Lochal was uncomfortable and irritable and HOT. Flicking his tail angrily, Lochal strode resolutely onwards, towards a goal only he could see, shimmering in the midday sun. He really had no direction, this young leopard, wandering from place to place. He honestly just wanted somewhere where he could stay for good and just nap. Nap a LOT. But leopards were a solitary lot and so far he had barely run in to any, and he was far too old to stay with his parents. He wanted a place to stay, a home, a family to call his own.
H was doomed to walk around the hot plains, his paws smarting as they hit the hot dirt, his back sore from the bugs biting him. Stumbling a little as he tripped over a slight dip in the flat plains, Lochal looked down at the incredulous appearance of a trickle of water.
Muttering under his breath, Lochal changed direction and followed the flow of the stream, in to a small rocky outcropping. A small pool of water had collected in a natural basin, and Lochal grinned wearily. He neglected to be wary of the rocks, and pitted stone around him, perfect places for another being to hide.
Nose in the water, Lochal slurped greedily, and purred deep in his throat, completely content for the moment.

A dark shadow came upon the grass, and a darker large figure emerged as the sun revealed its true nature. It stood on a high level of terrain, attention focused on the events taking place below him. He would get used to this--in fact, this was simply practice for what he would soon one day do--oversee his company...
A small frown made its way onto the face of the large wild dog as he soon realized that there was something a little bigger than himself below making quite a ruckus. A snarl had almost instinctively formed on his muzzle as he focused in on the origin of the disturbance, catching a brown feline snooping off stupidly amongst the midday grasses. It wasn't as large as the cats he had encountered so many times before, so perhaps this was a midget lion, or something else?
The approaching feline's stance seemed weakened--as if there was something bothering it, and this was confirmed when the wild dog observed it practically falling over itself as it continued its pitiful walk. While it was not like the canine to personally bring himself into a situation with a feline, as they were not worth his much valuable time, he felt like being a kind, generous king today...
With swift, quick leaps, the male made his way to where the feline had gone to, taking refuge behind the largest rock there, for it was the only one that could conceal him decently. He only observed the feline--it was a leopard, he identified--for just a few moments before getting bored, and then jumping on top of the rock he had been standing behind, making his presence known.
"Wearily traveling today, feline?" he asked smugly.

Slurping the water greedily, Lochal paid little attention to the newcomer, his thirst barely quenched though he drank for a long while. Water dripping from his maw, Lochal sat on his haunches and dragged his paw across his face and finally gave the other the time of the day.
"Oh. hello," Lochal looked around, looking for a quick escape route if things went south, "My travels have taken me far from home, yes." Lochal answered testily.
Looking around again and seeing no one coming to the newcomers aid, Lochal heaved a sigh of relief. Even if things got dicey, at least there was only one of them. Those blasted wolves spawned like. Like. Well, like blasted wolves! Drives a leopard mad, they do.

Another, more prominent frown had immediately crossed the wild dog's face when the feline was deaf and blind to his great presence. But all felines were ignorant baboons, after all, so such stupidity was expected, and, for the time being, excused.
"What barbaric behavior," the dark canine commented while observing the water splash everywhere from the leopard's disgusting maw. "This one's got no class."
He rolled his eyes and quickly put on a smug smile as he was spoken to, settling himself down on his haunches like his company. He watched the leopard's frightful glances around, and was quite amused of his apparent threatening first impression. And here he was, thinking he had been soft all these times in approaching the felines that for some reason, kept getting in the way of his travels!
"I see you're a bit scared and skittish without mommy here to be with you, hmm, feline?" He laughed, raising his head, and then added, "But worry not; I, Nkosi, am here to offer myself as your idol for the time being. Mustn't stick around a small cat for too long, though, or I'll lose my luster."
Nkosi smiled again, narrowing his eyes on the leopard. What a pitiful looking fellow; he'd make a good slave to some kingdom someday, the wild dog thought.

Relaxing quite a bit, Lochal listened to the canine, a smile playing on his maw. He had a good strong voice, and Lochal rather liked it- until he called him small. He was on the small side, and it was a sore front for poor Lochal.
"I merely wanted to find a great place for a nap," Lochal said sleepily, climbing up a number of rocks and lazily draping himself across one of them, "but all the good places are taken. Do you mind if I sleep here- for a day or two at least? I'm so very tired. I'd owe you a boon."
Heavy tail flicking amicably, Lochal yawned, his eyes half closed, but still intent on talking with the dark canine.
"I'm Lochal. I had two sisters but I'm at a loss as to where they've gotten to. Probably tearing out the throats of unsuspecting animals, they're quite bloodthirsty." This was said with equal amounts of loathing and awe, and Lochal gave himself away as a rather soft, foolhardy leopard. This was possibly not the best way to appear to a stranger with a grandeur appearance but Lochal's sights were set squarely on naptime.

"A nap?" Nkosi repeated in disbelief.
Felines really were as lazy as the rocks they sat upon and claimed as their thrones.
Nkosi eyed the plain leopard clumsily go through the rocks, finally choosing one to cover over like a carpet. He sighed, contesting the idea of further communicating with lower intellect--but these days were boring, now; perhaps there was a bit more entertainment to draw from the brown guy.
"This isn't my territory; I wouldn't fathom claiming it as my own, either, what with ragtags like you around... and the scenery I could do away with." Then he realized that he was curiously politely asked for residence, and considered, "I mistook you for another usual no-brain cat. I will reevaluate; perhaps you do recognize greatness when it falls upon you, hm? As for the 'boon', I find it a must for one to survive and provide for themselves, and I am not weak enough to accept the offer."
He walked towards the leopard and jumped up on the same rocks he had climbed with swiftness, and he was soon on a boulder right above the feline. Nkosi smiled down on the other, making sure he was watching, and listened to his story.
"You are the male of your family, yet your sisters override you in the masculine aspect?" Nkosi inquired, feeling a half pitiful, half amused chuckle come out. "If they hunt for that which they do not need, I understand your reluctance in joining them. Replenish yourself with what you need; nothing more, and nothing less, or you'll be unfit for survival."
Nkosi sighed with disappointment--at himself. He must have been so bored to continue interaction with this feline for so long--especially if he started revealing ideals. Then again, maybe this one could learn a thing or two, and spread wisdom; then in the future, not as many felines would be so dimwitted.
