How did you get interested in your favourite Harry Potter ship, whether it's canon or not? question I'm guessing that some of us have a few amusing stories to share about this topic, rofl so I decided to ask!

Shall I go first? For those of you that don't know from my submissions for the monthly fan fic contests, my fave ship are the puppies: Sirius/Remus! heart
I found out about them accidentally when I was looking for fics about Remus after OotP came out. I liked them right away since Remus with female OCs always made me jealous. I realised what great chemistry they had with being nearly opposites, and that if you consider the implications in the books (like the joint Xmas gift they give Harry) they ARE canon. razz
The pups replaced James/Lily as my fave ship, but Harry's parents are still my 2nd most beloved couple. whee I was invariably a LITTLE curious about how J/L got together after Book 1, like how I was about Molly/Arthur, but it wasn't until after OotP when we found out Lily used to detest James that I got VERY interested and intentionally sought out loads of fan fics pertaining to them in search of varying explanations about how they could've gotten together.
I love having these two pairings as my favourites because I can often find fics with BOTH couples in them! smile I've even written a few! xd

Hrmm.
I have to say, my favorite one is Tom/Hermione. (Voldemort...eh, no way. He's just ick.) Dramione is pretty good too.
It started with time travel fics....
I always really enjoyed reading AUs and Harry-goes-back-in-time stories, but then I discovered a chunk of Hermione-goes-back-in-time stories, and I was hooked (:

I read a Hermione-back-in-time one once that was Hermione/Remus. It was okay, but I he's better with Sirius. 3nodding
I like Draco/Hermione too. The very FIRST FAN FIC I EVER READ was that pairing, so it's special to me even if it's not my main ship. heart I don't think Draco has any chemistry with Pansy (I'm glad that he didn't marry her.), and i think that Hermione is too good for Ron *ducks behind settee from angry HG/RW shippers* so putting Draco and Hermione together works for me. It's completely non-canon, but the flavour of it appeals to me.
I'd probably like Draco/Ginny also if I ever tried it since I imagine the flavour to be similar. I don't hate Harry with Ginny, but I'd prefer Harry to be with Luna, so Ginny going to someone else is okay with me. wink

It was actually accidental. I just happened to read my first fanfiction story and it was full of slashy goodness between Harry and Draco and after I looked back to the books I could see the tensions and everything between them and see how plausible that a relationship between them could be. So it just really made sense and I have kept reading it ever since. :]

I agree with you Minerva. I really don't understand why Hermione loves Ron. He's rude and he has no tact at all. I also agree with you about Harry and Luna confused I was hoping they would get togethor, but I knew Harry was going to end up with Ginny. I never though that their relationship was as in-depth as JKR wrote it to be. I wonder what happened to Luna...

Well, I read the fan-fic Paradise Lost, and became a Hermione - Harry Shipper.
I love Remus - Sirius, too! I loved the Remus Samantha E wrote in her fanfic, which I have. It does get very explicit though (X rated in the later chapters). She called it
The Fairy Prophecy, a fanfic with near novel length chapters that starts off as a Mary Sue (and continues!) but so delightfully with the healing of Severus, then Sirius, then lots of 2, 3 and even 4 ways. Including the loveliest description of Dumbledore's loves (before canon pronounced him gay, he was bi here). Definitely not TOS. It was available in a yahoo group, but the author's wife made her dissolve the group. I WILL send it to anyone over 18 though!

I like Lily/James and Ron/Hermione. I see some don't like R/Hr. That is quite okay with me. I don't really like pairing that include Draco so it's good.
Ron/Hermione was the first ship I ever read a fanfic on. I've also supported them for 4 or 5 years now. I like Ron, personally. I actually love Ron a lot. I don't really know why I support them, I just know that I adore that ship if it is properly written.
Okay, James is my absolute favorite character and Lily is my 3rd favorite. I love the whole thing of how they hated each other. They are adorable. I don't know how I discovered them. All I know is that I did and I love it! xd

ARoseLight, I've never supported or opposed Harry/Hermione. I feel neutral about it. But wow, those other two sound very good! razz I'll PM you and ask you for links to them. Don't worry; I'm nineteen. xd
Suze, I know how much you love Ron/Hermione, so I never brought it up to you that I don't think Ron is good enough for her. I'm sorry; I've just never liked Ron at all. If it's any consolation, I love James and Lily! heart

I'm a canon characters type of girl. If the characters have to be fundementally out of character in that pairing, then I feel I can't support it.
That said, I am fully and completely a fan of Lily/James. I love reading all the different ways fanfiction authors find for making that ship sail, time and time again. smile
I do like properly written and well thought out ships, especially canon ones.
Although, as canon, I like Harry/Ginny, I will make an exception for Harry/Luna. I think that either Luna should have been given a bigger role, or Harry's choice of Ginny should have been better explained.
I suppose my slight obsession with the Marauder Era and all things canon contributed to my choices in ships.

