The dark violent female walked through the jungle with a heavy heart. At the moment her body seemed equally as heavy, her feet feeling as if they were twice their normal weight. To say that she was weary was an understatment. The lioness was exhausted, hungry, and there were sores on the pads of her paws from her long journey.

At least it was cooler here, and with more shade... The sun didn't beat down on her and burn her. And she could hear water running, up ahead... She forced herself to walk faster, darting over fallen trees and other folliage, until she nearly collapsed in front of the stream. The quiet female sighed contently and practicly dunked her whole head in, feeling refreshed already.

Hippolyta started when a lioness broke from the brush down stream and collapsed into the water, her red eyes wide as she rose from her own crouch to drink. Ears perked, then layed back, then perked again. She wasn't quite sure what to make of this stranger. Unlike her mother, she wasn't immediately mistrustful or welcoming. Rather, she was nervous, wondering what Kiuma would do in this situation.

Was this stranger a spy? An invader? Did she mean harm to the hidden little pride she'd been born in? All these questions and more flooded the black female's mind and for a moment, she was frozen with indecision. Go forward and greet her? Go back and warn her mother? It was a terrible choice to make and she dithered for a long moment.

What -would- her mother do? Probably match right up to her and demand to know what she was doing just inside the Antianeira border, then whether she meant harm to the residents or if she was a friend. Most importantly, Hippolyta was certain that Kiuma wouldn't have run way, not like she half-wanted to do. That thought drew her up as she scowled, scolding herself. She was a future queen, she needed to start acting like one. That was most of her problem, wasn't it?

Steadying herself, she started to pace down the back of the river, all the while watching the new comer on the other side as she drank and refreshed herself.

"Who goes there?" She called out, letting her voice rumble in her chest for volume and unspoken threat. "Explain yourself!"

Kaa'lee vaugely heard a voice close to her, though it was distorted by the water she currently had her head dunked into. She stood quickly and blinked, water dripping from her cheeks and chin steadily. Her eyes blinked towards the dark female with suprise, but she did not imediately speak. The lioness had had no idea she had stumbled into someone else's territory...

The lioness, who was herself fairly muscular, stepped back slightly, not knowing who might be hiding in the trees for back up. Especially if these lands belonged to a pride. After an awkward moment of silence where Lee just blinked at her, she cleared her throat.

She spoke with a bit of a stutter, her voice rough and deep, for a female. Though it was clearly feminine, just... off, a bit. Misused.

"My... na... name is Kaa'lee... And... I, uh." She paused, blinking at her slowly. "I was... drinking. Am I not supposed to drink here?" Her eyes flickered towards the water, frowning slightly now. She had not meant to intrude.

Hippolyta was a little taken aback by the response from the other female, her dark ears pressing back against her head as she came to an awkward stop on the bank of the river.

"Oh, uh, no... its okay to drink here, its river after all." She managed to get out as she struggled to recover. She'd been expecting something more... forceful? in reply. Either to turn tail and run or to stand up and maybe shout back. To have her just blink at her and ask if she wasn't supposed to drink was really not something she'd been prepared for. "Its more that I need to know what you plan to do after you drink. You're on Antianeira lands, if you didn't know. There's a pride here and we don't like outsiders who cause trouble, so um... if you do, you'll be dealt harshly with."

Oh, so smooth. She could just bite herself, sure that her mother would have handled this a thousand times better than she was. She had no idea what she was supposed to say, or really even do... but it seemed right to question this stranger to find out what she wanted and why she was here.

Ah... So her suspicions have been true. This place did belong to a pride. She cursed herself for not checking for markers or any other signs of a pride... But she had been too weary to really think about it.

She nodded a little, her eyes focused at the other female's paws. Her eyes flickered up to her's, then back down, blinking slowly. There was an awkward silence for a moment, then she cleared her throat and continued to speak slowly, her voice occasionally hanging on words.

"I can... leave then. Once I'm done drinking. I was just rather th...thirsty-y. No... trouble. Only ti...tired." Her manner was odd. Not really timid or shy, more cautious and awkward. As if she hadn't spoken to many other people in her life, and was unsure how to go about it.

Hippy's bluff facade sort of deflated at the awkwardness of the other female, a feeling of concern for her pushing aside any real feelings of defensiveness over the pridelands. She did look tired, like she'd traveled a long way... what harm could she do here, really? Kiuma could handle anything that threatened them, or so her hero-worshiping daughter thought.

"I'm sorry I startled you like that. Please, drink as much as you want." Her ears lay back remorsefully as she let her face take on more pleasant lines, even attempting a tentative smile. "If you're friendly, there's really no reason for your time here to be other than pleasant. We're not savages, not really. Just sort of... protective of our own."

Though the river kept them apart, Hippolyta moved to a spot directly across from the purple lioness and sat down, her tail curling lady-like around her paws. "My name is Hippolyta, by the way. I'm sorry for not offering it before. I got a little... carried away. Really, you're welcome to stay here as long as you want, since you're female. We don't allow males inside the lands, but females are ok."

Lee watched the other female for a long moment, creating a lingering silence that was almost awkward. Meanwhile she just stared, blinking slowly while her tail occasionally twitched. But, whatever was going through Lee's mind during this time seemed to pass over, and she gave a slight nod before dipping her head down to drink more. The water was cool and refreshing.

