Bishop bounced from foot to foot as she waited for her friend to arrive. Tonight was new years eve and Kaimi was staying over for a sleepover. it was The girl's first sleepover ever and it was with Kaimi which made it doubly special. Everything was going to be perfect and they were going to stay up all night and see fireworks and confetti on tv.

The amber eyed girl darted between the living room where Rook was finishing putting out lots of comfortable and pillows to lay on; and the kitchen where her mother was finishing up with a pie for dessert. Bishop herself had been a bit useless the whole day, although she and Andrea had pushes the couches back to make space for all the blankets of the living room floor.

Andrea herself had cleaned up any toys in the living room and then disappeared to her own room for some unknown reason.

Bishop was too excited to really worry or be curious about why. Instead she simply looked out the front window a lot hoping to spot her friend.

When the car pulled up in the drive Kaimi barely waited for it to stop before she burst out the door, shouting back at Naomi "Seeyalaterloveyoubye!" And tearing up to Bishop's door, ringing the bell impatiently. She had a Little Mermaid sleeping bag tucked under one arm and a duffel bag filled with Totally Impractical But Really Fun Stuff. Grinning fit to split her face open, Kaimi shifted from foot to foot excitedly.

Bishop paused mid trip to the kitchen as soon as she heard the doorbell go off the first time. her eyes grew wide and she pivoted of her left foot and darted for the door shouting " I'll get it" above the clamor of the bell continuously going off.

Unlocking the door she yanked it open taking little noticed as it bounced of the wall a little " Hi Kaimi I'm glad you're here I was getting bored. The pie's almost done and Rook's got whole bunches of blankets ready there's going to be pie later." There was really no way to contain the joy that was filling Bishop. Her siblings were nice and Joshua was an ok pretender but Kaimi was her best friend and having her aroudn made the world ten times better.

Moving out of the way she let the other girl in the house with a smile. " I have lots of stuff ready."

Brushing off the snow, she came into the house. "Ooh, pie!" Kaimi dropped her duffel and her sleeping bag on the floor carelessly and gave Bishop a hug. "I'm so glad to see you! What should we do? I brought stuff too." Mostly dress up stuff.

Bishop hugged back tightly for a moment before releasing her friend" Bring you're stuff to the living room " she gestured down the hallway to where a slight opening to the left was, as opposed to further down on the right where the kitchen was. " We're staying in there mostly except if Rook won't share the tv and then we have to play in my room."

Hearing his name Rook peered out from around the door frame and silently watched the girl called Kaimi. So she was the one Bishop kept talking about.

Bishop waved to her brother and began to head down the hallway a bounce in her step. " Once you decide where to sleep we can set stuff up and think of what to do first." For once Bishop didn't really have a plan.

Picking up her bags, she followed Bishop to the living room. "Rook?" She saw the boy and grinned at him. "I didn't know you had a brother!" In the living room, she set her stuff down and surveyed the room. "I think we should make a pillow-fort!" She said. "We can sleep in it too, and it can be our secret base!"

At the far end of the living room over near the Christmas tree, Rook smiled softly at Kaimi, she was clearly just as enthusiastic about things as Bishop was." Hello Kaimi," There was nervousness in his voice and he kept his distance. At least for now he wanted to watch the girl, to know if she was the type who would make him feel strange or not. " We have more pillows in the bedrooms" he offered. Still, he should be nice to her and help.

Bishop nodded " Yeah he came from a huge cabbage and he's really cool. He doesn't bite either. Is Mara still trying to bite you?" Bishop was in all honesty pretty thrilled with Rook he was fun to be around and nice and he'd never tried to hurt her before.

Her eyes lit up at the idea of a secret base, temporary of course becuase her mother wouldn't let her take over the living room forever but still. " Awesome, um does it matter which colour pillows go where? I don't think any of our pillowcases match."

"Hiya, Rook! Oh, look at your jewels! They're so cool! I came out of a cabbage too." Kaimi added in her usual breathless tumble of words. "I dont think the color of pillows matter, I mean they can just be different colored stones and stuff. Will your mom let us put tacks in the wall? Then we could hang sheets and stuff too." She was getting over-enthusiastic again. Luckily, Bishop never seemed to mind when her imagination ran away with her. Bishop was the only person Kaimi had met whose imagination not only kept up with her own, but could go even further. "Oh, Mara." She added as an afterthought. "She's better about the biting, actually. Naomi gives her a treat for every day that goes by that she doesn't hurt someone."

