ever.

I've always had a thing for maths, so i have been put in the second group, but the school ignores everything else i struggle with. they always try and get me up on stage to be the pride of the school whenever we have a visiter, but i can't handle it! i can't be with so many people around me, and staring at me! I always get called difficult and they're threatening to take me into the other class because i don't answer the teachers in lessons, im just not comfoterble with talking to the teacher and going up for examples, i'd rather just sit and do my work.

I have little weird things, like i need set routines that can be broken, i do stupid little things like forget to eat. I can't talk to more than one person at a time face to face because i just get too confused and frustraited, i can't go on feild trips in the bus because i can't be surrounded like that by so many people, but the school don't listen to me!

They constantly tell me i'm just over reacting, and trying to make things harder, or give the school a bad name, and they've gone and signed me up to go to some awards evening and give out the awards to the students and shake their hands, i just can't do it. but i've been told it my last chance to be a "team player" or i'll get moved down.

What can i do?

Have you tried explaining this to your parents on how you feel and such? In your shoes, if I were that stressed by awards events I would first explain my predicament to my parents to get their support, and then I would go to the principal and with their help try to explain the difficulties you are having with getting up on stage and being put in the spotlight.

Heck, a lot of aspies dislike that stuff. You shouldn't be penalized for one thing and praised for another. If you truly are intelligent enough to be worthy of praise, the school should also respect your decisions to not stand up in a public setting, instead of threatening you.

Anyway, please let us know how it goes, and good luck!
