The room had been transformed over the course of an afternoon. It wasn't Scyeth's doing, really, though he'd put in the hours to change it. It had been Cane, surprisingly. Perhaps years of watching, and helping, his grandmother had helped. The teen couldn't sew or anything, but he could build, and he could cook. Of course, this party was a potluck, so he hadn't made everything.

He also hadn't invited anyone, really, though he'd mentioned it to Bronte. That had been left up to Scyeth, once they'd made a poster to stick up around the school. Instead, he'd spent his time making the room smell of cinnamon and cloves, cooking venison steaks, and various breads and mashed potatoes. There was a tree, yet to be decorated, but there were a few boxes of various objects, ornaments, pine cones, tinsel... A random assortment of traditions and religions.

This wasn't just a solstice party, it was also Scyeth's birthday. The blonde had mentioned it casually, and although they weren't close friends, Cane though the day of birth was important, and had made the other party planner a present. Although he had yet to give it to him.

The short, muscled teen was in his usual clothes, nothing special for the holidays. Flip-flops, faded, belted jeans, and a tight, black wife-beater. He was standing in the room, it's doors wide open as guests would start arriving any moment, placing a sign-up sheet on a small table they'd brought in.

It read: "SPORTS CLUB SIGN-UP"

Next to it, he placed an ink pen for signatures. Scyeth and he had been busy.

Cane frowned. Where was the blonde, anyway? He'd left to pick up some drinks from the cafeteria a half-hour beforehand.

It really wasn't hard to pick up drinks. Scyeth had just gotten horribly distracted. You see, as he was whipping down the halls on his skateboard, as is the blond's proper fashion, he happened to notice one of the doors in the science building was propped open. So, he went to investigate. There wasn't anything illegal, or even remotely interesting, it was just a classroom, but the youth had been side-tracked long enough to make himself late.

To his own party, nonetheless.

But as he came rolling back into his room, the youth found it decidedly empty, and frowned. "What the hell, man," he complained at Cane, stepping off the board and rolling her into a corner. He offered up the cans of soda and water bottles, shuffling towards the food Canaan had set up. "Where's everyone? I told people to come. We have a sign." The blond grunted and ran a hand through his hair once he set the drinks down. "How else are we gonna get anyone to play lacrosse with us?"

Cane's shoulders rolled smoothly in a shrug as he stepped forward to pick up a bottle, open it, and take a long swig of water. More than most of the boys, it seemed, he was completely comfortable in his own body. With one hand, he reached back to let down his growing hair, and frowned slightly at Scyeth, although he appeared unconcerned. He wasn't terribly social, unlike his blonde companion. "They will arrive when they arrive."

If not, that left plenty of food for Cane, since Scyeth had been initially concerned with the shorter boy's meat purchases. [The meat was JUST FINE].

"I guess this is the right place. I could hear your grousing all the way down the hall, Sparky."

A light knock echoed on the frame of the open door, the sound just two soft raps made by the back of Micajah's hand. He grinned at the pair before him, his chest suddenly taking on a great pain the moment he saw Cane was here, but he squelched it down as he thought about the task at hand and two boxes he held in either hand.

He took a few shaky steps into the room, his walking aided by two large crutches that poked underneath his thin shoulders and dug into his ribs, and for a moment he seemed to huff from the effort. Although he'd been given a new cast that let him walk a little easier it was still hard to get around and he was getting tired already.

"I'd ask if I was late or something, but it looks like I'm one of the first ones here if the two of you are partners in crime and set this up together. That seems just like you."

Micajah was talking to his fellow blond, his gaze only moving to Cane once before it quickly darted back over to the birthday boy.

Scyeth rolled his eyes and shook his head. Canaan didn't understand. He really wanted this lacrosse thing to work out. (And wouldn't Norman just be impressed, hmm?) "Yeah, whatever. Save your philosophy for the professors," he muttered, peering over Cane's shoulder at the questionable meat.

Well, until Micajah decided to poke some fun.

Scyeth flashed Micajah a wicked grin, not seeing much of his friend since their little explosion. "Good to see you, cripple," he purred, slinking over to the younger student. "You look pretty good, compared to the last time we met." He nodded, before he pointed to his eye. "Bugger won't heal, though." The youth nodded and slunk back over to Cane.

"You know I don't do this kind of s**t on my own, Mica. You, most of all. Besides, it's my birthday, of course I'm not doing it myself!"

