The holiday season was in full throttle from the time one snowy owl combusted leading to a new family member. Scout had been all to appeased to have a younger tyke that she could bestow the knowledge of manhood upon. The young boy in question, thus far, has proved to be quite the hurdle. He didn’t like spitting, he didn’t like throwing snowballs with a little bit of ice to make the crunch sound once it hit the side of the barn and most troubling of all, he used the word ‘pretty’ on a daily basis. Scout could only forgive him so much for being tiny, but pretty was not a word he was to use. So when the Hiccup waddled through the store in an old pair of flip flops, pointed to a poinsettia display and chirped ‘Pwetty', there was an issue to be had.
Scout watched in dismay as Sam toddled over to the display and patted the flowers with a bright grin. “Nonono, Sammy.” She muttered as she took arms within her hands and looked him straight in the eyes, bright gold meeting stern hazel. “We say, ‘that is cool’, not pretty. You gotta learn how to be tough like me.”
The end was accentuated with a definite thumb point to herself. Sam merely hung his head and looked at his bare toes, black claws digging into the foam material of the sandals upon his feet. The white feathers trailing down from his ankles ruffled slightly as they puffed up for warmth and once again his cares were erased. For today there was no Mason, the surfer or any other transparent beings, just him and his family picking out a new couch for the sitting room in this big store. Speaking of which, where was his family?
Both Scout and his father were nowhere in sight, Lucas having found a particular shade of green catching his eye somewhere in the store with Scout probably following thinking that Sam was right behind them. Well, he was not, a fact that quite unsettled him.
“Dad?” He called out as he set forth about the store.

Being Bella was babysitting again - that always seemed to result in someone wandering off - Adele found himself wandering around alone. but so long as he was still in the store, he shouldn't have a problem. Bella, Alice and Ismerauda were all checking out the furniture elsewhere in the store.
The kitten boy was currently investigating a pretty purple velvet seat. The back looked like a heart and it was smallish, made for two - a loveseat, he'd be told if he asked, but at the moment it was mentally dubbed a cute small couch. One with a funny plant over it. Huh, he'd seen one of those before - his Daddy had gotten a smooch from Miss Riulve under one!
His looking at the couch was interrupted as he heard the calls of another child nearby. Instinctively, he wandered over to investigate and saw a pretty white boy with fuzzy feets.
"Oh! Hallo there!" Adele greeted as he walked over to investigate Sam and his feets further.

The greeting had done a little more than startle Sam as he stepped back several fumbles before eventually falling backwards onto his rear. Flip flops flew off his feathered feet while wings flapped uselessly before Sam actually reached the floor. Bright golden eyes squeezed shut at the pain emanating from his tail feathers and reaching the tips of his ears…or was that a blush? He really couldn’t tell and focused on making the throbbing go away.
“Owowowowowow….” He muttered before wincing a glance upwards at the friendly greeter. Immediately he was in better spirits. He felt familiar and he was only haphazardly aware of his transparent surfer pointing downwards at the boy and nodding like he’d done something ‘radical’ or whatever. Sam smiled tentatively up at the enthused hiccup before him and gave a small wing quiver before speaking.
“Hi…there.” Sam shifted awkwardly, eyeing both ears and tails attached to the friendly soul and briefly contemplated what would happen should he bite one. “ ‘M Sammy…”

Adele looked worried a bit as he saw the other boy fall. Reaching down, he picked up Sam's flipflops and brought them over to him. "Here ya go."
The cat boy's soft black tail swished a bit as he spoke. "Nice to meet you Sammy. I'm 'Del. You okay?"

“Erm,” Sam mumbled as he concentrated on getting the correct clawed toes where they belonged, taking special care to not get the sensitive feathers stuck in the plastic straps. “Thank you.” He added with a larger smile.
“ ‘Del…” He tried, eyes shifting upwards as he thought about it. That was a nice name. Not like the computer but nicer, Sammy mused as he stood up, ruffling his feathers into their right place before holding out his hand like his Dad had taught him to do if he met new people. “I’m okay… It happens a lot. Scout says it’s ‘cause I don’t weigh enough.” He stated helpfully.

