It was a rather foggy afternoon and Durion had just successfully stolen a wildebeest leg from an old, unsuspecting, blind lion.

Tiny drips of blood trailed down Durion's maw and his stomach growled, beckoning for food. But Durion didn't like eating just anywhere. Besides, he was still reasonably close to that old lion. He had to get farther away until he was comfortable that he wouldn't be followed.

Unfortunately, the large leg was a LARGE leg. It was cumbersome to carry and Durion was sort of waddling through the trees. It was hard for him to get his footing on the ground beneath him. It was also hard to see where he was going since the leg blocked out everything from the nose-down. Regardless, Durion trekked on.

Until he came to a steep hill.

Completely unaware that said hill was right in front of him, Durion stepped foward...

...On nothing.

With a sharp gasp, Durion began to tumble and roll down the hill, leg firmly clutched in his jaws. He rolled and rolled until he skidded to a halt on his chin.

"Sunuva--..." he cut off his curse at the smell of wild dog.

Great...His day was getting better and better.

Palia was just relaxing in the shade on a rather large cliff she had happened upon, even though it was a unusually foggy afternoon it was still rather hot out. She looked around into the fog, she didn't have that much visibility, which is why she took a moment to relax, 'If you can't see anything what's the point of moving around?' she thought to herself.

She suddenly turned up head up towards the cliff, even through the fog she could smell the blood off of a fresh kill, and it smelled good. It kept getting closer and closer, and as it neared Palia also was able to smell what she believed to be a lion! "Must be his kill then..." she said aloud, "I better get a move on before he finds-" she was cut off at the sound of something crashing down the side of the cliff.

Palia looked to her left and saw... a lion. On his stomach, and very much disoriented. She couldn't help herself, she started laughing like crazy, more than she had laughed in a long time. "Oh wow..." she said in between laughs, "So much for the graceful cat!" she ended with another big laugh.

Durion stared with narrowed eyes at the cream-colored paws that appeared in front of him. He sunk his teeth deeper into the flesh of the wildebeest leg, released it, and stood.

Durion eased a paw under his chin and tested it for wounds. He winced slightly at the sting his paw caused and lowered it. Yep, it was scraped, all right. Well, it would heal...

He shook the dust from his body, tiny particles flying from his mane. He stopped his shaking abruptly and turned to "smile" at the female wild dog in front of him.

"I'm glad I could be of amusement to you, miss." he said, voice dripping with sweet-sounding sarcasm. His face suddenly lit up with feigned enthusiasm. "I'm glad I finally met a hyena. I guess they really DO laugh like that."

Palia was practically on the floor laughing, until the lion said that final phrase. "Ummm.. excuse me handsome," she said, if he could be sarcastic why couldn't she? Palia was far from naive, she could tell he was playing with her. "But I am a wild dog. Not a hyena. Not at all." she said getting back to her feet.

"Well I really couldn't tell what you were they way you fell like that," she said with a way too sweet smile on her face, "I thought that it couldn't be a lion, cats are supposed to be graceful! I'm quite tempted to tell some of my friends this story, they're sure to get a kick out of it."

"Oh, not a hyena? I apologize deeply for my mistake." Durion said, bowing sloppily. But he wished he had taken back his rude, sarcastic words and gestures when he heard what the wild dog said next...

"...Tell your friends?" he parroted. He raised his head and met the wild dog's eyes, staring at her sternly. He raised an eyebrow. "Now, why would you go an' do a thing like that?" he asked innocently, a nervous smile creeping onto his face. He did NOT want that wild dog to tell anyone about his little "fall". It was incredibly embarrassing for the lion to be caught doing something as clumsy as that. He prided himself on being rugged and brash. Tripping and falling down like a complete idiot was not something he wanted to get spread around...Besides, he needed to maintain a level of secrecy because of his "profession".

"...Is there anything I can..." Durion began, eyes searching around briefly as he thought. "...Do to change your mind?" he offered.

Palia grinned, this guy was exactly the kind she liked to run into. Complete jerks! She would whip him into shape a bit! And nothing does that like humiliation. Of course, if he would apologize in some way, or do something to redeem himself she might change her mind.

Maybe.

"Anything you can do to change my mind...." she repeated. It was then when her stomach decided to speak for her. Figuring it must be some kind of sign, "Well, my stomach seems to be speaking for me. I'll take that wildebeest leg. Then we can call it even." she said with a grin. Not only did she get to see something hilarious, she would get a meal! It was a good day.