Cane stepped smoothly around Scyeth, really, the strange boy moved a bit like a predatory animal, whereas Scyeth was more like an unruly stallion. "Micajah. Happy Solstice." He also flashed the boy a grin, eerily similar to Scyeth's [this was looking to be a dangerous partnership] and moved forward to take the boxes from the second blonde's hands, setting them on a table designated for that purpose. The boy shouldn't have to crutch AND carry boxes.

His bright eyes easily met the crippled boy, and he gestured to various seating. "and Happy Scyeth's birthday. You are well?"

"Eh, what can I say about your eye. Jerks don't need both of them in order to function, do they? And you're right, you're more the type to pawn something off onto someone else - mostly me because I can't tell you know. Sucks to be friends, eh?"

Micajah's cheeks flushed a little as he was called 'Mica', never having heard Scyeth use that shortened version of his name before, and it let the gap he felt between them because of the explosion slide shut rather easily. He kept the funny blush on his cheeks until Cane moved over and took the items from his hands, causing his cheeks to turn even redder, and he could only dumbly nod his head to the questions directed towards him.

"Happy Solstice and Scyeth Birthday to you too. I'm doing fine, finally up and moving around on my own."

His tone was softer, noticeably so, and he bit the tip of his tongue in frustration. This was not going to happen again.

"Syo, what have we got planned for today? Hopefully nothing that will kill me this time."

Scyeth gave Micajah a curious look, taking note the way the boy's voice softened when he spoke to the other student. Strange. He tipped his head to one side and brushed blond hair behind his ear before calling attention back to himself. "Ah, yes, jerks. You would be mighty lonely without me, Mica, no one to tell your lame jokes. No one to make fun of wretched runways with, either," he offered, hoping to Luna above Cane would not catch that reference (though he highly suspected the native had no knowledge of drama in TV).

He watched Canaan for a moment before shrugging, and motioning to their tree. "Decorate that thing. Eat food. I think Cane will be mad if you don't eat, though, if you're looking to stay alive, I would avoid his meat," Scyeth offered, snickering softly. "Oh, and we have lacrosse sign-ups! And celebrating me, of course."

Cane's tone was dark, although his eyes showed more than enough amusement as he responded to Scyeth's ribbing. "There is nothing wrong with my meat. It is more than enough for anyone. I will, indeed, be upset if you don't taste it, Micajah."

He did not, in fact, have any knowledge of television drama. Instead, he moved to a leather satchel in the corner of the room, and removed two objects wrapped simply in brown parchment paper, carrying them back over. One was held out to each boy.

For Scyeth, a carving. It hadn't taken Cane long, since he didn't have much to do while waiting to recieve his school badge. It was a small landscape, with a moon being the largest object in the whole thing. "For your Luna." was the note attached. Grandmother Cherokee had taught him the powers of the elements, and the moon, and any goddess who had the name of the moon was one to respect.

For Micajah, a medium-sized dream-catcher, matching the one the native wore around his neck. 'To protect your thoughts', was the attached note. That had taken Cane a little longer, if only because he'd smudged it.

The black-haired boy took another long swallow from his water bottle as he waited for them to open their gifts.

"Tell me about it. I'm sure I'd find ways to talk to someone though about the jokes, since they're not that bad and at least one other person in this world has to have a bad sense of humor."

He smirked and moved into the room more as he listened to Scyeth's chatter, enjoying the sound of the others voice. He'd been stuck in empty rooms for as long as he was stuck in that wheelchair, and since he was able to crutch around things seemed to be getting easier. When Cane started in about his meat and how Micajah needed to taste it, he could only tinge his cheeks more and bob his head, feeling it would be the nice and least offensive choice to do. Pissing off one to please another seemed to be the only coarse of action, and since he was sure Scyeth wasn't going to abandon him any time soon he could go with not getting Cane upset.

"I haven't much of anything lately anyway so food in general sounds pretty good. I was getting tired of hospital fare and cafeteria fare anyway. I hope you don't mind what I made, it's hard to do things when your fingers are kind of stiff, but the cookies should have come out okay anywa-"

Micajah was clearly taken aback as Cane handed something to him, clearly a present, and he stammered something for a moment before he let go of his crutches long enough to open the object. When he saw it was a dream catcher - very close to the one he'd admired on Cane's chest the first time they met, the color in his face turned almost a sickening shade of red and he had to figure a way out to calm himself down.