A minute or two later she raised her head again, eyes scanning over Hippy in a curious manner.

"D-don't woorr-ry. I underst-stand." The larger lioness shifted a little, eyes now flickering back and forth from Hippy to the trees beside her. But there was nothing there of meaning... Lee was almost nervious now, her paws fidgeting.

"Why? No males?"

The black female felt the silence growing, expanding, gaining weight and meaning till she was nearly short breathed with it, feeling it press down on her from all sides. Still, it wasn't really a bad silence... it was more a silence filled with slow thought.

When the new female finally lowered her eyes and dropped her head to the water, Hippy let her breath out in a soft sigh, the tension flowing from her like the river before her paws. "Good." She said as she relaxed and settled back, letting her ease her thirst. With things settled, as it were, she found herself more and more curious about Lee. Where had she come from? What had brought her here, to this particular place? Was it really just chance?

She blinked a few times when the questions were asked, half out of surprise to hear the female speak again and half because of the actual questions. There was something about Kaa'lee that made her feel that she just didn't talk all that much, and silence was the more comfortable norm for her.

"Oh, um... well, that's sort of the way the pride was made to be. Mother decided that she wanted to create a place that was safe for females, away from the evils that males create. Of course, not all males are evil, you know... some are just misguided and not that bright... We're better off living without them, and its not really like they're needing for anything, but cubs, and you can find someone willing to give you those with no attachments easily enough..."

The babbling was starting, she could feel it. Like she had to fill the void of words that Kaa'lee left. Hippy stumbled to a stop and splayed her ears, looking sheepish.

Lee listened to her ramblings content enough. She didn't seem to mind it. It was how most people reacted anyway... They usually just left her alone completely, or ended up rambling at her.

Her head bobbed up and down slightly when she finished her explanation. It was understandable... A bit odd, but understandable. She'd met quite a few obnonxious men in her life. Though yes, some were not all bad. The idea of only being around females... for some reason... made her more content.

"Hmm..." She tilted her head a little and reguarded the other lioness, her pink eyes blinking slowly. "A-all females are... are welc-come here... then?"

Hippolyta nodded eagerly at the response, a smile spreading over her face at the encouragement of more questions.

"Oh yes! The whole purpose of our pride is to be a... sort of sanctuary. Its all about sisterhood and being safe and happy. Males bring about the most trouble, my mother said, so they're not allowed, but females are all sisters in the end. They can give companionship, friendship, and connection... so anyone who wants to stay, can." She nodded eagerly as she tried to impress the idea on Lee. "No one is turned away."

She was so passionate about the beliefs of her pride... the ideas and concepts that had been impressed on her since cubhood had found root in her fertile brain and flowered. She was her mother's daughter through and through, though there was still a small part of her that was uniquely herself.

Again, Lee regarded her curiously. The other girl seems so enthusiastic that it was hard not to share her ideas. It seemed like a good idea.. right? She frowned for a moment, remembering her recent meetings with a male. It'd ended badly...

"Then... C-can I st-tay, for a while?" She said it softly, head still tilted a bit to one side. "Nn... Your moth...ther... She is q-queen? I met her t-too?"
PostPosted: Mon Feb 23, 2009 9:10 pm

The dark female smiled as she rose onto her paws, nodding slowly as she listened.

"Of course you can!" She chuckled, flicking her tail behind her. "That's what I said, wasn't it? And as for my mother... Yeah, she's the queen and well, you'd have to meet her eventually anyway, right?" Glancing at the shoreline, she picked out what seemed like a shallower section, padding down to it with a bounce in her step. A smile curved over her features as she stood ankle deep in the water and waved Lee over.

"Come on! I'll show you the pride, ok? And then I'll take you to meet my mother." There was a feeling of accomplishment to the statement, to knowing that she was the one to bring a newcomer to the pride. Her mother would be pleased and really, that's all Hippolyta wanted from life at the moment.

Lee nodded, the reassurance making her feel a bit calmer. A place to stay for a while sounded nicer by the minute. These lands seemed very fertile and promising...

The larger lioness pushed herself to her feet, bulky muscles coiling and uncoiling. She really did look a bit awkward, and if she had a mane she would have passed completely as a male. But... even so, she obviously wasn't.

She merely nodded, slowly stepping towards the other female. She moved at a slow, leisurely pace, frequently stopping to glance around or stare at something. But, she was obviously attentive and curious, her attention on the princess before her. Lee couldn't help but shyly glance her way every so often, ears tilted back.

When she was sure the other female was following her, Hippolyta spun and bounced up the bank of the river, pausing only at the top to make sure Lee made it across.

"This way! Its not far, don't worry. I think you'll like everyone in the pride. I get along well with nearly all of them, so I'm sure you can too." She chuckled as she splayed her ears, her smile friendly and encouraging.

"You can stay as long as you want, I promise. I know everyone is going to be so happy to meet you." Turning again, she set off on a bouncy little walk, leading the way as she almost glowed with happiness. She could sense new things coming, old things changing... and she had a very good feeling about how things would end up.
