Writ was walking through The Scene aimlessly with his shoulders scrunched up for warmth. Christmas was happening all around him. The parties being held, drinks being passed around, food being eaten and presents being unwrapped.... He could have heard it with his long ears, and could have seen it with his golden eyes- But all he heard was the lonely piano music in his head and all he saw was sidewalk underneath his feet.

It's not like he didn't try to get into the Christmas spirit. He tried to sneak into a couple of parties. But even someone filled to the brim with holiday cheer- or shots- knew better than to invite a complete stranger into their home. Especially if that stranger hasn't bathed in a while. It wasn't even that he was hungry. Writ picked up enough office party leftovers from the Uppers dumpsters to last him for a couple of weeks. Which would probably explain the stench that was trailing him.

He was just lonely. The company of complete strangers seemed a lot better than what he was dealing with now. Coyote hasn't spoken to him since he tried to kill him. Crow was more or less gone, even Nuka ran off to the desert visit his kin.

Writ sighed, and the lonely piano music stirred on in his head.

Fish tucked the bag of bagels under his arm, wrapped his muffler around his face a few times, and stepped out into the street. Cold wind battered him from all directions, and he swerved around the corner and down the street, trying to keep close to the wall in order to catch the occasional warm blast from a heating lamp or air vent. His savings were basically depleted, so he was being forced to work odd jobs around the scene. Which was totally okay until they paid him in...

Bagels.

Oh well. He and his roommates would eat bagels from now until New Years. He didn't think anyone would mind.

"Excuse me," he murmured under his breath, squeezing past a tall, dark man who stank faintly like two weeks of rough living.

Writ looked up when he heard a familiar voice pass by him. He tilted his head. The kid sounded like Fish, and smelled of bagels. Food and company. A bagel dropped from the bag. It seems that his luck was looking up. Writ picked it up, and sniffed it. Poppy seed. The godling shrugged and wiped the street grime off with his shirt. After a quick inspection, he took a bite of it.

"Fish?" Writ called after him, still chewing on the abandoned bagel, "Is that you?"

Hearing his name, Fish turned and looked at the man he had just passed. "Writ?" he asked, confused. "You got... older. Are you taller? " He hadn't thought it was possible for Writ to get any taller. Apparently he'd been wrong. Geez, Coyote was really lacking in subtlety. Who wasn't going to notice a 6'2"+ Indian walking down the street?

He balanced the bagels on his hip and scratched is head.

"Is this something I should know about?" he asked.

Writ took another bite of his bagel and chewed thoughtfully, "Taller? Dunno. Haven't seen a mirror since it happened. But older? Yeah."

Fish hasn't changed at all. Knowing how Coyote works however, he'll be spreading the word to player gods any day now. Hopefully Poseidon wouldn't go as far as to try and kill Fish.

"Probably, you going anywhere?"

"Home," said Fish. "Where've you been, Writ?" he asked. "No one's seen you in a few weeks. You missed Ms. Floros's wedding."

He sniffed the air again. "Have you been out on the streets?" he asked, knowing that was where most players wound up. He'd been lucky in the housing department.

"Oh, here and there, you know, surviving." Writ shrugged and gobbled up the last of his bagel, "So the green girl got married huh?" Writ laughed, "That's funny, the last time I saw her I wouldn't have guessed she was engaged. She nearly broke my ribs. Don't think she likes me very much, especially now... You know." He motioned to himself.

There was some silence as they walked down the street.

"Hey Fish" Writ looked down on his fellow godling, "I know it's kinda weird, but you think I could crash at your place for a night, or at least borrow your shower? Doesn't really take a keen nose to see what I've been through."

Fish looked Writ up and down like he was considering it, and then clicked his tongue. "Gee, Writ, I dunno..."

And then he laughed. "Yeah. I've seen the kind of trash my roommates bring home. You're hardly the worst. And besides. I have bagels. They can't complain." He pointed down a side street. "This way. Come on."

"Thanks, I owe ya." Writ let out a breath, "Oh yeah, Merry Christmas by the way."

So Writ followed. "So how's life treating you?"
PostPosted: Fri Dec 26, 2008 6:32 pm

"Pretty good," said Fish. "Just kinda waiting for the next explosion, you know? Figure I might as well enjoy things while they're quiet, right?"

He pointed to a rusting ladder next to them. "We'll take the fire escape. The front door opens to someone's bedroom." He took the bag of bagels between his teeth and nimbly climbed the first set of rungs. From the platform above, he motioned for Writ to follow.

"I can wait for the next big bang, I've already been through Hell and back for this season." Writ sighed, "Tell you about it later." He figured that he could give Fish a little info for his hospitality.

"Man, that must be awkward." Writ started to climb the ladder, "What happens when you open the door and you catch the guy in the middle of something?"

"It's a girl's room," shrugged Fish, taking the bagels out of his mouth and sliding the window open. There was faded graffiti on the outside wall - a feathered serpent eating itself, and something that might have been an alien mothership. "When I first moved in, she was pretty dead-set on getting in my pants, but now she mostly leaves me alone.

He reached through the window to put the bagels on the floor inside, and then climbed through. "D'you think you'll fit?" he asked.

"I know that feeling." Writ sighed. The whole "Seduce girls in order to get free stuff" angle he did as a teen ratcheted up when he became an adult. It lead to a couple of interesting experiences. Neither of which gave him anything he needed, but things he didn't mind having.

"Hmm." Writ put his fingers in a picture frame shape and looked at the window, "Don't know till we try, eh?" He began to crawl through the window.

Thud.

The adult godling was halfway through the window, when his body refused to go any further.

Writ looked back, "That's not good." he held out a hand to Fish, "Little help?"

Fish laughed and gave the window frame a good shove. It slid up a few more inches. "You're gonna have to lift your leg higher than that," he said.

The heat inside the apartment was blasting. This room was some sort of combination kitchen/living room, with a pathetic-looking artificial Christmas tree on the coffee table, which was really an old door balanced on a few cinder blocks.

"H'lo?" Fish yelled into the apartment. There was no answer, which didn't mean no one was home. He left Writ at the window and did a quick search of the bedrooms. Everyone was out for the day.

"So, uh, this is where I live."

Writ fell into the room clumsily. After his ungraceful entrance, he picked himself and his dignity from the floor.

"Nice place." He said, dusting himself off, "Beats sleeping on a fire escape any day."

After circling the coffee table for a brief lookaround, Writ looked at Fish and asked, "Where's the bathroom?"