Rook smiled and reached out with a three fingered hand to rub gently at the crimson jewels embedded in his rubbery grey skin. they and them ornate metal surrounding them were a mystery to the boy.

Bishop nodded slowly " Well it's good that she's better and maybe we could make like a rainbow in order of the colour of the pillows." That would look the coolest for sure.

" If you are very careful you can put sheets up but only some of the older ones i have, I don't want even tack sized holes in the good stuff and Bishop I know you like them but no candles tonight if you're using sheets only flashlights." The last thing Carol needed was a housefire new years eve. Having finished with the pie she stood in the doorway carefully watching the three children.

"If we make them in rainbow order, then maybe every color can have a special power. Like the green ones will heal us if we get wounded. And the red ones can make fire or something." She grinned at Bishop, then at Carol whose presence she had only just noticed. "We'll be careful!" Kaimi chirped. "The pie smells soooo great!"

Carol smiled " Thanks , it needs a cool for now though and you can't have it until after dinner. Now you start gathering pillows and I'll be back in a minute with some tacks and sheets." Carol herself remembered building forts for one out of seat cushions from the couches when she was growing up. It had been fun if exhausting at times and she hoped the girl's would have as much fun.

Bishop nodded " Cool so like different parts of the secret base are useful for stuff in case we're stuck in it for a long time planning."

Rook laughed softly, this girl, this Kaimi was just like Bishop and he understood now why they got along. " I will go get my pillows" he offered and shuffled out of the room. Kaimi was still strange to him but she was like Bishop and Bishop he understood which put him at ease a bit.

Grinning, Kaimi grabbed her own pillow. It had a bright hawaiian floral pattern on the pillowcase. "Maybe this one can be.. uh.. I know! It'll grow fruit and stuff in case we get stuck in a seige. That way we wont get starved out by the bad guys." She helped gather up pillows and cushions, grand images of a humble living room transforming into a vast palace fit for two brave heroines such as themselves. "Your little brother is pretty cool." She added.

"Rook's awesome " Bishop agreed " He doesn't always like to play but sometimes he does and he's fun to swim with, he doesn't even need floatie things."

The palace was in a bit of disrepair, it needed fixing up before it would be habitable but Bishop could see the potential. A safe haven built on magical land would be the best place they could possibly live.

Turning to her left Bishop watched as a trusty supplier brought them more building materials to use.

Here are the sheets and tacks, be careful and call me if you need help putting a tack in higher up. I don't want anyone falling off the furniture trying to climb it" Carol said placing the items on the back of a couch.

As the supplier left Bishop looked to the older and wiser Kaimi " Why don't I work on our special brick wall and you on the regular walls and ceiling" she suggested motioning towards the sheets " I'll be sure to put the food supply one in the safest area."

Nodding, Kaimi began to take the cushions from the couch and then shook out one of the sheets. She looked around carefully. It was important to erect a ceiling in a way that would prevent wind and rain and being spied on. Attatching the curtain at an angle to the walls, the girls were suddenly thrown into shadow. "Hmmm... Oh!" Kaimi grinned and dashed over to her knapsack, pulling out a flashlight. She turned it on and stuck it inside a pirated orange pillowcase. "Look! Now we have a fire, too!" Grinning at her friend, Kaimi admired the sanctuary that was taking shape.

The warm roaring fire bolstered Bishop's spirits and She began to set up a wall carefully stacking bricks together so no wind or water or bugs could get in. The place had to be safe from more than just enemies, the outside world could be an enemy too sometimes.

" It's going to be the strongest best hideout ever, becuase we're the good guys." Bad guys always hard dark creepy looking places to live in as far the the Amber eyed girl was concerned.

Rook returned to the living room and paused momentarily to take in the change that had already happened. He frowned briefly before heading under the sheet carrying a pair of pillows and his bongo drum " I can play and warn you" he offered softly. Any extra chance to play was appreciated and the sound of the drumming would help sooth his slightly frazzled nerves.
