So I just watched this earlier tonight and thought it was a pretty decent movie though I've never seen it performed live so I've got nothing to compare it to.
Wikipedia Article: Mamma Mia!
Short Synopsis:
It's about a 20 year-old girl, Sophie, who is about to be married to her fiancee, Sky. She's distraught because she's never known who her father was. Her single mother, Donna(played my Meryl Streep with amazed me), has raised Sophie her whole life and Sophie finds a journal her mother kept the summer she got pregnant. She finds out that three different men could be her father and she invites all three to her wedding to try and figure out which one is her father.
Review:
I honestly didn't have big expectations for this movie. I don't have anything against musicals, infact I like them, but this movie didn't look like it'd be great. I thought it's just be one of those watch it once to see it movies. It wasn't a great movie but I laughed and for those scenes I laughed at I would see it again. I enjoyed the songs and I enjoyed the actors actually. I did not recognize Meryl Streep until it said her name in the end. She acts so young and lively which was so different than any movies I've seen her in lately. (Devil Wears Prada she was so serious and I've been seeing commericals for another movie she's in called Doubt)
I don't know who I'd reccommend it to since some people are so picky about musicals and they seriously sing songs everyother scene, sometimes even a couple scenes in a row, but I'd say if you like musicals, then go see it. Atleast to laugh at the village women running around during "Dancing Queen" and the men dancing in "Lay All Your Love on Me"
I'd give it a 7/10.
It wasn't phenomenal but I'd definetely watch it again. (or atleast rewatch some of those dance numbers on youtube)
