Even though this series is from around 1986, it's still really good. Piers Anthony, who wrote this fantastical series and other books, is a marvolous author:

"There was a world where both science and magic worked and where magic carpets competed in the market with shiny new cars. Here the Incarnations of Death, Time, Fate, War, and Nature were real beings, caught up in a continuing effort to defeat the wiles of Satan."

That basically means that these Incarnations were actually people who held the offices of natural, or supernatural, forces. there are actually two more major Incarnations, which are Good and Evil, which are called God and Satan. But there are names for the other Incarnations too. The Death Incarnation is called Thanatos; Time is called Chronos; the three aspects of Fate are called Clotho, Lachesis, and Atropos; War is called Mars; and Nature is called Gaea. There is a total of seven books in this series. Even though these books are kind of old, has anyone read them? If not, I highly reccommend reading all of them. xp mrgreen

I thought On a Pale Horse was really cool (I'm old enough that I read it when it first came out). Somehow the rest of the series didn't really thrill me as much.

I agree. On a Pale Horse is the best book. 3nodding

I'vew noticed that tread with others of his books--the first in a series is really cool, then the rest just seem like uninteresting variations on that first book's theme.

On a pale horse was definitely the best. I still enjoyed the rest of the series though. I am a fan of most of his books.