Adele grinned at Sammy. "Ah. I don't have that happen much but I think that's causa my tail." he explained, wiggling it a bit. "See?"
"I saw a pretty purple couch, wanna come see it?"

Again the tail caught the boy’s attention as he honed in on it like a field mouse. Black claws once again dug into the foam of the flip-flops once more. Why did it move like that? Sam looked backwards and down at his own feathered tail and sniffed in response before returning to the conversation at hand.
“Purple couch?” He reiterated, eyes still trained on Adele’s tail before he shook his head, dappled hair brushing his eyebrows in a somewhat wake up call. Sam nodded his head with a little more vigor than needed, forgetting completely about Luke and Scout as he reached out and gripped the other boy’s tail. “Lead the way?”

"Okies!" the kitten agreed, walking back to where he'd found the loveseat and the mistletoe. His stride was slower than usual, being as his tail was being sort of used like a leash, but that was okay. Unlike most kittens, he not only liked water, but enjoyed having his tail messed with. What a silly kitty.

“It’s very…” Sam took a moment to consider the loveseat, analyzing it from many angles while keeping a firm grip on the boy’s tail. “Purple.”
And with that he decided he liked it. Without notice the boy climbed upon the purple seat, patting the arm rest to his right and wiggling his taloned toes in the most contented of ways. Looking out Sam could spot many torsos of the bodies looming in the store, picking out sale prices and commenting on swatches. The noise was nearly unbearable so he concentrated on the new boy before him and held out his hand.
“ ‘Del! It’s comfy up here!”

Adele giggled and climbed up to sit next to his friend, his tail adjusting a bit so it could wrap around Sam's arm once they were seated together.
"Hehehe, yeah it's comfy." he agreed with a nod, "But it's got the funny kissy plant up there. Miss Riulve told me it's a rule at Mistmas that you gotta kiss if you're under one with another person. I dun see what grownups like so much about kissing anyway. Seems silly to me." he pointed up to the mistletoe overhead as he spoke.

Sam nestled into the open arm happily as he listened to the other boy explain a few things. He was in a lot of needing for explanations. Scout was good at it, but sometimes she neglected a few important details. Like when using the blender the lid should be on and held on while making smoothies and that toilet paper was not a good paper for drawing and when hung up like streamers Lucas would get mad. But something about the plant was oddly funny to Sam. Maybe it was the name.
“The kissy plant?” Sam contemplated the term before blushing a bit at the tips of his ears. “What’s special about a kissing plant?” Somewhere in the back of his mind a poor surfer did a face in palm.
Sam curled his toes in together, interlocking as he brought his knees up, knocking thighs with the other boy.

"Well, Daddy says it's called Missile-toe but that sounds odd and since you have to kiss people when you're under it, I call it the kissy plant." Adele explained with a nod. He liked knowing what he was talking about.
"Don't you know what kissing is?" he asked, cocking his head to the side. It wasn't really said in a mean way, just curious really. Adele had at least seen kissing before, but maybe Sammy's parents weren't like his.

Sam’s pale skin darkened even further at the question. He thought he knew but honestly that inkling was forgotten. It was what Lucas did to his and Scout’s forehead before bed. Right? But for some reason, he was rooted on spot and unable to answer. Yes he did know but what if he was wrong? That’d be embarrassing. The boy looked up quickly for Mason, transparent surfer sipping on a soda while prodding some hanging lights merely waved him off in a ‘you’re on your own gesture’ so he stayed quiet.

Adele smiled warmly. "S'okay if you don't know. Issy and I didn't either, till we saw our Daddy get kissed and our big sister Alice explained what it was." the boy offered in a friendly fashion. "Since we're under the mistletoe we could practice and figure it out, maybe? It is tradition and maybe you'll remember then?"

The proposition was no doubt a welcome one because he hated looking like a fool before friends and family… especially Scout. Then came the endless taunting and the pranks. He really didn’t want that. And it was the kissy plant after all. Whatever that meant he didn’t know. Still. If kissing is what Dad did before bed then isn’t that for grownups? Sam threw another pleading look towards his very dead helper only to receive a small gust of wind, which inadvertently pushed him further onto Adele’s lap.
“Ermokay.” He said quickly before snapping his eyes shut as if waiting for someone to pull out a crooked tail feather.
