An orange hyena crouched in the Savannah grass, watching the water hole in front of her. She had her dark orange eyes set on a baby zebra and her mother. Well, all she really wanted was the baby zebra, the mother was too big for one hyena to take down.

Not to far away from the hyena a hare sat at the edge of the water hole, dipping her head to drink every so often. She was on alert for once, water holes were usually the place that she got attacked. It was usually by young lion’s who didn’t have the confidence to go after larger prey. For the moment she felt safe but who knew how long that would last.

Auri’samaki moved forwards slowly, downwind from the zebras she was hunting. She would wait until the right moment and then spring. She had to keep her jaw shut to muffle her laughter. There wasn’t anything remotely funny about the situation but still she found it amusing enough to giggle over it.

Glancing down at herself Kip realized that she was dirtier than usual, she had a feeling it was from the mud hole that Akko had pushed her into. With a sigh she looked into the water hole wondering if there was anything in there that would eat her. She didn’t see anything in the murky water and this was one of the shallower water holes in the area. If there were any monsters she figured they’d be in deeper holes.

Auri was starting to get bored watching the zebra, that was what made her a bad hunter. She had a very short attention span, she tended to get distracted by the littlest things. Like that hare over there, that was by the water’s edge. She debated killing that for a moment but then decided against it, the hare wouldn’t even be more than two bites and Auri would still be hungry afterwards. The baby zebra on the other hand would probably at least fill her up.

Once she finally decided the water hole was safe enough Kip hopped into the water, rolling around to get herself all wet. She didn’t particularly like the water but she didn’t like being dirty either, she wasn’t exactly sure which was worse. Probably being dirty since she was willing to go into the water to get clean. As she swam around near the shore her ears stayed perked up, listening for any approaching animals.

Alright, she was tired of waiting. It was time to kill her some zebra. Crouching she sprang, having gotten close enough to leap onto the baby zebra knocking it down. The sudden movement frightened the mother and Auri lowered her head using her strong jaws to crush the zebra’s windpipe. It didn’t take long for the zebra to die and Auri backed off the body dragging it out of the water by a leg and up onto the shore.

The sudden attack on the zebra sent Kip rushing out of the water and into the grass that surrounded the water hole, hiding from the threat. It took her a moment to realize that the threat wasn’t to her and she calmed down. Peeking out of the grasses she watched the hyena start ripping into the zebra’s body.

It didn’t take Auri long to dig in to her meal, eating everything that her jaws came into contact with including bones. She didn’t even realize she was being watched as she ate. After a couple minutes the hyena had managed to eat nearly all of the zebra, only a back leg and half the rump being left over. The zebra had been larger than she thought and she was full already. She hated to leave food to waste but if she over ate she’d regret it. Grabbing the skull with her jaws to chew on at home the hyena padded towards her home.

The hare watched the whole scenario play out and when the hyena left she had an idea. There was still a decent amount of that carcass left and she knew a lion who might want it. Turning she ran off as quick as she could, hoping that Akko was where she left her.

Fortunately for Kip Akko was still curled up under the tree that she fell asleep under earlier. Her tail was wrapped around her legs and every so often it would twitch as she dreamed.

Kip ran up to Akko pushing at her head until the lioness woke up. ”Hey, sleepyhead, I found lunch.” She darted off and realized that Akko wasn’t quite awake yet. With a sigh she ran back. ”Come on! Someone else is going to steal it if you don’t hurry up.”

The tri-coloured lioness sighed. ”Alright, alright I’m coming.” Shaking herself off she ran after Kip. Now that she thought about it her stomach was grumbling. A free meal sounded pretty nice.

It didn’t take them long to reach the water hole again and by some miracle the zebra caracass was still laying in the same place. Kip hopped over to it, stitting on her back legs and pointing at it with a paw. ”There’s not too much left but it’s a decent snack.”

Akko grinned at Kip, not even asking her how she found out about the kill. She knew the hare would say it was all good karma. Without another word she moved to the half eaten zebra carcass and lowered her head digging into the leg. It didn’t take her very long to finish off what was left of the zebra but like Kip said, it was only a decent snack. Sitting back on her haunches she licked her muzzle. ”Thanks Kip, that was a nice find.”

Kip just smiled and began to clean her ears. ”It was all good karma,”