"Th..thank you. It's...beau-"

He was going to say more when he glanced over towards Scyeth and felt that maybe risking the demon-boy's wrath would be too much for his tired body to handle, so he slipped the item into his pocket and quickly jumped a subject. Move to something Scyeth would be more talkative about.

"So, lacrosse? Is...is that some kind of sport or something?"

Scyeth was clever enough to notice Cane's eyes as he spoke; it was becoming increasingly obvious that the native spoke with his body as much with his voice. It was an interesting choice, considering the stupidity of the human race as a whole. Though, Scyeth assumed it would probably be alright here; none of the other boys he'd met were what he'd call stupid. Except maybe Nat. That was something else entirely.

He was about to rebutt when Cane handed him a gift. Immensely pleased, Scyeth crooned softly and nodded to the other student, thanking him and forgetting the words all at once. He ripped opened the paper, blinking at the little treasure inside. He ran his fingers over the wood and glanced at the note, smiling softly to himself as he tucked it in his pocket. He noticed Mica's gift out of the corner of his eye and bristled, but said nothing. That was something to investigate later.

"Lacrosse? Of course it's a sport! Cane and I want to form teams, so we can have matches at school. You should play!"
PostPosted: Sun Dec 21, 2008 9:10 pm

Cane had heard enough to know his gifts were appreciated, and his smiles to both were warm as he finished his water bottle with a third swallow [the boy was a big water drinker], and picked up another. "Yes. Lacrosse. Native Americans invented the sport." His rare grin was bright, then disappeared. "You must play, Micajah. It is good for men." His nod was firm, as if there was no argument, and reached over to pull the sign up sheet to where Micajah could sign it, pressing the pen into his fingers.

He grinned again, and it was a dangerous one, although his eyes were laughing as they met Scyeth's. "You can be on my team." His low voice was smooth, unpreturbed.

Micajah backed up as Cane thrust the pen into his hands, his arm bending backwards as if he didn't want to take the paper and do anything stupid. Sports were very clearly not his thing, even if his two friends seemed really into them, and he hoped the very clearly obvious injuries he sported would prevent him from having to pick sides. It was almost like this Native before him was trying to pick a fight with Scyeth (though Mica may have been over thinking) and he gave a sheepish grin as he tried to think of an excuse.

"Do I have to sign up right now? I'd be really useless unless you don't mind having someone sitting on the sidelines. It'll be a while longer before my casts come off, and then I have to relearn to properly walk, so. . ."

He shifted to his good leg and moved one of his hands up to brush his hair from in front of his face, the impromptu braid he'd done not holding up so well to sudden movements. He hoped there would be an easy way out of this, but the feel of the pen in his hand let him know there probably would not be.

"Besides, I don't even know how to play. You'd have to teach me, either one of you, and that's time wasted if you really want to get a sport going . . ."

Weiyuan really didn't know what he was going to do today. It was either hardcore studying or hardcore sexual deviancy. Which was a problem because he felt like dressing in a way that screamed one extreme or the other. The teen spent a few hours passing around his room trying to figure it out before he put on a pair of wrinkled sweatpants and some gloves to go for a workout. No shirt today. He wanted to feel the cold.

Though, imagine his surprise and small bit of embarrassment to find the lobby with three other students. He glanced at the sign before taking an unamused stance. He didn't really recognize one of them, one of the new students he had heard of most likely. But he was very familiar with the blonde. "What are you up to?"

As easy at it would be to fight over Micajah, and who's team he should be on, he raised a pretty decent point. (Scyeth would also like to point he Mica was his friend first, thank you very much.) However, they really did need other kids to play. He sighed and gave Mica an exasperated look, though he couldn't really look that annoyed with he was amused. "N'aw, it's okay," he said, pushing his bangs out of his face. "Besides, we reckon most kids won't know how to play; I didn't even know how to play! We'll have a few practices and stuff before we actually have matches," he explained. "But I supposed being broken is a pretty legit excuse. You just better sign up when your leg is better." Scyeth paused before adding, "And if one of us is a man down, don't think we won't come draft you."

He was about to continue on when a very shirtless Weiyuan walked in. Scyeth blinked and tipped his head to one side, frowning at Weiyuan's posture (and general lack of shirt; honestly, someone needed to teach Weiyuan how to dress). "It's my birthday," he explained. "And it's the solstice. We're having a party." A bright smile. "And lacrosse sign-ups! Cane's so desperate he's trying to recruit cripples!" The infamous Cheshire grin.

"C'mon. You should play."