I agree about Harry/Ginny, Matelia. I don't have a problem with it, but I think that we don't know Ginny nearly as well as Ron and Hermione, or even Luna, so when Harry starts to fancy her almost out of nowhere after getting over his relationship with Cho and Sirius' death...It's as if we don't know enough about her to determine if she's good enough for our hero or understand why Harry wants to be with her. I don't dislike Ginny, but I think that her character is underdeveloped, so more scenes with her in the books would have been appreciated.
After OotP Harry/Luna seemed to work for me. The way that Luna interprets the world I think is a good match for how Harry perceives things, and the way that she treats him is very different from everyone else. Ginny just treats him similar to how Ron and Hermione do, and...Well, I've heard that sometimes your spouse is your best friend, but somehow I think that it ought to be different. Then again, maybe Ginny DOES treat him differently and we just never see it. A real conversation between Harry and Ginny in book 5 or 6 would've been helpful. It's disappointing that Luna didn't wind up with any character that we got to know from the series. Honestly, who in Merlin's name is that Lorcan bloke she married?
Heehee, almost everyone seems to like James/Lily. I'm going to go make a thread in the fan fic subforum where we can all pos links to our fave James/Lily fics.

My favorite ships are all canon. I love Ron/Hermione, James/Lily and Harry/Ginny. My fave is Ron/Hermione. Before the third book came out, I liked Harry/Hermione, which now, I would kill myself if I liked them together. But when I read Prisoner of Azkaban, I liked Ron/Hermione. I know a lot of people like Ron/Hermione, and a lot don't. That's okay with me. I still will think that people are crazy for liking Dramione. I personally don't like Hermione. When I read Half-Blood Prince, I stopped liking her. Which is weird because Ron was the one that decided to date *gags* Lavender. When she said how Harry was so "fanciable", I stopped liking her. I don't like anyone else with Hermione besides Ron. I don't get as mad when Ron is with someone else. I started reading James/Lily this year. I read a fic where they were under the mistletoe. It was adorable! heart I liked Harry/Cho when I read Order of the Phoenix, but I liked Harry/Ginny when I read Half-Blood Prince. I think that any couple that ended up in the ending, I would've liked. I don't know why. When I read Deathly Hallows, I didn't put it down. When I went to sleep at night, I would dream of how Ron and Hermione would kiss. 4laugh I hadn't thought of the way that it happened. I was screaming in joy when I read it! I was like, "Yes! Yes!" My mom thought I was crazy. Back to Harry/Ginny. I took this Harry Potter quiz online with my cousin, that would determine your future in the Wizarding World. I got the one where you would marry Harry and live a happy life. I always put Ginny in my position instead. When I saw the Chamber of Secrets movie, I had a thought about Harry/Ginny. But I forgot about it. The only slash ship I actually liked, was femeslash, Ginny/Cho. I don't know how I got the idea, but I read like five fics and I liked it! It was accidental liking that ship. That's my opinion!

Well, I sorta whore Luna out as a ship. I mean honestly because she's so different and out there, her perceptions and insight could pair her with anyone.

Ginny I don't personally like her mainly because her relationship with Harry seemed like the devil spawn. By magically appearing over night.

Hermione, oh dear, I can't see her with Ron nore can I really see her with many other characters.
I like HermioneXDraco, HermioneXHarry simply because Ron was horrible! I ended up hating him in the book. I mean they said he was suppose to be loyal (He failed...) He was suppose to be kind (in some ways he was worse than Draco!) and no matter how much people supported him, he never gained any confidence in himself!
Most of the pairing I've run into have been Fanfiction based.. so yeah.

At first I mainly read stories having to do with the Marauders. Then a friend got me to read a story with a Harry/Draco pairing, after that I got hook on slash. I love Sirius/Remus. That is the best. Harry/Draco is a close second and now I like Sirius/Remus/Harry, Remus/Harry, and Sirius/Harry. I never read any female/female stories, so I have nothing to say about them.

I personally have to say that I don't like male/male relationships in Harry Potter... please don't go mad, I can't really explain why, but I just don't fancy that too much... I like Lily/Snape, somehow that's fascinating...^^ I like Rom/Hermione, too, they are cute although I admit she is a bit too good for Ron, still... I mean you can't chose who you fallin love with and I think he is very funny and loyal so he is a good companion for Hermione.