Now everyone knew Durion was excellent at seeing a person's core within minutes of speaking with that person. But whoever knew this only knew it because they had been a victim of Durion's evil little schemes. That wild dog was about to become yet another victim. But of course, she wouldn't know it until lonnnng after Durion was gone.

Durion smirked.

"I'll tell ya what, sweetheart," Durion began slowly, mulling over the wild dog's words. "If you can beat me in a race, this leg is all yours; entirely." he said, waving a broad paw over the wildebeest flesh in emphasis. "And if I win, it's mine, and you keep my little..."Accident" a secret." he said. "I'll even let you pick the finish line." He raised an eyebrow, giving off a look that was perhaps trying to show that he was underestimating the girl. With any luck, the girl would see that and get spurred on into the bet.

"What'dya say?"

'Wait a second, no one calls me sweet-' Palia started to think, but actually stopped halfway when she heard the words "race". Palia was a sucker for any challenge, especially a race, and she prided herself on her speed.

"A race? You seriously want to challenge me to a race?" she asked with one eyebrow raised. "Well alright then, guess I'll be walking away with a nice meal here for not a whole lot of effort. Now lets see what we could find..."

Palia turned around and looked into the fog, which had started to disappear, and saw a large tree a couple of yards into the distance. She turned back around excitedly and with a smile on her face, "We'll race to there! And I agree. If you win, you get the leg and I don't tell the secret to anyone. When I win, I get the leg, and quite a nice feast. So you ready or what? Lets get going!" Palia said, readying herself to rush right past this guy! She could already taste that leg.

Durion smirked and raised his chin, looking impressed.

"You're on, girl." he said decidedly. His eyes followed her until they landed on a tree. It was fat and full of leaves; quite pretty, actually. But even better than the beauty of it was how far, far...Far away it was...

Durion tried to hide a satisfied grin. He cleared his throat and walked next to the wild dog, making sure they were at an even standpoint; to be "fair", of course. So, he would say "go", the girl would bolt like lightning straight for the tree, Durion would collect his food and be off into the trees. It was the perfect plan. And once again, he would get what he wanted. Life was good...

"Ready...Set..." Durion began, eyes shifting to rest on the tree ahead. "...GO!"
PostPosted: Mon Dec 22, 2008 5:47 pm

Palia was ready. She was so ready. As soon as that big jerk said "Go!" she would be off in a flash. She was crouched down and ready to go when he started the countdown.

"Ready... Set... GO!"

And she was off like she was spring loaded. She was running faster than she had ever gone, simply because she was gonna enjoy humiliating this lion. "How's the view back there?! Get used to it, it's all you're gonna see!" she yelled behind her with a laugh. She couldn't even see the lion and she was almost halfway there!

She had this in the bag.

A cloud of dust was kicked up into Durion's face as the wild dog bolted for the tree in the distance. It was all he could do to stifle his choking and coughing from the dirt particles. It would do NO good if the girl heard him coughing all the way back at the start. But the dust settled quickly.

Durion choked back a laugh at the view of the female getting smaller and smaller as she ran. She was fast. If Durion had been serious about the challenge, there was no way he could've outrun her. But that didn't matter. 'cause he hadn't been serious. It was allll about the food...

Speaking of which...

Durion grabbed the leg hastily in his jaws and scampered off into the trees. The girl was fast. He didn't have much time. But he knew by the time she was at the tree, he would be pretty far away. Grinning, the lion waddled off as fast as he could, tasty leg in his jaws.

Ah, sweet victory...

She had made it! She flopped onto the ground, panting like crazy. Boy were her legs tired, but it was so worth it! She had beaten that no good lion, and tonight she would have a feast on that sweet leg. She sat there panting, looking into the fog, just waiting for that lion to show up so she could rub it in her face. Maybe she would even imitate him and fall over, just to embarrass him! That was a good idea. She sat up a little and waited for him to show up.

But he never did.

Palia waited a couple of minutes and then grew worried, there was no way anyone could be that slow. She started to get antsy so she ran back to where they had started. "He better be somewhere around here..." she said aloud.

When she got back however, he was no where to be found. It was then that she had realized what had happened. "He got me. He totally got me... THAT JERK TOTALLY TRICKED ME!" she howled into the sky.

Oh it was on. Now it was so on. "The next time I find that lion, he's not getting off that easy... he stole my dinner!" she growled.
